I'll be the first to admit that I'm not sure, but looking at the average gas price in Ontario (no cap and trade), Quebec (cap and trade) and Canada on [1], the same kinda of savings existed all around, so we can't really credit the removal of the cap and trade. Overlaying the price of cure, it does seem to have had more to do with the massive price drop in crude.

I don't believe that's actually the case that cameras have better dynamic range than humans. From what I've seen human vision is definitely in the 20+ stop range. It's especially doubtful that cameras that are cheap enough to put on an autonomous system would get anywhere near that.

In the "The Right Stuff" by Tom Wolfe, he mentions quite a few situations where the Mercury astronauts would visit factories and facilities in charge with building various components, and in all of these cases there was the same gist of "be really careful with your work or these nice young boys could die." So this practice existed from the very beginning of the American space program.

I wonder if any of that still happens these days. Probably way less now when American astronauts hitch a ride on the Soyuz.

How would one train a dog to do something like the Hands Up routine? I've never had a dog, so I'm not sure how I'd get the whole motion across to the dog.

I've had the same Dell for the past 5 years, an XPS 17. I've had a few problems with it: - dead hard drives (after 3.75 and 4.5 years) which I don't find too bad, as they have both been used heavily. - dead power circuit board - another internal board where some things got desoldered as it had a bout of high fever for a while

For all of these I had the next day on site support, and a tech came over and fixed stuff every time with no problems. Now that I'm switching to a MacBook, I'm actually kinda sad to be potentially parting with the computer while it's getting fixed.

As often as this gets recommended, I'd go with Introduction to Algorithms (CLRS)[1]. I'm currently in the process of going through it on my own as I'm taking a semester off, and I find it perfect to study from. It goes in depth, explaining the math behind run times (which some may like about it, while other might not), and it covers a lot of ground. I haven't fully finished it, and I'm only on chapter 6, but so far it's one of my favourite textbooks to study from.

In some cases, a company could transcend its initial purpose, but still keep it around as a/the revenue stream as a means to the new end. Not many/any new and further out there Google initiatives have made it to wide scale public adoption, so it's yet unclear whether Google would be such a company, but it could very well turn out to be one.
