World lens has been around since 2010

Layar since 2009

ARKit is still the same hold your phone up to do AR. Why is it different now ?

angryasian··on Ask HN: What tech that's right around the corner are you most excited about?
ARKit what these guys are talking about isn't even that. Its just holding up your phone. This functionality has been around forever. From Worldlens, to Yelp to the Ikea app. I don't know why all of the sudden its considered "Around the corner"
angryasian··on 63,000 people have cancelled their Model 3 orders so far
I'm in this same boat. Really who knows when self driving cars will be legalized, and by the end of next year I imagine there will be a lot more cars with auto pilot. Although I am expected to receive one in November based on my reservation number, so I'm still considering it.
angryasian··on Show HN: Ad-Free Life – Adblocking as a Service
The general problem I see with network ad blockers is sometimes you need to enable certain blocked domains for certain sites to work. When the utility or content of the site outweighs the need to block , its impossible to do with most of these network level blockers.
angryasian··on Ask HN: How are FB and GOOG growing if hardly anyone intentionally clicks on ads
I think you're underestimating some of the ad products. Video ads are very lucrative. Facebook auto play's ads and their measurement is usually how long it actually plays. Facebook's native advertising, is very effective when targeted properly. Most people don't realize its an ad.

For google Impression based advertising is still huge, and growing especially on mobile apps/games. Youtube's and mobile video ads again, like facebook is very lucrative. Most of the time these video ads can't even be skipped. Also context based search is still huge. Most people will click on the first link of a search regardless if its an ad or not.

So its really less to do with click and more about views.

angryasian··on Popcoin – Let's get you paid
It was my understanding that Stripe would be used primarily for credit cards payments to convert to this coin.
angryasian··on Popcoin – Let's get you paid
why convert to coins ? why not just use stellar directly ?
angryasian··on NBC News launches a twice-daily Snapchat news broadcast
well thats what they claimed on their filings.
angryasian··on NBC News launches a twice-daily Snapchat news broadcast
they are starting to sound more like a media company than a camera company
angryasian··on My Failed Attempt at Engineering Love
how did he interact with mobile tinder ?
angryasian··on Why getting traction is so hard these days
AR / VR ?
angryasian··on How to Interview Engineers
Theres no way I would quit my current job before having another job lined up, if I didn't need to. I do agree that looking for a new opportunity is like a full time job, but when you are already employed the necessity is not as great. I can take my time over months rather than try to treat it like a 9 - 5.
angryasian··on How to Interview Engineers
If I'm already employed, it be weird to take a week off just to work for another company. Also ramp up time takes at least a day or two. This whole process seems troublesome for both the employee and employer
angryasian··on Nintendo Announces SNES Classic, Comes with 21 Games
Same I still want a NES classic. Nintendo is missing out on sales. I've seen the classic selling for 200 - 400.
angryasian··on Ask HN: What projects are 20 years ahead of their time?
AR I can see becoming a part of everyday life. VR not so much. I think the challenges, primarily locomotion will not be solved without a big investment. VR will succeed as arcades and amusement park settings.
angryasian··on Show HN: ShittyMVP.com – Quick and Dirty MVP with a Money Back Guarantee
can you explain your process after payment ? Like design, how do you collect requirements that are in scope ? etc.

What language or frameworks do you use ?

Do you at least try to write good code ?

angryasian··on At what age does ageism start to affect opportunities for software engineers?
Sadly if you aren't on a management tract by 40 you're opportunities will be come less and less. Theres only so many Sr Engineers or Architects a company needs. For some reason companies don't mind hiring a hand full of managers for every one Sr engineer. From startups to big companies I've seen this to be true. Just throw a bunch of younger engineers at problems and solutions that are designed by one or two sr engineers.
angryasian··on I Threw Away $4.8M in Bitcoin
I think everyone that jumped into bitcoin early on has a similar story. I had a few hundred bitcoin and when shops started integrating with bitcoin I bought stupid things off of sites like Overstock. Now I have worthless things and those bitcoin would be worth so much more.
angryasian··on Ask HN: Why is Reddit worth so little?
I think this is a little bit of rewriting history. Reddit in the beginning was always fairly niche. Primarily for early adopters and tech focused. They were getting beaten by Digg, Fark, Slashdot, Twitter, Facebook etc. They sold to Conde Nast. I don't know if they could have raised a series A at the time. Steve Huffman and Alexis Ohanian created and sold Reddit in 16 months.

angryasian··on “Google Is as Close to a Natural Monopoly as the Bell System Was in 1956″
thanks for the information. Yeah without attribution, it does seem like they are wrong on this.
angryasian··on “Google Is as Close to a Natural Monopoly as the Bell System Was in 1956″
> pre-existing market with network effects. (a phenomenon whereby a product or service gains additional value as more people use it.)

Google has network effects as well as they own Android dialer, hangouts, google messenger, and email. I don't buy this argument. They just failed.

Also you'd be the first person I'd see that defends Yelp's business model, but yeah I'm not familiar with the Google vs Yelp court case.

angryasian··on “Google Is as Close to a Natural Monopoly as the Bell System Was in 1956″
You must not be paying attention to all the failures that google releases.

Google dominates email, but waves and even inbox I would say aren't catching on. They are failing in mobile messaging. Even though they own a huge part of your social graph through phone and email, they still can't get social right. Google owns ITA but Google flights is not the first place you look for plane tickets. Google also owns Zagat, but foursquare and yelp still dominate.

I think the argument only looks at the wins and completely ignores everything else.

angryasian··on “Google Is as Close to a Natural Monopoly as the Bell System Was in 1956″
Well I don't see why funding should be a consideration. Maybe they should release a better product based off of a viable business model.
angryasian··on Ask HN: Do you still use RSS if not what else?
I'm on the opposite end, I don't want several different newsletters that are all formatted with too much space wasted and designed to look appealing. Just give me a list of all the content and titles and I'll decide what I want to read. To each their own I guess.
angryasian··on [dead]
I really don't think anything he is doing post presidency, especially speaking engagements is bad. How can you criticize him without knowing the content on what he is speaking of? Now Trump on the otoh is pillaging while in office. This is the worst part.
angryasian··on Show HN: Kobble – Notes app that saves directly to GitHub
which one are you using now ?
angryasian··on Show HN: Kobble – Notes app that saves directly to GitHub
thanks for sharing this, I've been looking for something like this for awhile. I've just been using wrangler and having a bunch of docs open in the side window. I also tried using scribbleton, but hate how big everything is. This is great.
angryasian··on I Don’t Care If a Flight Attendant Almost Hit a Baby
While he has a point, the way that the flight attendant reacted when the man wanted his name by wanting to fight was uncalled for. This is a big indication to me that again they handled this situation poorly and the man that supposedly hit the woman and almost her child, was probably not in a good state of mind. If you hurt or injure someone as a person working in the service industry, your first reaction should not be wanting to fight someone that is being abrasive while trying to help.
angryasian··on Why Juicero’s Press Is So Expensive
Well that might be part of it, but the reason is because the juice had no preservatives so they will go bad. Honestly it would be a product failure if people were getting sick for using the bags after they've gone rotten
