I live in the greater Santa Fe, New Mexico area, and O'Keefe is one of Santa Fe's great prides. If you're ever in the area, the Georgia O'Keefe Museum [0] is well worth a stop. Ghost Ranch [1], famously her home and studio, has some of the most beautiful vistas in the great American southwest.

Other jewels of Santa Fe include the infamous Meow Wolf psychedelic art exhibit [2]. I would say George R.R. Martin, too, but the city recently shut down his attempt to build a medieval-style castle on his property [3].

New Mexico is possibly the most underrated state in the union, when it comes to the beauty of the landscape.

Every year growing up, my parents made a road trip with me in the backseat, from the South Bay Area to Albuquerque.

Back then, I couldn’t be bothered to look out the window. I was like “cool ok that’s normal, next”. It’s a long drive!

It’s a testament to how kids can get used to anything. :) These days my face would be glued to the window... I don’t know if there’s any place on earth remotely like that. Just breathtaking.

New Mexico is beautiful, and the only place I've felt "at peace" in the US.

Agreed, and brings back fond memories. Elephant Butte and Ruidoso were some of my most memorable camping trips as a young adult. The first time I drove solo for more than an hour was out of Alamogordo to visit a friend in Albuquerque; I never did forget how dramatic the scene transitioned entering the Valley of Fires close to sunset. A few years ago while accompanying my kid sibling to Palo Alto for freshman preview, we detour road tripped into Carlsbad to hike the caverns. The experience flying into SFO a few days later still serves as a reminder of how much I dislike city life.

I'd be interested to know if more people were visiting it since "Breaking Bad" aired.

I've lived in the mountains near Santa Fe for 20 years and every day I'm grateful that I'm here. Although with my head down in a computer it's sometimes easy to take this place for granted.

Oh neat. I'm new to Santa Fe. Well, I've been here since January... but haven't seen much of the area due to lockdowns + newborn.

Is Warren Zevon right? Was there something splendid about isolation? O'Keeffe probably had her reasons, and she didn't owe us an definitive explanation. Of course, being in the sky above clouds [0] can be enticing, especially given current events...
