atlantas··on YouTube suspends The Hill for playing clip of Trump denying election results
That makes sense and would explain why it's become more common.
atlantas··on YouTube suspends The Hill for playing clip of Trump denying election results
Confession: I only just realized over the past few years. I had always thought that authoritarians were a right phenomenon.

What's the deal with using guilt by association as a way to disparage or dismiss ideas? Seeing that a lot lately.

There was a viral video last week of the "Ghost of Kiev" that looked like real war footage. It ended up being from a 2013 video game!

atlantas··on U.S. firm Cogent cutting internet service to Russia
Easy to say from the comfort of your keyboard and within a democracy that responds to polling data and protest. In Russia you'll get thrown in jail for 15 years.

Also realize that statistically speaking you likely didn't dissent when we invaded Iraq. We were propagandized and consent was manufactured via the NYT and others. If your family was driven into poverty as a result, I don't believe you would have welcomed it whatsoever.

atlantas··on Tim Cook tells employees the return to offices will begin on April 11th
Yes, the polling changed and they follow the polls:

The message is backed by advice from Biden’s polling firm, Impact Research, which studied voter attitudes to Covid and found that most Americans are "worn out" by the restrictions and "have personally moved out of crisis mode."

In a Feb. 16 memo, the firm told Democrats to take "the win" on Covid, warning that by 49 percent to 24 percent, Americans are more concerned about it causing economic harm than infecting them or a family member, and that far more parents and teachers worry about learning loss than illness for their kids.

"The more we talk about the threat of COVID and onerously restrict people’s lives because of it, the more we turn them against us and show them we’re out of touch with their daily realities," Impact Research’s Molly Murphy and Brian Stryker wrote in the memo, which was viewed by NBC News. They warned that if Democrats continue to emphasize Covid precautions over learning to live in a world with the virus, "they risk paying dearly for it in November."

atlantas··on New York Times tech workers vote to certify union
This is precisely why it's opposed by system thinkers. They understand that it doesn't make sense in this particular system.
atlantas··on Treatment for Tinnitus with Stimulation of Auditory and Non-Auditory Nerves
Have you found what causes the bad days? I suffer from this too and haven't been able to figure out why it's worse some days than others. It seems random, but I wonder if there's a causal factor I'm just not noticing.
atlantas··on New York Times tech workers vote to certify union
What do others currently do to measure the results?
atlantas··on ICANN's rejection of Ukraine's request to sever Russia from the internet [pdf]
Uh, no. I'm making a pro civilian point. Also realize that there are many Russians who don't support the war and some are even bravely protesting publicly under the very real threat of imprisonment.

Putin is an evil authoritarian dictator who commits far worse atrocities than removing people's internet access. That should be obvious, but apparently has to be pointed out with a disclaimer before any remotely nuanced statement? I didn't realize this was Twitter!

atlantas··on RT turns to Peter Thiel's Rumble after Big Tech companies block the network
How is backing a permissive free speech focused video hosting site authoritarianism? Authoritarians lock down and control speech. You have it completely backwards.

Putin, for example, does not support anything remotely like Rumble. It's the opposite of what he supports.

atlantas··on ICANN's rejection of Ukraine's request to sever Russia from the internet [pdf]
Didn't the majority support the war in Iraq initially? Propaganda works. Consent was successfully manufactured.

That's not the fault of civilians. That goes even more so for those under authoritarian regimes. That's Russia. The people are under the thumb of a dictator and bathed in propaganda 24/7. And who the hell knows how many actually support him or do so out of fear.

How about North Korea? Should we punish their citizens too for not rising against their dictator? I think it's clear that we shouldn't.

atlantas··on ICANN's rejection of Ukraine's request to sever Russia from the internet [pdf]
Plus think about the precedent being set here. Punishing civilians for the actions of its government is absolutely insane and will backfire badly.

Should the global community have targeted all Americans for the actions of the Bush Presidency invading Iraq under false pretenses? Or how about Vietnam?

Realize that our next Iraq or Vietnam this new standard could be applied to us or any other country. Will bloodthirsty Twitter be cheering on the digital and economic destruction of civilians then? Cooler heads need to start prevailing.

atlantas··on What happened to Russias Air Force? U.S. officials, experts stumped
No, the assumption is that they are outgunned.
atlantas··on What happened to Russias Air Force? U.S. officials, experts stumped
Right, I'd love to hear a good explanation for why they're not attacking a 40-mile long convoy on a road. At least bomb the front of the convoy, wtf.

That Russia sent in such a rich sitting duck target and it's not being attacked suggests they have air superiority and we're getting bad information.

atlantas··on P. J. O'Rourke, 1947-2022
It's mostly old school moderate liberals who call themselves classical liberals. Because today's loudest self described liberals have abandoned core principles like free speech. So the moderate among us have to make this distinction.

Calling us conservative or right wing is a way to other us, to kick us out of the tribe. It's purification. See the endless torrent of hate being directed at Bill Maher lately for maintaining liberal values. I've seen it hundreds of times on Twitter, "I'm so done with him! He's not one of us."

atlantas··on Ice cream machine hackers sue McDonald's
Seconded. That is excellent piece of work; some of the best journalism I've seen in years.
atlantas··on Russia’s Possible Invasion of Ukraine
> Once air superiority is established, Russian ground forces would move forward

>> they didn't wait for air superiority

Are we sure they didn't? Otherwise how do you explain the 40 mile long convoy not being attacked by air?

atlantas··on Climate change is hitting the planet faster than scientists originally thought
> The report also references for the first time “historical and ongoing patterns of inequity such as colonialism”

Unfortunately these are not scientists. This just one example, but they are ideologues and activists first who wear science as a skin and bully scientists into submission. We saw how disastrous this was for Covid response with how science was treated as religion ("Believe Science"). The first thing we must do is eject the ideologues and re-establish the scientific method and rigor if we are to have any chance of actually solving climate change.

atlantas··on Namecheap: Russia Service Termination
It's scary how many organizations are just straight up outsourcing their decision making to Twitter.

atlantas··on Germany aims to get 100% of energy from renewable sources by 2035
Germany is Russia’s biggest gas customer. CNN has previously reported that Europe relies on Russia for around 35% of its natural gas, Germany over 50%. But with the threat of supply disruption following Russia’s attack on Ukraine, Germany along with other European countries has been looking to ramp up LNG imports.

atlantas··on Colorado to become first state to accept cryptocurrency for tax payments
You mean by unprecedented money printing? That's how they weakened the currency in real terms.

“In Colorado, we’ve been laying the groundwork to be a center of crypto and blockchain innovation for a number of years. We see it as a critical part of Colorado’s overall innovation ecosystem,” shared Polis.

This is what the US needs to embrace as a whole, otherwise we won't be competitive with the countries that do as the US dollar (petrodollar) loses its primacy on the global stage.

“In Colorado, we’ve been laying the groundwork to be a center of crypto and blockchain innovation for a number of years. We see it as a critical part of Colorado’s overall innovation ecosystem,” shared Polis.

If the governor is serious about this he will push to remove the tax, as some countries have. It'll be hard to be the center of crypto innovation while taxing transactions.

atlantas··on Residential building struck by a missile in southwestern Kyiv Saturday morning
I wouldn't say it's baseless. This is from the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service:

We got strong beliefs that all Ukrainian defenders of Zmiiniy Island may be alive... The SBGSU and the Armed Forces, like the whole of Ukraine, have received hope that all of Zmiiny's defenders are alive.
