ateevchopra··on Behind the Pixel: Google’s First Real Threat to Apple’s iPhone
The way I see Google assistant is that it's a combination of many apps (or maybe interface to many). Now I can have Google Assistant Icon on my homescreen and use it to do many things like:

* Set up an alarm

* See the Distance

* Search nearby places/restaurants/gas stations

* Play some song

* Look up facts

* Look up news

* See my agenda for the day

* Search for my personal photos and maybe much more....

I rarely use the voice input. The thing I liked about allo is that I can chat with it. Even when i'm in a crowded bus, I can use my assistant instead of saying "OK Google".

ateevchopra··on India blocks Colgate patents for spices
`How is patenting combination of spices going to increase innovation`

Sometimes its not about innovation. Many companies buy patents and make high priced drugs. These drugs can be made available to the poor for very less price, but patents like these block local makers from doing so.

ateevchopra··on Taylor Swift wins battle with Apple
I don't liked the title of this submission. It wasn't a battle. It was a request from a potential customer, which the company understood and worked upon.

ateevchopra··on The world's hardest CAPTCHA
This was just for demonstrating the idea. It isn't for any use. As I said, it was when I started programming.
ateevchopra··on The world's hardest CAPTCHA
Back in my college days, I made this captcha as a class project. This is based on the popular snake game. You catch the bug with snake, you pass. If anyone interested, folk and make its web version.

ateevchopra··on Ask HN: Google Maps vs. OSM in countries like India
If you open the link provided, you can see that OSM doesn't even have basic road names. So in any app, that would be a big drawback. thanks for your reply. Whats going on my mind is that I will use Google Maps for some time. Cause this will make easy for users. When we will have enough users, we'll make the switch. Porting all our data to OSM. What do you think about this ?
ateevchopra··on Programming Is a Dead End Job
I think "Coding" as a job can be best analogous to an old job called "Samurai".

A good samurai's aim is to be the best at skills. His all work is dedicated towards a "kingdom". Every samurai doesn't wants to become a king. They just want to server their king.

And the King's duty is to take care of its army and people. I think king's jobs is highly overrated. In real life its difficult to be a king. In the end its just a job with lots of responsibilities.

ateevchopra··on Bad Password Policies
I have one question. Even if we use hashing and random salting, then should we make some max-limit on the password. Its not related to the length i want to store, its the length that system will convert to a hash. Will very long passwords be hashed in equal time ?

Hello @zakn. Great site. I have one question. Can you please share from where are you getting the description of the hikes. For Example: http://hike.io/hikes/salkantay-trek

Are you manually typing out all the data or you hired someone to type all this out. I know you are using community to edit this , but who made contribution for the first time ?

ateevchopra··on Life’s Work: Salman Khan
All of them, even though they sit on top of empires, go deep and try to understand things themselves. They’re very hands-on. And they’re incredibly curious.

Well a great piece of advice for everyone. The more you are curious, the more you will love your job, the better you perform, more fulfilled life you live.

ateevchopra··on Learn Sanskrit Online
Because they say the knowledge of the whole universe is written in sanskrit in the vedas. Thousands of years the Indian sages researched about almost every topic and wrote this vedas. We would have been many years ahead if we could decode those teachings. Many lost, many still to be decoded. If people learn sanskrit, maybe someone will find its life purpose in this and do a big research on the old knowledge. Just saying. Anything is possible. knowledge is never in vain.
