arxpoetica··on SvelteKit Is in Public Beta
100% the opposite is true. Svelte stores are extremely elegant and not belabored with boilerplate like Redux.
arxpoetica··on Chick Corea has died
This is a great sadness to me. I'm a jazz pianist (not a hobby, but not a profession), and so much of the feel/sound that I learned, I learned from him. He was—without exception—the GOAT. I was just listening yesterday to some improvisation courses he taught on YouTube in 2016. I'm so glad he left us so much. But his voice will be missed.

There's no one like him.

arxpoetica··on Experience synesthesia: Google tool lets you 'hear' colors and shapes
What you describe echoes with my experience.

I've had conversations with family members that confirmed I was somewhat unique in experiencing this way too. Most didn't relate, though one brother is waaaay more synesthetic than I am.

arxpoetica··on Experience synesthesia: Google tool lets you 'hear' colors and shapes
Not to be a bit evasive, but...both?

Part of it is very abstract and arbitrarily associative. As well, it can certainly morph. I wouldn't say there's any specific rhyme or reason to it.

If you ever watched the movie Soul—that spoke to me pretty well, even though they didn't focus specifically on synesthesia, per se.

arxpoetica··on Experience synesthesia: Google tool lets you 'hear' colors and shapes
As a musician and artist who experiences mild synesthesia, this is throwing me off. I don't associate the colors illustrated in the example with the sounds I'm hearing.

I don't have anything other than personal experience to back this up, but I would be surprised if it's not a completely subjective experience—one person's synesthesia probably doesn't match another person's, per se.

Just curious for any musician's out there, when you're playing in the key of D dorian, for example, what colors go through your mind? F major? E minor?

All these have specific colors that tend to dominate my imagination.

arxpoetica··on API-diff: a tool for side-by-side evaluations of JSON APIs
Maybe a naive question, but how is this any different than diff tools found in Git / SVN / etc.?
arxpoetica··on FTC Sues Facebook for Illegal Monopolization
Agree. VR is not more than a novelty and gaming tool yet. Gaming is a huge potential, but I think the real use cases haven't been proven out yet.

I'm still a believer, but I suspect there are other non-VR technologies that either need to catch up or just figure out how to dovetail for VR to be anything other than a novelty.

arxpoetica··on What's new in Svelte (Dec 2020)
SvelteKit will not require TS. You'll be able to do with or without.
arxpoetica··on Node.js 15.0
No. Use pnpm (and Volta js) instead.
arxpoetica··on I Met the Reclusive Georgia O’Keeffe
She is one of my favorites.
arxpoetica··on Vue.js Creator Evan You Interview
Other way around. Vue adopted Ractive's SFC approach. (Ractive was Svelte's predecessor.)

arxpoetica··on Habitica – A gamified habit-building and productivity app
Fun story. I remember meeting Tyler Renelle way back at a JS meetup when he first started developing it. Not 100% sure, but I think he originally built it off a framework called SocketStream[1], though I don't remember exactly (I was a contributor to SocketStream at the time). It might have actually been another of the similar frameworks[2] at the time that relied on sockets, realtime-app predecessors to React/Angular/Vue/Svelte.

I used Habitica early on, and it was fairly fun, but I could never (irony much) keep the habit of using it.

Update: looks like it was Derby: https://github.com/HabitRPG/habitica/search?o=desc&q=derby&s...

[1] https://github.com/socketstream/socketstream [2] The competitors were Derby https://derbyjs.com/ and...can't remember the other one off the top of my head.

arxpoetica··on The database I wish I had
There's some cross over (not 100%) with an idea I've felt is needed in the data marketplace. See links:

arxpoetica··on Show HN: 3D first person game rendered in CSS/HTML
I agree, it could be brighter. SUPER DARK.
arxpoetica··on An Update on MDN Web Docs
Please. NO.
arxpoetica··on A picture of change for a world in constant motion
I love this visual technique. I appreciate that the New York Times is slowly moving the needle on digital storytelling with their different incarnations of "scrollytelling." This is a technique I feel like I haven't seen yet.
arxpoetica··on Invite Rick to Rick Roll Your Zoom Calls
Can someone create this for unwanted phone calls? "Answer" "Straight to Voice Mail" "Rick Roll"
arxpoetica··on Prisma 2.0 – Type-safe and auto-generated database client
Agree to disagree. For certain kinds of programmers who tend to think more analytically, databases are easy to work with.

For those of us who tend to think more visually or kinesthetically, I appreciate tools that are trying to solve problems at a less-lingual/code level.

arxpoetica··on Svelte Is Unappealing
Sorry tangent, but been working w/ Svelte a long time. Can you tell me about this:

> especially when you try out the new HMR stuff

I tried setting up HMR w/ Sapper but couldn't figure it out. Using Rollup. Are you referring to WebPack? Happy to take offline. Ping me on Discord if you want: @arxpoetica

arxpoetica··on Svelte Is Unappealing
Ryan's arguments are actually what so many of us love about Svelte. To each one's own.
arxpoetica··on Please consider not adopting Google WebComponents

arxpoetica··on Asm-dom, a minimal WebAssembly virtual DOM to build C++ SPA
Why does everyone love JSX? If they'd kept the DOM separate from the code, they might have had me—
arxpoetica··on This Artwork Does Not Exist
Actually—my mind just took a trippy turn on this—

At an abstract level, this stuff is still derived from works done by humans.

I can't process this (at the meta level), ha ha.

Basically, the universal question, but where does art begin, and where does it end. This is in essence, taking something already abstract (I'm assuming) created at the hands of expressionists, and turning it back into something—random—

AGGGGGHHHH I can't process it!!!! ha ha

arxpoetica··on This Artwork Does Not Exist
By and large, the artwork generated herein totally speaks to me.

This is almost beyond the uncanny valley for me.

arxpoetica··on A group of ex-NSA and Amazon engineers are building a ‘GitHub for data’
It appears they've got an open source licence on Dolt, which is a CLI tool to be used in tandem with DoltHub?
arxpoetica··on A group of ex-NSA and Amazon engineers are building a ‘GitHub for data’
I think I meant more in terms of use cases. So it sounds like one of your use cases is logging scientific results...?
arxpoetica··on A group of ex-NSA and Amazon engineers are building a ‘GitHub for data’
Assertion: GitHub for data can't exist without a Git for data.

Naive take?

arxpoetica··on A group of ex-NSA and Amazon engineers are building a ‘GitHub for data’
What would you use a "git for data" for?
