ateevchopra··on Claude Code: connect to a local model when your quota runs out
One workaround that’s worked well for me is maintaining two Claude Code subscriptions instead of relying on just one.

When I hit the usage limit on the first account, I simply switch to the second and continue working. Since Claude stores progress locally rather than tying it to a specific account, the session picks up right where it left off. That makes it surprisingly seamless to keep momentum without waiting for limits to reset.

ateevchopra··on AWS EC2 General Price Cut
I'm wondering if this is to support small businesses/startups in the light of Covid19. I know they amazon and google are already giving covid19 discounts to companies but that won't cut it. I personally know so many startups who are looking at their huge server bills and won't be able to survive for long if that pricing continues. A failed startup is just one less customer for cloud companies. So could this new pricing be to to keep existing small/medium customers ? Just a thought. What do you guys are experiencing around ?
ateevchopra··on New 13-inch MacBook Pro
The great things:

The new keyboard is always welcome. The butterfly keyboard was a huge pain. An escape key is definitely something that most of us have been waiting for !

The bad: I don't get it why Apple is still sticking with a sub-standard 720p facetime camera when they can easily upgrade that. For this video-call covid situation, a nice camera would have been nice

ateevchopra··on Lit: A ridiculously small responsive CSS framework
Thanks for sharing this. 365 bytes gzipped is really amazing ! A lot of times for a simple page, just the basics like grids and all, I use custom trimmed down bootstrap. I would love to give this a try and some feedback on the experience !
ateevchopra··on India orders coronavirus tracing app for all workers
There are 2 different aspects of privacy in Contact Tracing technology. One is regarding device-to-device contact and another is device to cloud. In case of device to device, there's no knowledge if it shares your personal info to other phones.

If a person is found COVID positive, all the traced contacts will be under high-risk. In that case the details are sent to the cloud/governments to take apt precautions and to quarantine the individuals.

Even Apple/Google's contact tracing app send your personal data to the cloud and "works closely" with governments.

ateevchopra··on If a MacBook Pro runs hot or shows high kernel CPU, try charging it on the right
I've had this problem too for a while now with my MBP 2017. The left ports can't be used for charging at all. The moment I plug in the charger, the fans start running at full speed.

I 'm having issues even on one of the right side port. I can't use it for anything. If I plug in my monitor, It shows me "USB Accessories Disabled" error. If I plug in my HDD, it just doesn't work. I've tried resetting the SMC and PRAM. Anyone had similar experience ?

ateevchopra··on YouTube gets material design
Best part about it for me is the dark theme. No more plugins for making it work ! Kinda great for better web.

PS: Did anyone notice the blog's favicon looks a little pixelated.

ateevchopra··on The blockchain paradox: Why DLTs may do little to transform the economy
If miners chose to mine on a chain that no-one wants, they'll run into losses. Users will probably move to some other chain. As an example: Bitcoin users might wanna switch to Litecoin. And guess what miners will do then ?
ateevchopra··on Ask HN: What software do you use to take notes?
Dropbox Paper. Mainly because of non distracting UI and markdown support. Also copy paste keeps the format intact. That comes in handy to copy/paste code in notes.
ateevchopra··on Western Union admits to aiding wire fraud, to pay $586M
Bitcoin's whole system is transparent. You can always see all the transactions happening. So there is no way one can hide. I recommend you reading this article for details.

ateevchopra··on Western Union admits to aiding wire fraud, to pay $586M
More I read about such stuff, more the idea of a "decentralized" financial system with "no trusted party" makes sense. Fiat has lot's of problems in this globalization. It was never meant to be used globally. It's time we upgrade! It's time for bitcoin.
ateevchopra··on Ask HN: Is Google using Angular?
Yes of course Google uses Angular. Not just google, many other big companies like Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and Forbes also use Angular.

ateevchopra··on Step-by-step tutorial to build a modern JavaScript stack from scratch
Many people feel "JS frontend ecosystem is too complex". All of this is usually because of the horizontal complexity than the vertical horizontal complexity. There are just so many tools one should know. As nulagrithom said, all these do their job best ! And if you want to have a good project, you will be better with these tools :) And once you know what they do, they are pretty easy to work with.
ateevchopra··on Step-by-step tutorial to build a modern JavaScript stack from scratch
If you have worked in JS for some time, and have an idea what all these tools do, This comment is probably the best tl;dr of what you are going to learn ! Pretty balanced, Just to the point.

I havn't read the tutorial, but looks promising !. Will sure checkout this weekend :)

ateevchopra··on React.Js: Achieving 20ms server response time with Server Side Rendering
ubersoldat2k7, beacause it produced results, with minimum hassles.

Heres' a comment from reddit I would like to share

Cloudflare only caches about 30% of your requests for a major site. If you're small, they'll get everything, but every CDN has limits on how much of your data they keep on edge. As a free CDN, Cloudflare has pretty stringent limits. Also there's the issue of cache invalidation, which is a lot easier if the cache is something that you control totally yourself. Additionally, a local cache can help you save partial content, which is the next step in any 'make this site fast' strategy.

Hope it helps.

ateevchopra··on React.Js: Achieving 20ms server response time with Server Side Rendering
Hello ! Schmrz. I wrote about it a while ago. https://ateev.in/why-react-231af9e73d9a
ateevchopra··on React.Js: Achieving 20ms server response time with Server Side Rendering
Yes totally agree. Actually we are doing some experiments with that too. We chose redis for it's easier and simpler integration and highly programmably controls.
ateevchopra··on React.Js: Achieving 20ms server response time with Server Side Rendering
Sorry to disappoint you, but sometimes simple solutions solve big problems :)
ateevchopra··on React.Js: Achieving 20ms server response time with Server Side Rendering
> String concatenation/substitution is more expensive than DOM parsing?

Not 100% sure. Theoretically saying, if you have 100 components in your page, you'll be hitting the cache store 100 times for all components. That's not performant at all.

> If your whole content is cacheable, then a CDN will be far more useful and have way less than 20ms response time. 20ms is not fast. Selectively invalidating CDN content as new data is available is much more performant.

Yes. Thanks for the suggestion. We are experimenting with that :)

ateevchopra··on React.Js: Achieving 20ms server response time with Server Side Rendering
> To speed up your SSR, render components, not the _whole_ page.

That is totally wrong. Rendering components again and again is not performant at all. "Rendering components, storing them somewhere and finally when user requests, stitch them and give it to the user." Is that your solution ? That would be even more expensive than normal rendering.

> your users are _still_ going to see the 810ms latency the first time they access your service

That is not true too. Only one user will see the 810ms latency. All the users, when access this page, will get sub 20ms response time. Have you ever worked with servers/caching and know how they work ?

ateevchopra··on React.Js: Achieving 20ms server response time with Server Side Rendering
misterbowfinger, I Would love to see your solution. Can you make it sub 10ms ? That would help us a lot.

BTW have you ever worked with SSR and React ? 150ms is pretty standard time it takes to render a page with SSR. And as mentioned in the post, the 150ms is what we are getting. This is purely dependent on your project. For example, a simple "hello world" page might take a lot less than a full page with lots of components.

And 20ms is the total response time for the page. Redis takes just 2-3ms of it.

This looks great ! Will try it out and document the perf improvements.

ateevchopra··on Yarn – A new package manager for JavaScript
Just experienced the same. Loved it! npm was giving vague errors about dependency's dependency. Now it's so much clearer that which package needs to be updated. Also the speed of installation has reduced a lot !
