aqfamnzc··on Jensen Huang says AI distillation is 'competition.'
Haven't they already? (at least in the regular chat UI)
aqfamnzc··on Claude discovers a novel enzyme system with CRISPR-like repeats
They meant "neuralese".
aqfamnzc··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
I would never date someone with standards low enough to date a person like me. Huge red flag.
aqfamnzc··on I said no and Apple said yes
Like many other slang terms, the word "bricked" has been diluted to mean "moderately messed up." It's just how language changes over time.
aqfamnzc··on One year of sponsored Servo development
Thanks!
aqfamnzc··on The engineering behind the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve
Love the comic sans. It was a different time. :_)
aqfamnzc··on One year of sponsored Servo development
Can you explain more about that?
aqfamnzc··on The engineering behind the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve
Under ideal conditions - about 200 million years at least. In the salt, I'm not sure.
aqfamnzc··on What algorithm did Windows XP use to choose your initial user picture?
Dave Plummer?
aqfamnzc··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
Not the LLM, but the training material, yes.
aqfamnzc··on Suica, Japan's First IC Transit Card
Are you saying that an iphone can be used as a Suica card even with a dead battery? Or just that a discrete card still works when your phone is dead?
aqfamnzc··on Humanity has the debate about AI consciousness backwards
By that logic, a book has empathy.
aqfamnzc··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
On the other hand, models these days are getting to the point where even if all development halted permanently, they would continue to be useful long into the future. (At least until their knowledge base or linguistics become too outdated.)
aqfamnzc··on Black hole singularity is a surface not a point
Sounds like that would be true if you were inside any closed surface.
aqfamnzc··on Bomb fishing is wreaking havoc on Indonesia's coral reefs
Damn, watertight logic
aqfamnzc··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
The concept of heat of fusion blew my mind when I learned about it in high school chemistry. Feels extremely counterintuitive at first.
aqfamnzc··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
I don't think GP is trying to say they're so much better than the rest. Their point is that the majority of earth-dwellers, including their own relatively climate-conscious lifestyle, are not (and are not willing to) do nearly enough to meaningfully affect the situation.
aqfamnzc··on MS Paint and Photos inivisibly watermark even locally generated output with GUID
Paint.net is named after the dot net framework and is not referring to a URL or the internet as I understand it.
aqfamnzc··on How do I permanently disable random Google Photos popup to backup photos? (2024)
I honestly think I've been trained to ignore the "natural" button across all computer/phone usage because of how common this dark pattern is. Over the years it's switched my brain to first look for the greyed-out text, haha.
aqfamnzc··on Stop Killing the Internet: No Digital ID and No Age Verification
Oof. You're missing out if you think meatspace is limited to target and big American cities. I agree that the web makes it easy(er) to connect with others in niche interests, but in-person experiences can be so diverse, vibrant, stimulating that I understand the simmering tug some have toward wanting the internet to become unusable. I agree with sibling that a "healed" internet, while very optimistic, is the ideal case.

Sincerely, your fellow terminally online HN commenter.

aqfamnzc··on Judge Rejects Google's Attempt to DMCA Its Way Out of Being Scraped
Let me tell you about this new little-known technology that's been gaining traction in the last few years...
aqfamnzc··on First Robotic Satellite Servicer Launched
I would think there are much less expensive and more rapid methods of "on-orbit disassembly" than a system like this?
aqfamnzc··on Nobody knows what a used GPU cluster is worth
Isn't this just Substack?
aqfamnzc··on "Drawing" the Mona Lisa with GPT-5.6, Claude, Gemini, and Grok
I'm surprised that the harness wasn't better described here. Is the draw tool really just asking LLMs to provide a set of coordinates/parameters for generating shapes? Honestly, if so, the results are shockingly good. Think of how well a typical human artist would do with such a crude method of applying brushstrokes.
aqfamnzc··on OpenAI and Hugging Face address security incident during model evaluation
What? Can you explain a little more what you mean?
aqfamnzc··on Fable is now included on Max plans (up to 50% of weekly limit)
Oh, I misinterpreted your initial comment.
aqfamnzc··on The Voice of Google
Lol, read the article buddy
aqfamnzc··on Fable is now included on Max plans (up to 50% of weekly limit)
Just don't use fable if you don't want it?
aqfamnzc··on Codex is wearing out our devices
Yes, they have a finite number of writes. The controller keeps track of this so you can even see what % of your SSD life is remaining in that sense.
aqfamnzc··on Sleep regularity is a stronger predictor of mortality risk than sleep duration (2023)
The solution is clear: Offer the red car option as a trap, banning anyone who chooses it.
