>indexed by how much each of the 3-cones is activated

This will actually differ from person to person. If you look at a pure yellow wavelength light next to a red/green light mixed such that they create the exact same perceived yellow to you, it will look different to another person.

Aside from that, not really sure what a 3d view with the dimensions being r,g,b would actually offer

audeyisaacs··on Halt and Catch Fire: TV’s best drama you’ve probably never heard of (2021)
Rubicon is excellent. I was disappointed at the time it only got one season, but in retrospect it worked out okay because it's one season done very very well.
audeyisaacs··on Nokia's internal presentation after iPhone was launched (2007) [pdf]
That and also the N9 were great, wish they were not abandoned. The design language on the N9 was way ahead of its time too. I still haven't seen a time picker as good as the MeeGo time picker, and now a decade later my Samsung has similar App icons as the N9 had in 2011.
audeyisaacs··on Hearing and Doing
"line up and wait" is no less declarative than "position and hold", and has the advantage of not being confused with "hold short". Who is confusing "line up and wait" with "cleared for takeoff", and are they really any less likely to have been confused with "position and hold"?

audeyisaacs··on ‘Anti-hunger’ molecule forms after exercise, scientists discover
>The researchers behind the study found that people who have had success losing weight have a few things in common: They weigh themselves at least once a week. They restrict their calorie intake, stay away from high-fat foods, and watch their portion sizes. They also exercise regularly.

From your reference.

>If a subject is already severely overweight, adding exercise could compound the risks.

I can see how this would make sense, but for people who are living a sedentary lifestyle and are only moderately overweight, I find it hard to believe that exercise is a bad idea, even if it were to somewhat slow their weight loss progress (and this is without getting into "weight" loss vs. fat loss, which is what really matters)

audeyisaacs··on ‘Anti-hunger’ molecule forms after exercise, scientists discover
Exercise is important for general health and fitness too, though. Holding off on starting exercise seems foolish when it has so many benefits. Count calories, but don't wait to exercise.

But because it's redeemable on demand for Australian currency shouldn't that make them a PPF provider? eg: PayPal is a registered PPF provider https://www.brightlaw.com.au/regulatory-challenges-for-purch... https://www.apra.gov.au/sites/default/files/PayPal-auth-and-...

I wonder how they're doing this in AU, can't see any info about APRA registration as an ADI/ERS user...
audeyisaacs··on If someone asks if you have any questions, ask a question
My interviewee style is to ask questions during the interview. I feel like it makes it more conversational and pleasant.

I ask so many questions/clarifications during an interview that even if I have a big list going into it, by the time the interviewer asks if I have any questions, I pause, and then most of the time I'll respond something like: "I think we've covered everything I was curious about" and then do a quick recap of my understanding to clarify and uncover any bad assumptions.

My interview to next stage/offer rate is quite high, so I think my interviewee style is reasonably good.

audeyisaacs··on Australian police sting brings down paedophile forum on dark web
Completely different.

>Imagine if the DEA secretly busted a whole cartel, and turned into the largest producer

The police did not produce any material.

Trying to compare illegal drugs to child exploitation is absurd.

audeyisaacs··on Australian police sting brings down paedophile forum on dark web
In this case surely getting the producers is significantly outweighs being a dealer for a bit.

>The Argos commander, Insp Jon Rouse, said it had led to “significant rescues of children globally” and the arrest of “serious criminal child sex offenders”.

Musk's speaking is always a little awkward (in an endearing way), but did he seem significantly more nervous/emotionally affected than usual in the first part of this speech? It seemed that way to me, curious if anyone else interpreted it like that.

He calms down when he starts talking about risk and it being the anniversary of a launch.

edit: Good and fun presentation regardless!

edit2: Thoughts:

- Maybe he feels in over his head. The timing when he relaxed seemed to coincide with talking about a previous experience that might have felt overwhelming at the time but paid off.

- Maybe he typically takes beta blockers or something for speeches and take them until late this time (the talk did start late)

- Maybe it's just random.

Any spacex watchers have thoughts on cause?

edit3: Definitely not a diss. Love Elon/SpaceX/the vision.

audeyisaacs··on Experian Site Can Give Anyone Your Credit Freeze PIN
>They would probably pick something more secure than the government did

The government did NOT pick SSN's for ID. SSN cards used to have 'not to be used for identification purposes'. It was the private sector that appropriated SSN's as ID's. What the government failed in is adequately prohibiting and enforcing a prohibition of this type of use.

This happened to me with Instagram (which I stopped using after they killed the chronological feed). I'm almost certain I never gave my number to Instagram. I used it to confirm something with Facebook at some point apparently, but I don't recall giving it to them and I can't imagine myself consenting to phone notifications. At one point they sent me a message at 2am local time on a Sunday.

I still have a Galaxy Note 3 from either 2013 or 2014. It does OK, though has had a cracked screen that's only getting worse (I drop it pretty often). Battery life is the biggest issue, but it's still just within the OK range. Normal use and it will get down to 20% by the end of the day.

edit: Best of luck to all those involved. I'm hoping we haven't seen the last of Jeri and Rick.

Safest place to be in case of nuclear war (due to low number of nearby potential targets, opposite hemisphere of most targets, good wind patterns to avoid fallout from potential targets).

There's probably more playing into it. But being a relatively geographically far, politically stable country probably has a fair bit to do with it.

I'm not sure if NZ is a net food importer/exporter, but IIRC AU can produce enough food to cover AU population so I wouldn't be surprised if NZ was similar.

audeyisaacs··on Ask HN: Solo founders, what do you struggle with the most?
>(I also have the opposite problem when the customers actually pay, because they often batch many invoices together into one payment, which makes reconciliation surprisingly difficult. I wrote a little script in Python to make that easier - sort of along the lines of "Given this total, which of these invoices could potentially satisfy it?" - but it's still frustrating.)

Why not have accounts with client codes? Instruct clients to put their client codes in the narration(they won't always, but most will put something identifying themselves).

Instead of reconciling individual invoices, just sum the invoices of a particular client. If there's still an amount owing, it's for the most recent invoice(s).

audeyisaacs··on Leaked Snapchat emails: Anti-gun group told to pay or NRA ads may appear
I really don't see the issue here.

There's no reason that Snapchat should voluntarily censor ads on that story at their own financial loss.

audeyisaacs··on Pakistan airline admits taking extra passengers in aisle
All passengers are required to have a chair for safety reasons. The chairs absorb a lot of impact in the case of a crash, and obviously they also have seatbelts which are important for safety.

In my opinion, you are correct. Cloudflare is making it sound a little too clean.

audeyisaacs··on Google Recalls Staff to U.S. After Trump Immigration Order
I suspect existing visa/GC holders will be allowed back in quickly once Tillerson is confirmed(better than 90 days). Not that that would mitigate how phenomenally short sighted and stupid the EO was.
audeyisaacs··on Simple Wi-Fi Yagi (2014)
If it's like here in Australia, they do consider EIRP. So a directional antenna would increase the EIRP, but with just 100mw tx at the output, I doubt EIRP would be over the limit (4W for 2.4Ghz ISM in Australia).

Surely even the possibility of this happening being talked about in the press materially damages Nokia's business.
