andreshb··on State of emergency declared after blackout plunges most of Chile into darkness
The Night of Terror during the 1977 blackout in NYC led to 1000 fires, 4000 arrests, and 550 injured police.

The blackout in 2003 in NYC had no looting or violence.

The blackout in Maracaibo Venezuela in 2019 had 350 stores looted and 550+ people arrested.

The difference was the economic and social challenges in 1977 in NYC and 2019 in Venezuela. A recession and high unemployment.

I use prezi video. But it’s very clunky. So really I use Canva for creating the slides and then Prezi video.

This seems much much better.

If it’s as good or better I’ll drop Prezi and switch completely. Pricing seems good, I don’t share the same opinion of many commenters here. Perhaps because I’m on zoom all day both in 1:1 and 1:many including workshops where I’m the speaker then I might be the right ICP

Could you do a comparison with Prezi Video ?

andreshb··on Hacker News Activity Analysis with GPT-4 Agent
Do you have samples of time-based cohort analysis? Most other solutions out there struggle to do the steps to generate time-based heatmaps and line graphs of cohort analysis. Averages, medians, and anything that can be done on a spreadsheet by a high schooler, GPT does well with.

andreshb··on Launch HN: June (YC W21) – Product Analytics for B2B SaaS Companies
Every time I try to do time-series cohort analysis or Lifetime LTV expandability on many of the analytics tools out there I get frustrated and up resorting to Tableau. It took mixpanel a decade to finally get some of it right but it's still too simple. I don't like tableau but it sure beats doing custom SQL queries all the time. How do you handle cohort analysis?
andreshb··on Show HN: Watermelon – GPT-powered code contextualizer
This and how you actually managed the data being sent / code. Compliance won’t let me touch this otherwise
andreshb··on Show HN: Watermelon – GPT-powered code contextualizer
I can’t use ChatGPT in too many cases because of lack of data transfer agreement.

Aside from an appliance in some local servers, what vendors do you use that solve this problem well ?

andreshb··on Playing games with AIs: The limits of GPT-3 and similar large language models
tl:dr by GPT3

Paper contributes to debate about abilities of large language models like GPT-3

Evaluates how well GPT performs on the Turing Test

Examines limits of such models, including tendency to generate falsehoods

Considers social consequences of problems with truth-telling in these models

Proposes formalization of "reversible questions" as a probabilistic measure

Argues against claims that GPT-3 lacks semantic ability

Offers theory on limits of large language models based on compression, priming, distributional semantics, and semantic webs

Suggests that GPT and similar models prioritize plausibility over truth in order to maximize their objective function Warns that widespread adoption of language generators as writing tools could result in permanent pollution of informational ecosystem with plausible but untrue texts.

andreshb··on How I learned to stop worrying and structure all writing as a list
Lists make writing easier

1. I write ideas without worrying about transitions

2. I can quickly review if I’m missing any important point

3. Forces me to simplify what I try to communicate with less words and more meaning

andreshb··on I ruin developers’ lives with my code reviews and I'm sorry

I like how they "guarantee support in case of problems" after you pay them. God forbid they lose a customer. Are they going for repeat buys?
andreshb··on Wealthy use debt to buy future cash flow everyone else uses debt to buy stuff (2020)
The oversimplification makes sense when the side hustle scales without requiring more time.

If he expands his vending machine, lemonade, beach house portfolio, it quickly becomes a full time job, and he will probably need contractors/employees. The opportunity cost of his MD income versus his hustle income will be high for many many years.

andreshb··on The Amazon Rainforest Now Emits More Greenhouse Gases Than It Absorbs
Activities like extensive logging for cattle ranching are driven by economic returns, global agreements and policy is not enough. There has to be a competing economic alternative that makes it more profitable to preserve rather than destroy the rainforest.

andreshb··on Show HN: Ready-Made CRM, Project and Content Management on Notion
One time life payment of $3k USD?

Would it be a challenge for people to try it first if they have to pay $3k over three payments instead of the typical free trial or freemium models?

andreshb··on Show HN: Ready-Made CRM, Project and Content Management on Notion
This looks very promising since people already love their notion workflow, you are building on top.

Is the pricing one time or 1k a month? It's not super clear.

Might be worth also having a pre-set demo people can play with on top of the video. If there is one, I did not catch it.

andreshb··on Show HN: Plain Sending – Send bulk emails using your everyday email client
I've helped small businesses and startups deal with this before. I think there's value in this because most of the time they use mailchimp and end up in the newsletters inbox or spam filter. The roundabout way is doing mail merge using google spreadsheets + google script, using another tool like yetanothermailmerge or some overkill crm add on that does mail merge. This seems a lot simpler. I would love to try it but I don't have anything to mass mail right now. Looks promising though.
andreshb··on Show HN: Scribble – Realtime Whiteboarding for Developers
I recently led taking a CS + ML school from in person to remote for 500 students. Most have gravitated towards Miro as the online whiteboard of choice. When you tried these options why did you feel they did not fulfill your need?

andreshb··on Ask HN: What Stops You from Switching Remote US Only to Remote Same Time Zone?
Would that mean that your company would hire if it found people with the skills residing in Canada and Latin America just like Automattic, Auth0, Gitlab, AI Fund, NodeSource, Ooyala, WolframAlpha, Auth0, etc. found them ?
andreshb··on Ask HN: What Stops You from Switching Remote US Only to Remote Same Time Zone?
Government contracts makes a lot of sense. International travel being messier during a pandemic, especially flying into the US might be something people are unwilling to do, but pre pandemic it’s just slightly longer line with CBP, not really a material obstacle.
andreshb··on Ask HN: What Stops You from Switching Remote US Only to Remote Same Time Zone?
Would you have the same problem working with non native English speaker immigrant programmers in the US? They’ve spoken English for decades but not native speakers.
