Yes. I think the classier version is to name it something else that seems like a normal park name. That way the employees and users can enjoy knowing the inside secret, but it doesn’t look gaudy to the world.

The way they’ve done it is very black mirror vibes.

arikr··on Ask HN: Jobs with Meaning?
I think what you might be looking for is urgency. If you're a high energy person, it can feel boring and unmotivating to work in an environment where nothing is needed from you on any non-distant timeframe.

That's my experience, anyway.

arikr··on A Jim Simons market mystery, solved?
Kinda a boring article.

The tldr is there’s some stocks his fund holds that are the result of private VC investments going public. That’s it. I was waiting for some kind of punchline but it didn’t arrive

arikr··on Ask HN: Employers, why do you want us back in the office?
1) Managing remote employees is harder. Managing in person is easier.

Both are doable, but managing someone remotely requires either the manager and/or the employee to be really good at remote comms.

2) in person spontaneous collaboration

3) my experience is most people get less done remotely. Some do more, but most do less

arikr··on AI is coming to Hollywood with Metaphysic
What are you saying?
arikr··on Ask HN: How are you handling Section 174 changes for bootstrapped companies?
Slightly odd to plug them given they didn't seem to be on top of this issue
arikr··on Ask HN: Is it still safe to use Stripe?
Smart!
arikr··on Ask HN: Is there a market for zero-knowledge API's?
Yes, I think so. Seems like what some enterprises will need

HIPAA compliant GPT, for example

arikr··on Ask HN: How do I get into angel investing?
My take: take 10-20% of it as a learning fund, try and deploy that over the next 3 months, into some combo of #1 and #3, as a quick way to get some initial experience (though note that results won't be clear until 10 years!). Only invest what you'd be willing to lose etc. Then once you've done that you'll be in a good position to figure out what to do next.

This is just an email list, no content.
arikr··on Tell HN: It is impossible to disable Google 2FA using backup codes
Google's 2FA is an absolute embarrassment. Super annoying that Google hasn't yet done more to improve it.

Insanely cool. Nice work to the team!

Which one?

Feels like blogspam.
arikr··on Bipartisan Legislation to Ban TikTok
If Elon can re-launch Vine in time, I could see this working out. US Government causes a mass TikTok exodus and everyone goes onto Vine.
arikr··on Hardening unused (sub)domains
I wish there was a one click way to set this up in my domain registrar. I’d pay a few dollars a year per domain too.
arikr··on Ask HN: Hourly billers, do you bill for only focused work?
Seems surprising to me. Rounding to 15 minutes, sure, but 60 seems surprising. Can more people chime in?

arikr··on Show HN: Transform Your City
I wasn't sure what this was at first, but it's actually a really cool project.

It uses AI to generate images of what cities could look like if they were more pedestrian-friendly. The idea is to show people these images and get them to sign petitions or take other action to get local governments to make these changes.

arikr··on Ask HN: Are VC startups and FANG the only places to earn large sums of money?
Quantitative trading firms like Two Sigma, Jane Street
arikr··on One trick Apple uses to make you think green bubbles are “gross”
The author should’ve included an example of a green with great contrast.
arikr··on Ask HN: How did you stop drinking?
Here are two excellent books on the topic:

1) controlling your drinking

2) how to change your drinking

I highly recommend either.

Is there a good video that shows what the experience is like for the wearer?
arikr··on The free YouTube tier is about to become unbearable with even more ads
I think you might've fixed it, thanks!

For anyone else reading: the issue happened on iOS Safari. I was signed in on the YouTube iOS app, and I was signed in on Google.com on Safari, so I assumed there wasn't anywhere else I needed to be signed in. But sure enough, I went to youtube.com in Safari and wasn't signed in. Tried it once after doing that and it worked. Will see if it solves it, seems likely.

arikr··on The free YouTube tier is about to become unbearable with even more ads
To YouTube employees reading:

I pay for YouTube premium.

So it really sucks when I google the name of a movie, click to play the trailer, and then it plays a pre-roll ad. This only happens with the movie trailers that you one click play from the search results. If I click on something that goes to the youtube domain or youtube app, it's fine.

I'd like no videos when I'm playing videos from google. My google account and youtube premium account are the same, so I'm not sure why it doesn't link.

arikr··on Tell HN: Otter.ai bot recording meetings without consent
Wtf, that's terrible UX.
arikr··on Part of my code makes Copilot crash
Much more likely: the upvotes are because many people have frustration at this type of thing, and limited places to channel their frustration, so when they see a post like this, they upvote it to express their frustration. Or maybe that’s just me..
