angryasian··on Ask HN: Why is cryptocurrency so hated here?
This is just a ridiculous response.

Older people have seen this hype cycle before drummed up by VC's and media.

Remember when "data is the new oil" and billions were invested in the "big data" market because it was going to revolutionize how businesses do business.

Sure theres a great use case and theres definitely utility but its another example of a solution trying to find the problem. Crypto / blockchain is similar. Theres good tech there and I'm sure it will be useful in some aspects, but again.. a solution trying to find the problem.

angryasian··on What the Omicron wave is revealing about human immunity
your kids will be fine either way, but they are far more likely to catch and spread without being vaccinated.
angryasian··on Ask HN: Why the obsession with note taking?
why nota and not obsidian ?
angryasian··on Japan’s Vaccination Policy: No Force, No Discrimination
unequivocally a false narrative. Japan from a young age is ingrained to best what's best for the rest of society and respect elders.

They don't need to force because it's unlikely people wouldn't

angryasian··on My First Impressions of Web3
ehh.. why sell the item once to a person in a large open market, when you can sell the item multiple times to the same person in multiple markets.
angryasian··on Why Restaurants Are So Fucked
restaurant industry has been doomed for a reset for a long time now. An industry that relies on customers to tip and can't afford to pay their employees fair wages is not one that should be in business. Any other industry, if you can't pay employees you go out of business.
angryasian··on How to mentor software engineers
Disagree, you can find mentors in many areas. Outside of core competencies. It really depends on what level you're at in your career. Yes a Sr engineer mentoring a Jr engineer, absolutely. A director of engineering mentoring a engineering manager, not so much.
angryasian··on How to mentor software engineers
>I just said I no longer push them on one.

Yeah this is what I don't agree with. As a leader, you act as a shield to the people that report to you. You may be privy to information or have a better view of the overall big picture. Sometimes there are burdens you don't want to put on the people that report to you. We can only be so transparent a lot of times.

Theres going to be times where you'll need to have them align with overall company goals etc.

angryasian··on How to mentor software engineers
The failure here, is engineering leaders are rarely chosen for their soft skills and ability to mentor vs their technical expertise. Sounds like you only care about the latter, adding to the current system
angryasian··on How to mentor software engineers
I disagree, in that you sometimes you do need to get the person to see things your way. As a mentor you should provide / present options. Failure is a powerful lesson, but being able to learn without failure is just is the same outcome.
angryasian··on The satirical Non-Fungible Olive Gardens sold more than $130k in volume
not a bad idea
angryasian··on Ask HN: Why is metaverse land valuable?
just google the "earth2 scam" and you can see why its all bs.

There is a reality where some service will win the mindshare of people to use AR to enhance your experiences as you walk around your city. Its very likely whomever owns those plots of lands on so called service will be able to do what they want to monetize. Its also possibly for whatever FOMO or hype is built around so called metaverse land that there will be money to be made by the buying and selling of metaverse land.

As of now its all a scam until there is evidence that this AR or MMO appears and will be successful, its all in the minds of people that are buying and selling.

angryasian··on Web3 is going just great
well said.
angryasian··on Web3 is going just great
not only that but the idea of ownership of a token and the underlying asset have yet to be challenged in court
angryasian··on Nike Acquires NFT Startup
Im sure they got it at a good price incase the hype is real and sticks around. One thing NIke is great at is marketing. To make a younger generation believe that Nike sneakers are "culture" is fantastic marketing.
angryasian··on Web3 is not Decentralisation – it’s a Ploy to put Crypto Bros in Charge
I read about how people are making the claim of how this will bring back the web of the early days. The web was always introduced as walled gardens and people love walled gardens. From the beginning if was Yahoo telling you what links to click or aol portals. Today its Apple's curated ecosystem and Facebook.

I don't see how decentralizing anything helps.

angryasian··on Reddit.com has deleted AAAA records and is back to being a legacy website
they are trying so hard to actually try to make it as an ad space. They added link your facebook and apple accounts. Seriously who tf is doing that. They want to push their ads product.

Not that they can't hire product managers, they don't hire product managers that understand the audience and what reddit the actual product is. IMO theres better ways to monetize their audience than ads.

angryasian··on Using deepfakes to 10x our investor's outreach to recruit our Sr Designer
Lol I think its more funny thinking any of these guys will really make a difference in a candidates decision process.
angryasian··on Launch HN: Dendron (YC W21) – Structured note-taking for developers and teams
thank you for the Obsidian recommendation.
angryasian··on Covid vaxx efficacy after 8 months
First, vaccinations are required for schools as an example.

Second, this should only be temporary until the burden on the health care is reduced. The fundamental problem is not enough people getting vaccinated. None of this would be necessary if more people were vaccinated.

angryasian··on Ask HN: Why do recruiters ask why are you looking for a new position
> can't stick around because of personality clashes

No way to know this, and Im sure any experienced candidate would ever say this

angryasian··on Covid-19: Researcher blows the whistle on Pfizer vaccine trial data integrity
>Pfizer’s vaccine at several sites in Texas during that autumn, speed may have come at the cost of data integrity and patient safety. A regional director who was employed at the research organisation Ventavia Research Group has told The BMJ that the company falsified data, unblinded patients, employed inadequately trained vaccinators, and was slow to follow up on adverse events reported in Pfizer’s pivotal phase III trial

While concerning, this was only a few sites in Texas.

angryasian··on Why Facebook is spending billions on the metaverse
Blackberry was incredibly successful. I don't know why people always leave it out of the conversation.
angryasian··on Why Facebook is spending billions on the metaverse
thats not how FB makes money. They make money from ads and the younger demographic is where the most ad spend is done today. Not saying they can't make money, but it just not what most advertisers want.
angryasian··on Roku tells customers it is unable to strike a deal with YouTube
lets be real, Google makes more from ad revenue than the sales of videos, etc. I doubt this is a big sticking point to deplatform their app.
angryasian··on Roku tells customers it is unable to strike a deal with YouTube
Theres so many better options these days for a simple box to install apps and stream media. Its pretty much commodity, why anyone cares about Roku alone is surprising to me. Content is king and Roku is not it.
angryasian··on Roku tells customers it is unable to strike a deal with YouTube
Doesn't it ?

>asking Roku to create a dedicated search results row for YouTube within the Roku smart TV interface

>we have never, as they have alleged, made any requests to access user data or interfere with search results.

Doesn't this contradict the idea that Roku claims they are asking for special search results.

>Hah, a "high quality" experience indeed. Except, it's not quite "on youtube" since it's more "on Roku".

I'm not understanding your point here, its the Youtube app. Why is it more on Roku ?

>crap that lets Google shovel shit down Roku users.

If you don't like youtube don't use it.

angryasian··on Zillow stops home buying as it struggles to manage its backlog of inventory
they shouldn't be allowed to buy in certain areas to begin with. Especially for the reasons to artificially drive up values
angryasian··on At Netflix, a star and employees pressure a top executive over Dave Chappelle
Its interesting to me that at one time the idea of separating politics and work used to be standard decorum.

I do think we as human beings obviously can not shut off our feelings, its important for companies to realize this and allow their employees to disagree and express themselves. In the end, its still up to employees to be mature about it.

angryasian··on At Netflix, a star and employees pressure a top executive over Dave Chappelle
in the short term, unlikely. If they can't manage to keep their systems running for a few hours during off peak hours, then they have bigger problems.
