angryasian··on Snap Revenue Surges 72% on User Growth, Advertising Gains
You're example is a strawman. Turner Broadcasting and Facebook is like comparing apples and oranges.

>The one that isn't sucking in huge amounts of data is a clearly better to me.

But Snap is sucking in huge amounts of data. Your assumptions are false.

angryasian··on Snap Revenue Surges 72% on User Growth, Advertising Gains
lol, i don't know why you think snap will be any better or any better currently. They are all just advertising companies. Lets not be naive and really pretend one is really better than the other.
angryasian··on Ad campaign runs cryptocurrency miners while unwitting users watch videos
Well brave does intend on displaying ads at some point. Without knowing their exact implementation as to what ads will be displayed it might be possible eventually.
angryasian··on Show HN: Spectrum for AWS Cloudwatch
pricing and constraints up front would be useful. I can't seem to find a link anywhere.
angryasian··on Snap lays off two dozen employees
I agree... I don't know Spiegel but I've heard that its very top - down in terms of what needs to be done and product managers lead decisions on what needs to be done. If an engineer has a recommendation to actually improve better news, I doubt it would be heard and fall on deaf ears to what Evan or product would think is a better use of "Engineering" time.
angryasian··on Amazon announces candidate cities for HQ2
Theres several reasons why LA is a good choice. As you mentioned Hollywood and Amazon's push into original content. Amazon is also pushing heavily into gaming, and So Cal is one the best areas for this. Amazon's biggest fulfillment centers is in So Cal. Access to ports along the coast. LA is dumping billions into public infrastructure with the Olympics and measure M. LA has a lot of good schools in the area, USC, UCLA, Cal tech. LA is very forward in terms of govt policy, look at Elon's Boring Company as an example. If Amazon ever wants to get serious about Drone delivery I imagine LA would be perfect for this. On top of the other reasons of its proximity to Seattle and Asia.
angryasian··on Tens of thousands of Indians with cheap phones flood a US coder’s website
the link you posted may be wrong, because it doesn't have anything to do with the linked article
angryasian··on Psychiatrist Sues a Bunch of Redditors for Criticizing His Therapy Services
I think it will be interesting to see if reddit will be required to hand over this information requested. I know reddit is pseudo-anonymous but this will be eye opening for a lot of their user base.
angryasian··on Google collects cell tower info even if location services are disabled
If you care that much about your privacy and security you shouldn't use a cell phone at all. Your ISP's and network will be the biggest offender of collecting and selling your data.
angryasian··on Brave expands Basic Attention Token platform to YouTube
No there was a big difference. Paypal was a referral system and the money came out of Paypal's pocket not the user sending the referral. So if the user never redeemed it was no loss to paypal.
angryasian··on Show HN: Pingpoint – Business logic alerts to the right person at the right time
I think your biggest issue is the documentation. I can barely tell what it is based on some of the comments here sounds like it does something completely different.

edit: I see you have to sign up first. Come on dude. Just show the documentation.

angryasian··on Introducing Oculus Go, Plus Santa Cruz Updates
Im curious to know if the Oculus Go will work with the touch controllers.
angryasian··on Introducing Oculus Go, Plus Santa Cruz Updates
Santa Cruz is just the controllers and encompasses the tracking.

You shouldn't be driving and wearing wireless headphones
angryasian··on Harvard Study Shows Apple Slows Down Old iPhones to Sell New Models
>If there was a smoking gun here, it would likely kill their smartphone business.

I highly doubt it. Even if this was confirmed by Apple itself, I don't think it would hurt them in sales at all.

angryasian··on $782k over asking for a house in Sunnyvale
i'd rather be dead in california than alive in Phoenix
angryasian··on Snapchat’s Influencers Are Fleeing to Instagram for Money
Facebook also has the stories feature, along with AR camera. I think it's just available through their app though.

Trader Joes has limited selection but good quality and good prices overall. I welcome the competition.

angryasian··on U.S. judge says LinkedIn cannot block startup from public profile data

angryasian··on Ask HN: Predictions on what will be the most surprising technology in 10 years?
usable and realistic holography will be the next big step forward in visualization and interactivity.
angryasian··on Why did we switch from Braintree to Stripe?
Reading this article I thought the same thing. The reasons they decided to switch sounds like just a lack of understanding the the Braintree offerings. The title should be titled "We switched because Stripe's documentation was better and we didn't want to learn Braintree's"
angryasian··on Ask HN: What tech that's right around the corner are you most excited about?
we'll have to agree to disagree. These AR kit demos are still apps. When it comes to usability for users they are still holding up their phones and looking through a magic window. Apple users have surprised me before, so I'm not discounting it. If you try the Ikea app everything you state is certainly doable without AR kit. I just don't see it as around the corner or necessarily new and emerging.
