Quantum Computers. Not like I'm five, but like I'm a software engineer who has a pretty decent understanding of how a classical turing machine works. I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone say "qubits are like bits except they don't have to be just 1 or 0" without providing any coherent explanation of how that's useful. I've also heard that they can try every possible solution to a problem. What I don't understand is how a programmer is supposed to determine the correct solution when their computer is out in some crazy multiverse. I guess what I want is some pseudo code for quantum software.

Do you really suspect that Linux would run as well as iOS? Isn't iOS optimized for the A17 and vice versa? It's out of my wheelhouse, but I suspect that this synergy is the only reason they seem so fast.

What about mushrooms? What about slime molds? What about insects? Google Lens does all of the above as well as plants and flowers and fruit and shoes. I think PlantNet looks nice, and I appreciate the web-only version! But Lens is built into my camera, it's hard to beat.

What I think would be useful is an app that could diagnose problems with plants. Some get yellow when dry, some get yellow when too wet. You could tell it the species and it could compare it to training data of sick plants of that species.

Too bad there's no application platform that's not owned by a corporation that you could have built this with. If only there were some kind of open standard that any computer could implement. Applications could even be linked together in a sort of "web". Unfortunately we live in the worst possible timeline where iOS and Android are the only option.

I'm looking for something that asks me what I want to do before letting me open any app on the phone. Then it could periodically ask if I have accomplished my goal. "You have been "reading hacker news" for 30 minutes, are you still "reading hacker news"? [No] [Yes- turns off phone]"

I--for one--love a GUI. Especially for git. I also love a good pun, so I'm definitely going to try this! It's gonna be tough to beat VS-Code and Kraken though.

I'm so bummed about this but I could feel it coming. The product hadn't changed in years. Motif helped me identify trends by showing me month/year returns for various "motifs". There are plenty of brokers, but I don't know how I'm going to replace it as a research tool.

My guess is they have realized what terrible idea it is to get rid of Hangouts while everyone is still using it.

I shouldn't be giving advice because I'm probably worse about this than you, but I've read a lot of books on the subject and tried a lot of things. Some things I've had success with: - journal/Todo lists, just the act of writing about what I want to do seems to make it real, till I start procrastinating about journalling ;-/ - say "I want to" instead of "I have to" or "I need to". You do what you want right!? - set a timer, do some work, then reward yourself by setting a shorter timer and having some fun - get an accountability partner, schedule a call where you discuss each other's goals, bust their balls

ADHD can be exacerbated by low energy. Some psychiatrists recommend eating sugar to help maintain focus.

As for the other stuff, if I cut those out I get miserable and more easily bored. Better to use them as carrots; "if I do 45 minutes of coding I can play 1 game of Rocket League."

I'm willing to trade my privacy for things I want. I don't want to know what kinds of diseases I'm coming in contact with every day. When a company starts invading my privacy without providing me with something I want I am likely to stop using them. Like I did with Facebook. Google was on thin ice before this. My next phone will likely be KaiOS powered.

I understand what scuttlebutt does. What I don't understand is why. What kind of information benefits from decentralization? The only answer I can think of is child porn.
