artofcode··on How do I learn robotics in 2025?
Depending on your goals, micromouse could be a good starting point as well. Look up to veritasium video if you want to get inspired.
artofcode··on Russian troops use Starlink licensed and imported from Dubai
Let's stay rational please
artofcode··on Auto execs are coming clean: EVs aren't working
I've also seen a huge increase in anti EV & renewable energy propaganda.

A look at the posts from a right-wing Facebook user I know are recently all about it:

  * Anti windmill posts
  * Human induced global warming not being real
  * EV charging stations powered by diesel-powered generators
  * EV bus catching fire
  * 'meme post' about an EV simply displacing the greenhouse gases to the power generator that's far away and using a battery that's poisoning children who make them
  * Cost of driving EVs are equal to $17.33 per gallon of gasoline
Seems there is a real concentrated effort going on.

I can still remember my dad's reaction when the first proper high phone bill came in... Oh boy...

artofcode··on Athena serverless query service reduced monthly cost from $74 to $0.02
Well that is one way to keep costs down.
artofcode··on The dots do matter: how to scam a Gmail user
I have the same issue, but Uber has 2FA on the account through SMS. This way I can't login to cancel the account, and there is no 'unsubscribe here' link in the emails.

Also had someone use my email to sign up to an airline. After messing with the seat assignment and meal selection a few times it became old and customer service didnt know what to do, so I changed the associated email to 'helpdesk@airline.com'

Even funnier was how a gameshop website that I did have an account with actually changed my password and account details to be assigned to someone in another country. No notifications etc... So now there are a bunch of trade-in credits on my account, after changing it back to my own details.

I'd go with these two instead:

Not the number of miners but the average time it took to mine a block.

artofcode··on Bitcoin dropping after BTC China said it is closing
If they ban it completely and the demand remains, it'll disappear underground, while if the government embraces it and puts AML/KYC (and most likely cash-limits) in place, they can control (and tax) it.

Local bitcoins is already out there and if those get blocked by the great firewall of China, alternatives will pop up soon enough.

Also the ICO environment is littered with complete utter garbage and I can see lots of people getting burned when jumping in uninformed, which seems to be happening on an accelerated pace these days.

artofcode··on Bitcoin dropping after BTC China said it is closing
They didn't ban 'all cryptocurrencies'. They banned ICO's instead, and (afaik) it's a temporary ban until proper regulations are in place.
artofcode··on Stack Overflow Sunsetting Documentation
My first impression when seeing that there is "Why would I look at the documentation for Stackoverflow, I know my way around this website for what I need to do".
artofcode··on Hacking Voting Machines at Defcon
Such elections, much votes, wow.
artofcode··on Lyrebird – An API to copy the voice of anyone
Indeed, he doesn't like other voices and has always fallen back to using the same voice:

> "The voice I use is a very old hardware speech synthesizer made in 1986," he said. "I keep it because I have not heard a voice I like better and because I have identified with it."

artofcode··on The closest I've ever come to falling for a Gmail phishing attack
Session timeout? I believe mail hosted by google/gmail for companies can have rules setup that logins are invalidated after some time. I have this with my company e-mail for example. One would be even easier tricked if that's the case.
artofcode··on AI Programmer’s Bookshelf
Exactly. Game AI is not so much about making AI smart, but more about making it fun.
artofcode··on UK's new Snoopers Charter just passed an encryption backdoor law by the backdoor
Exactly. And think about private keys for SSL certificates. I'm not even sure if those are covered by the legal wording, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were.
artofcode··on UK's new Snoopers Charter just passed an encryption backdoor law by the backdoor
In The Netherlands nobody had anything to hide, like the Jews around WW2. It was all neatly recorded who was a Jew and made things a whole lot easier for the Germans once they got their hands on the records after they invaded.

People might not have anything to hide now, but things can change... fast.

artofcode··on UK's new Snoopers Charter just passed an encryption backdoor law by the backdoor
From the article:

> "The UK government can certainly insist that a company not based in the UK carry out its orders – that situation is specifically included in the new law – but as to whether it can realistically impose such a requirement, well, that will come down to how far those companies are willing to push back and how much they are willing to walk away from the UK market."

artofcode··on Google Earth VR
My bet would be the controllers, which would mean a Rift compatible release would be imminent when the Touch controllers are officially released in a month.
artofcode··on Male birth control study cut short as some participants experience side effects
Also important to note that permanent infertility is quite a strong side effect

> Eight participants had not recovered to meet the criteria of return to fertility after 52 weeks in recovery phase, the last visit according to the study protocol. These participants were followed on a case by case basis until they regained normal sperm counts (n 5, up to 74 wk of recovery) or declined further follow-up (n 2). One volunteer did not recover within 4 years since his last injections.
