Not everybody has access to AI. More than that, every prompt uses insane amounts of natural resources. So why not share it.
aspect0545··on Google Books (or similar) all book scans – $200k bounty (2025)

aspect0545··on The Commodore Callback 8020 smart flip phone
I would use that phone if I had the ability to customise it to my needs. I don’t want meta apps nor Spotify preinstalled, but I would take the ability to install signal.
aspect0545··on Show HN: I built 80 mini-games using Fable before it was shut down
Congrats, it’s a nice collection. I’m not a big fan of the visuals though, it looks too much like any cheap AI / blockchain project. That‘s just me though.
aspect0545··on An automated A.I. WWE news channel on YouTube tries to pronounce "WWE"
Thank you. Apart from really not wanting to give Twitter any visits, it’s also a pain in the ass if you don’t have the app installed and use proper privacy settings.

No problem with xcancel or nitter, I wish more people would share the links to these as well

aspect0545··on OpenTrafficMap
Ja ja, maybe not as gut as the Scandinavians, but still better than many US Americans.
aspect0545··on Show HN: Mediator.ai – Using Nash bargaining and LLMs to systematize fairness
Looks interesting. But where’s the privacy policy or at least information what happens with all the sensitive stuff you enter there. Because let’s be honest, a lot of the stuff that is awkward to talk about is somewhat private.
aspect0545··on US orders diplomats to fight data sovereignty initiatives
> Lately the EU Commission came up with a plan to create an inventory of every single valuable items owned by every single EU citizen: from Magic The Gathering and Pokemon cards to jewelry/heirloom, paintings, gold and silver coins/bars, cryptocurrencies coins, watches, cars, boats, etc. Anything with some value: would go in the inventory. >The European Parliament asked the question: "Can you guarantee us this will never ever be used as a basis to confiscate these items?" to which the European Commission answered: "No, we cannot guarantee that".

Excuse me for not taking this at face value but this sounds like disinformation. Where did you get that from?

aspect0545··on Kimi Claw
I wouldn’t want either US or Chinese corporations to have access to my sensitive data. But if I had to choose, which I luckily don’t, I’d choose the US. That stuff I guess.
aspect0545··on Show HN: Customizable OSINT dashboard to monitor the situation
Encourage Mastodon use. There’s nothing that stops Bluesky from ending up just like Twitter.
aspect0545··on Show HN: DevicePrint – device fingerprinting without cookies
Works great, my device visited over 100 times already

edit: not only that, under past visits I can now see the ip address of other visitors, together with their rough location and browser setup. You may want to remove the "gdpr compliant" from the website :)

aspect0545··on Iran's internet shutdown is chillingly precise and may last some time
Starlink is Musk. That‘s not reliable
aspect0545··on Kidnapped by Deutsche Bahn
Of course there’s exaggeration. Nobody really believes this person was kidnapped by the German train company.

People do get kicked off trains, usually it’s the entire train that is being emptied. Happened to me in NRW. Happened to me in Brandenburg. When there’s a problem with the train, then sometimes it has to be evacuated.

He would have not been entitled to a cab ride by the way, he was travelling with Deutschlandticket. Your entire comment is not only pedantic, it’s also completely wrong lol.

aspect0545··on Fahrplan – 39C3
I’ve been thinking about going for years. What specifically was life changing for you?
aspect0545··on 'Off switch' discovery could help clear our brains of a common parasite
What if it’s a small apartment, but the life is a significant albeit marginal improvement over life in a shelter? Would it make a difference if it were a shelter where animals are killed after a certain period without being adopted?

Please note that I’m on purpose phrasing this to be a bit contrarian. Not trying to rattle any cages (no pun intended), just found myself initially agreeing with you and then not being sure anymore.

What’s up with that user name
aspect0545··on Launch HN: Tweeks (YC W25) – Browser extension to deshittify the web
Chrome only, that’s too bad
aspect0545··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (October 2025)
Looks great, I’ll check it out!
aspect0545··on Signal Protocol and Post-Quantum Ratchets
This is different though. PP is saying that you require a phone number to sign up, and phone numbers are being used to match your account to your user name.
aspect0545··on There is a huge pool of exceptional junior engineers
There’s a big difference between somebody not being your friend and somebody being your enemy. I’ve had a similar experience with a sub par employee, who at some point admitted that he wasn’t doing his best at work because he was "only there to exchange his time for money, not make any meaningful contributions".

That guy was absolutely immersed in internet culture, making him less self-aware and very unpleasant to work with.

aspect0545··on Tomorrow's emoji today: Unicode 17.0
I think it makes sense that in a country where the majority is not white the yellow emoji is picked to represent the majority.
aspect0545··on Show HN: Hacker News em dash user leaderboard pre-ChatGPT
In German en dashes are more common than em dashes. I’ve been using them regularly for at least 20 years, both in German and English texts. I never liked it when people just threw in ordinary hyphen instead of an en dash, but few people note the difference.
aspect0545··on WebLibre: The Privacy-Focused Browser
It’s a German company behind it, probably a one man show: https://docs.weblibre.eu/Legal/Imprint
aspect0545··on Open models by OpenAI
But was it reasoning or did it solve this because it was parting it‘s training data?
aspect0545··on “Reading Rainbow” was created to combat summer reading slumps
How is reading different from doing. This is about encouraging children to read, it’s a very active process. Maybe I‘m missing something?
aspect0545··on “There are people who can see and others who cannot even look”
Super interesting. I recently learned that a lot of foreigners moving to Germany find that Germans are staring. It’s called the German stare. I wonder if staring is a Germanic thing.

aspect0545··on Wow@Home – Network of Amateur Radio Telescopes
That would also fit because the image on the top is very clearly AI generated. I find that quite off-putting to be honest.
aspect0545··on Magically remove ads from any recipe website
No, it‘s about preppear. A very different service.
aspect0545··on The death of the middle-class restaurant
What are some of your favourite places to eat out in Berlin? I wouldn’t call the Döner places a kebab restaurant by the way, but maybe that’s being picky
