anderber··on Google podcasts is shutting down
Fastmail is great, specially for power users. I personally like Hey email because of the unique features it has.
anderber··on Google podcasts is shutting down
I'm able to subscribe to podcast feeds and have auto-downloads on the YT Music app.
anderber··on Kagi Search – Paywalled articles indicator and improved weather widget
Can you pay for Kagi with bitcoin?
anderber··on Spotify will reduce total headcount by approximately 17%
I thought other streaming services have similar functionality, right? I know Deezer has Deezer Connect.
anderber··on 'Weird Al' Roasts Spotify's Artist Payout System in Year-End Wrapped Video
For a while Deezer was pushing a model similar to this, they called it User Centric Payment System: https://musically.com/2019/09/11/deezer-steps-up-its-efforts...

Here's another article on it: https://www.engadget.com/2019-09-11-deezer-royalty-system-sm...

Unfortunately, they've since changed it to a model that the labels wanted.

anderber··on 280M e-bikes and mopeds are cutting demand for oil far more than electric cars
Electric motorcycles in developing countries could be huge. So many things are done in them: deliveries, taxis, work transportation, etc. A combination of that and some form of non-oil public transportation would be huge.
anderber··on Obama Drops the UBI Bomb [video]
It feels like Andrew Yang was at least right about tech and UBI and ahead of his time. Perhaps Obama noticed what he was doing when he was running against Biden for the primary. He also worked with the Obama admin as part of the Presidential Ambassadors for Global Entrepreneurship.
anderber··on Portugal. The Man – Official Website Is a Google Sheets Document
It looks like John Gurley has a GoFundMe to help research a treatment/cure for his daughter's genetic mutation: https://gofund.me/d012bb5b
anderber··on Kidney stone procedure "has the potential to be game changing"
May I ask what triggered them for you? As someone prone to them, I'm curious if I'm doing everything possible to avoid these nasty things.
anderber··on How Google alters search queries to get at your wallet
A couple of thoughts: Brave started out with crypto, Kagi uses Google's API for results. Brave Search is at least independent and not reliant on Google.
anderber··on uBlock Origin Lite now available on Firefox
That's only if you opt-in to the Brave ads.
anderber··on Sixto Rodriguez has died
I remember when I saw the documentary for the first time. I was really moved and was heartbroken by his story. What an incredible person and what incredible music.
anderber··on Brave Search launches own image and video search
I believe you're correct. Kagi just uses Google's API and makes some changes on top of it.
anderber··on VPN use is at an all-time high – but are people safe?
That's precisely what I use it for. However, lately, I've been using [controld](https://controld.com) to geo-shift without having to change connections. It works really well for that.
anderber··on Florida has banned direct-to-consumer auto sales, but Tesla and co get a pass
DeSantis announced his presidential bid on Twitter, so I'd say there's a very strong connection.
anderber··on Google no longer automatically indexes websites?
Don't they use Google for their results? I'd imagine they'd run into the same issues the article is pointing out.
anderber··on Firefox displayed a pop-up ad for Mozilla VPN over an unrelated page
Are they private by default or do you need to make adjustments to the settings to it? So far Brave seems to be the most private popular browser out-of-box.
anderber··on Kanboard: free and open source Kanban project management software
I got around this by making the text in the card a link to another file/page.
anderber··on The Unauthorized Restoration of TorGuard’s Telegram Channel
This is a wild story, let us know if Telegram reaches out for any updates on this. I used to really like Telegram, but this makes me rethink it.
anderber··on Tutanota – Revolutionary Changes Ahead
I guess I only had a couple hundred, so it was working well for me.
anderber··on Tutanota – Revolutionary Changes Ahead
I like that Tutanota has a lot of features (like calendar and contacts) and it's still just €1 a month.
anderber··on Google keeps failing its Nest customers
I currently use ControlD to adblock my whole network: https://controld.com/ I constantly see Roku ads being blocked every 2 seconds.
anderber··on Office of the President of Mongolia: Top to bottom text on the web
It's really interesting that the numbers are sideways, I wonder if they actually write them that way or if it's just a quirk of the web.
anderber··on NPR quits Twitter after being labeled as 'state-affiliated media'
By this logic there would so many companies that are "federally funded" that the label itself would become irrelevant.
anderber··on Immune system cells in the gut linked to stress-induced depression
This is pure anecdotal, but since getting C-Diff a few years ago, whenever I get sick my gut feels much better (same with my skin). When my gut starts hurting again, and my eczema flares back up, I know that I'm almost over it and should slow down the vitamin C. And of course, my anxiety/stress also flares up.
anderber··on The Dogs of Chernobyl
Such a great movie, one of my favorite science fiction films.
anderber··on ‘Confirming we are cleared to land?’ Who said what at Austin
Absolutely. That and the fact that the senior pilot wasn't listening to his co-pilot and didn't feel like he needed to.
anderber··on Gattaca is still pertinent 25 years later
Gattaca was so ahead of its time, reminds me I should re-watch it again.
anderber··on 43 Hours on the Amtrak Southwest Chief
Unfortunately, private companies own most of the rails so unless they decide to upgrade them, that's as fast as we can go. A lot of other countries with successful rail infrastructure has the government own them.

Taking a train vs plane can cut your CO2 emission quite a bit: https://www.seat61.com/CO2flights.htm

What are the regulations on staff? I'm not aware of what Amtrak is required, currently. I'd imagine that's their biggest cost, not weight. Although, I do like the idea of having a more compact/denser sleeping cars. The Roomettes are really small, but they come with attendants, etc.

Amtrak is currently upgrading some of their long distance cars: https://www.travelandleisure.com/amtrak-upgrades-overnight-t...

anderber··on 43 Hours on the Amtrak Southwest Chief
Taking the train for long trips is so relaxing and fun. Make sure you get a bedroom and bring books to read. You meet plenty of interesting people making their journey too.
