It's kind of like seeing something is written in Lisp or Scheme... somebody decided that functional systems and running code aren't worth it. Instead they'll build a system which is perfect in all ways in theory but nobody can or will ever use.
I’ve tried Nix on a Mac half a dozen times. It always ends with frustration.
Homebrew works amazingly if you actually want to be on a Mac. If you HATE everything about MacOS and Apple and someone forced you to use a Mac, then use Docker and Nix inside of that.
Nix should never be used on a Mac. It is a philosophical disaster. Don’t do it. Delete the repos and the world will be better off.
Now when somebody offers to help, be welcoming because it's amazing. But also remember that most of the time their desire to help won't translate in to something useful. That's ok, eventually people will show up who are helpful. Keep being open.
Also, what the hell is somebody doing making a social network if they don't like people.... WTF!?
I happily pay Apple for MLS matches because there was no reliable way to get them here in New Zealand. It is still stupid because Apple has no idea what they're doing, the announcers are terrible, the audio levels all over the place, random silence, it gets loud, then random cutting between shots... At least it streams well.
But for other leagues? It is cheaper to go buy a ticket to watch the Wellington Phoenix at the stadium than it is to pay for streaming! Even then I can only find some matches.
What about other leagues? I follow Uruguayan soccer... good luck finding a place I could even pay for that which licenses the content in New Zealand.
My only hope is that this post about how to block pirate streaming will help the pirates evade being blocked.
Most of rural NZ has zero coverage. And i'm not talking very rural, you can still be IN WELLINGTON CITY and still have no coverage. I lose coverage sometimes biking along the waterfront. If you go 30 minutes outside of the city centre, there's basically no coverage. Along major highways, like driving from Wellington to Auckland, MOST of the route has zero coverage.
Seriously, how is anything so hard to use still around after 20 years!
Matrix IS XMPP 2.0.

Same is true for anything crypto. The account as it were exists on many devices, but it's not something you as the app creator can manage.
I think apple protecting privacy is good, but the effect on actually private systems is complicated.
Help us build out secure scuttlebutt as an open protocol for decentralized social media that puts users in control. Work on open source to solve important problems in the world. Planetary is working with twitter's bluesky to build a better future.
