analog··on Apple reports $9.5 billion second quarter profit
Subsidized plans are common enough in Europe as far as I'm aware. It's just that you've also generally had the option of buying the iPhone outright.

Fwiw I think the 'cheap iPhone' option has been the iPod touch.

A few results pop up on Ebay for 'pcb manufacture'.

analog··on CipherCloud Responds to the Crypto StackExchange Controversy
The damage to their reputation should be quite a good example. Nowhere near so many would have heard of this if they hadn't issued the takedown.
analog··on EBay recruits users in push against sales tax legislation
Of course that's standard operating procedure, but after being treated like that why should sellers campaign on behalf of Ebay?

Sellers will be responsible for paying this tax, not buyers.

analog··on EBay recruits users in push against sales tax legislation
Absolutely. Ebay's policy has been to steadily increase fees until they reach a point where too many sellers quit.

The net effect on sellers will be zero in the long term. They will either pay a sales tax or they will pay Ebay's increased fees.

analog··on You do not need a DSLR to take nice looking photos, your phone will suffice
I actually think they will make your photos better. Better glassware = better image. Now that's not to say that you can't take an OK, or even a great image on a phone, but you will definitely start to run up against technical limitations sooner. Low light, fast movement, anything where you need a quick reaction time to capture a moment. Any of these conditions and you'll get average images from a camera phone.

Right, anyone who disagrees with you must hate America.

An article in the Guardian last year by a journalist who lives in Connecticut. Headline - "The TSA's mission creep is making the US a police state"

Let me guess, you're American?
analog··on Why Should I Care That No One’s Reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev His Miranda Rights?
Actually the Spanish Inquisition used similar methods, including waterboarding [1]. Certainly some of the US prisoners have been tortured to death [2].

analog··on Why Should I Care That No One’s Reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev His Miranda Rights?
Well sure, you'd have to actually be seriously planning to commit the crime to be prosecuted for it.
analog··on Why Should I Care That No One’s Reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev His Miranda Rights?
Yup, conspiracy was just the first example that came to mind. The actual class of crimes is inchoate offences (found after some brief googling).

analog··on CipherCloud used DMCA Takedown on StackExchange discussion of their cryptography
Oh I don't have a solution, was just pointing out how the penalties for DMCA abuses end up not being enforced. I actually agree that DMCA takedown notices are surprisingly efficient.
analog··on CipherCloud used DMCA Takedown on StackExchange discussion of their cryptography
But what are the 'actual damages' in this case, it would be hard to argue a monetary damage to Stack Exchange. So the most you could 'win' from CipherCloud for their abuse would be your legal costs. Hard to justify taking that action.
analog··on Why Should I Care That No One’s Reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev His Miranda Rights?
Lucky for people planning crimes I guess, unlucky for the rest of us.

Edit: Your claim that this is limited to mainly English speaking countries is not even true.

"Most nations prosecute inchoate acts (such as conspiracy and incitation) in their domestic criminal law."

analog··on Why Should I Care That No One’s Reading Dzhokhar Tsarnaev His Miranda Rights?
Conspiracy is already a crime. Your cucumber example wouldn't attract a response because nobody actually cares enough to prosecute it. For example if your cucumber was made of solid goal then you would become a target of preventive action.

analog··on Danny Sullivan's Twitter list about Watertown
There are current reports that the suspects are Chechyan, not the missing guy. Way too early to know who they are, even for the police.

There have been a few of these cases, but they all (iirc) have been started by traditional media rather than the internet mob.

In fact the mob in this case seems to be showing a lot of common sense with top voted comments like the parent here urging caution.

analog··on A Better Development Workflow with Vagrant
Yup, this works with Rubymine and Vagrant. Set this up today for myself. Took a bit of fiddling to get it to work, Ruby 2.0 seems a bit flaky to debug, 1.9.3 works well.
analog··on Linode hacked, CCs and passwords leaked
Very true. If your bank gives you a separate savings account you can transfer the bulk of your money there and just use the card from the current account to limit your exposure.
analog··on Rape Case Solved By Anonymous in Less Than 2 Hours Despite "No Evidence"
She was vomiting in the photo, that's pretty good evidence of that level of intoxication. The accused was also clearly recognisable[1] in the photo so it beggars belief that they could think there wasn't sufficient evidence.

[1] “because he is easily recognizable in a photograph showing him raping the victim while she is visibly ill… why the RCMP decided these photographs aren’t evidence of rape is beyond us.” http://www.salon.com/2013/04/12/anonymous_on_rehtaeh_parsons...

"I'm proud to say that 15-17 years old girls can be hot, and I can feel attracted to them."

throwawayG9 is stating that they are proud to be a paedophile. Personally I'd feel a little wrong about dating an 18 year old girl, but a 15 year old girl is most definitely a child.

Yes, I think it's wrong to have sex with children. And to be 'proud' of wanting to.

Well sure, but you could back that up with data[1]. With the innovation index the data apparently disputes your gut feeling. So which do you trust?

Maybe it's different in Canada but in the UK being that drunk would be very strong evidence that you were in no state to give consent. If you have sex with someone who's so drunk they don't know what they're doing that's rape.
