avtolik··on Keep Android Open
Banks often use their app for a second factor auth. here.
avtolik··on Rcyl – a recycled plastic urban bike
My first bike bought with my first salaries (about 2-3 months) just turned 20 years old. It's a basic aluminum hardtail MTB. Still going strong - I do about 2-3k kms per year.
avtolik··on Immich v2.0.0 – First stable release
I haven't heard of this app before, so I looked around their site and docs. I was mildly interested in trying it out until I saw the requirements: "A system with at least 4GB of RAM and 2 CPU cores.", but recommended 6 GB of RAM. Why does an image storage solution needs so much RAM?
avtolik··on Nuclear: Desktop music player focused on streaming from free sources
If I have a choice between two apps that do the same thing and are roughly equal on features, I usually go with the non-Electron one. In this case I use the Wacup music player.
avtolik··on Bulgaria to join euro area on 1 January 2026
I am honestly surprised how many people here think this is a bad idea. I wonder why is that.
avtolik··on Bulgaria to join euro area on 1 January 2026
No, in your example this will be a reduction of the price.
avtolik··on Tesla seeks to guard crash data from public disclosure
Well, we don't have FSD in Europe, and in US, I guess the children don't walk to school.
avtolik··on Apple and Meta fined millions for breaching EU law
Because in a case of monopoly, the people can not vote with their wallet.
avtolik··on How much do you think it costs to make a pair of Nike shoes in Asia?
Of course. There are three NATO nations and Georgia on the Black Sea, and there is no war in their waters. The Black Sea is not very productive fish-wise, but this is another topic.
avtolik··on The CRPG Renaissance, Part 5: Fallout 2 and Baldur's Gate
I have replayed Fallout 2 like 20 times.

I checked your claim about the steam charts. Currently the 30-Day Avg for Fallout 2 is 159 and for Fallout 3 - 376 players. I wouldn't call this a huge win. F2 is much older and the graphics are not aging well.

avtolik··on Aluminum Batteries Outlive Lithium-Ion with a Pinch of Salt
I read last week that about 40% of the electric cars produced now are with LFP batteries.
avtolik··on Stripe Alternatives Comparator
It looks like a bunch of links. It will be more helpful if some comparison is provided. Otherwise I can just google for alternatives.
avtolik··on The tragedy of running an old Node project
Why do you think so? I have 10+ years old Java/Maven projects that build and run fine.
avtolik··on DOJ will push Google to sell off Chrome
> The trajectory for Firefox doesn’t look good at all (and it’s completely dependent on Google too).

Can you elaborate on this? I am using Firefox since it was released, and it is getting better, not worse.

avtolik··on Apple to Face First EU Fine Under Bloc's Digital Markets Act
Taxing monopolies at a higher rate. Not a bad idea actually.
avtolik··on DiyPresso: DIY Espresso Machine
This looks cool and hackable. I wonder though how much control over the pressure you can get with a vibratory pump.
avtolik··on When EV startups shut down, will their cars still work?
In Eastern Europe there are a few places that an emulated Tesla server software is being run. And you can buy a car, say from US, and they will patch (hack?) it to use their server. I don't know how good it is feature wise, but it is good enough that the cars drive around.

So to your point - you can probably use a car after the manufacturer is gone or stops supporting a vehicle. But this comes with a risk of trusting these not very legal enterprises.

avtolik··on I Quit Spotify
What problems? The articles says "profit margins are hitting new highs, up to thirty per cent."
avtolik··on Hundred Rabbits is a small collective exploring the failability of modern tech
while I get and mostly agree with your point, their boat is 40+ years. And may last 40 more if properly maintained.
avtolik··on Mobile Ad Blocker Will No Longer Stop YouTube's Ads
Does it show the same video adds as YouTube?
avtolik··on Spotify demonetizes all tracks under 1k streams
I really like Podcast Addict. Its price is like 10$ per year to hide a small ad on the bottom and to get a choice which screen is the first to show.
avtolik··on Sweden Is a NATO Member
If the people of Ukraine want to get in NATO for protection, how is this the West being arrogant?
avtolik··on Pains of building your own billing system
Huh? I live in EU and I pay for a lot of stuff with automated payments.
avtolik··on Pains of building your own billing system
Looks like this is regarding payment processors like banks, credit card companies, various payment fintechs like revolut, paypal, etc.
avtolik··on Git-cliff 2.0: a highly customizable changelog generator
Cool project, and the gif is awesome :)

I made something in this vein 2-3 years ago and automate it to post weekly changelogs for an open source game. (https://old.reddit.com/r/cataclysmdda/comments/1as6wli/chang...)

avtolik··on Why the EU needs more integrated electricity markets
> Don't blame the Germans, blame your local government for that. And then blame yourself if you voted them into office.

In my country we don't have energy generation from gas. At all. Why should I blame my government?

My friend, you came up with a lot of excuses for Germany. The one I can agree with is the war that Russia started. You country was the most dependent on russian gas. You pushed for new gas pipelines with Russia even at the last moments before the war.

avtolik··on Alexei Navalny has died
They didn't need the land of Ukraine, but they invaded.
avtolik··on Alexei Navalny has died
More like 450 million.
avtolik··on Why the EU needs more integrated electricity markets
> Germany no longer is dependent on Russian gas at this point and it never was very dependent on nuclear even before it put in motion the plan to get rid of it completely almost 15 years ago. People are whining about this a lot but it doesn't really matter.

Oh, but it does matter. With high gas prices at the start of the war and shutting down the nuclear - this made electricity price go up all around Germany. Because Germany was in need for electricity and was buying it abroad. So this decision in Germany made poorer people in other countries pay more.

avtolik··on Go 1.22
Can you give some examples how are you using go:embed and go:generate?
