I sometimes use Whatsapp (Android) as a fast multimedia todo app. The way it works is that I create a group where I am the only member. I then add an icon on the home screen that immediately takes me to the group so I can start typing, recording voice, taking photos, etc. It doesn't have task statuses or even checkboxes, but it can manage lots of different data formats.

+ Whoa, those aren't thumbnails - they are actually interactive site widgets? Cool, even though I don't really understand the underlying mental model; why would I want to interact with miniature versions of sites (other than it's cool, of course)?

+ App feels super fast. The site widgets were rendered instantaneously.

I have never experienced this as a problem myself. What I've often seen, however, is that online communities stagnate or die because their audience gets older and no new members are recruited, because they are too coupled to a specific legacy software, etc.

I love what you are basically suggesting is the jerry-rigged version of Frontpage or Dreamweaver.

The author suggests using a visual html editor and copying any code you need for layout, navigation, etc. You can't deny that's infinitely easier than rolling your own SSG and using markdown.

I love this because it's a reminder that simplicity is just around the corner if we only are open-minded to rediscover old truths. No complex server software, no package managers, no git, no SSG bullshit - just basic HTML and CSS.

It depends on the needs of the business of course, but for small companies Shopify is pretty good considering how much value you get for a couple of dollars per month.

WooCommerce exists for businesses with complex needs or when a business needs to be in control of their store and data. It's a complex software on top of another complex software but for what it enables businesses to do, I understand why even mid and large size businesses pick WooCommerce for their e-commerce stores. Some of the complexity can be countered by using a managed WordPress hosting like Kinsta or WP Engine, which are surprisingly affordable these days.

I did community work on Magento when it was about to blow up and even then it was kinda obvious that it was over-engineered, slow af and not suited for the shared hosting landscape (this was before it was branded as an "enterprise" solution). I'm surprised that anyone would recommend Magento to a new business in 2021.

Anyone else who worries about Firefox's market share? At which point does it become too difficult for Mozilla to fund the research and development of Firefox?
