ajmarsh··on [dead]
UNIX V4 operating system was found on a 9-track magnetic tape at the University of Utah.
ajmarsh··on Paste without formatting on macOS
Except for all the apps where it's "command shift option V" which is like trying to deliver a Vulcan nerve pinch.
ajmarsh··on Paste without formatting on macOS
This solution seems to only work in certain places. For example, it's not working in MS Word. Also, why is it "shift command V" in some places and "shift option command V" in others?
ajmarsh··on Passkeys: The beginning of the end of the password
Nothing prevents anyone from creating an open-source implementation of the FIDO server/services.

ajmarsh··on Lego Battle of Verdun [video]
Who makes the lego Chauchat? That was a pretty nice detail.

ajmarsh··on Down the mechanical keyboard rabbit hole
All I want to know is why is it every cool key cap set I find is sold out?
ajmarsh··on Why do dogs tilt their heads? New study offers clues
It’s interesting some poker players before making a ridiculous bluff will look up and to the right.
ajmarsh··on Vintage Byte Magazine Library
I love the cover art of the early editions. They really were things of beauty at least to me.

ajmarsh··on Monkey.org
Many of the monkey.org and deathstar.org folks all worked for the same IT help desk at UofM which at the time was called "Facilities" best job I ever had. We are still looking for that stolen box of t-shirts!
ajmarsh··on Show HN: Ajour – A GUI application in Rust to manage World of Warcraft addons
Nice, any chance you would expand it to manage Elder Scrolls Online addons as well? Great work.
ajmarsh··on My wife recently passed away. I used my time off to build her a giant bookshelf
Start simple. Find a project on YouTube that looks interesting and go for it. For the tools yeah they can be expensive. For me I buy v1 at Harbor Freight for cheap. If I use it enough to break it time for v2 from Snap-On, Dewalt, Milwaukee.

First project I ever did was a workbench. It's a great first project as you can use it for all of your future projects. Have fun.

ajmarsh··on Study shows proof that a safer UV light effectively kills virus causing Covid-19
Yes when the majority of what you say is untrue, people have a tendency to discount your recommendations.
ajmarsh··on Lord of the Manor: a medieval city builder game
Looks cool, but for us filthy casuals could you add a tutorial? Thanks.

ajmarsh··on MaXX Interactive Desktop: A Re-Implementation of the IRIX Interactive Desktop
Most of the early image guided surgery systems were powered by SGI's as well.
ajmarsh··on Prowords
My personal favorite from my time in the Marines didn't seem to make the list. Interrogative. Nothing more frustrating than to ask a time-sensitive question and be met with silence.
ajmarsh··on The death of corporate research labs
The book "The Idea Factory: Bell Labs and the Great Age of American Innovation" is a great story about the history of Bell Labs and how the anti-trust suit effectively killed it.
ajmarsh··on Cliff Stoll, the mad scientist who invented the art of hunting hackers
The systems Cliff Stoll was responsible for at Lawrence Berkeley National Labs were part of the Human Genome Project, not a weapons program.
ajmarsh··on I spent 22 years in prison for a crime I didn’t commit
Just to amplify the point, seriously guilty or not do not talk to the police.

ajmarsh··on Off-Grid Cyberdeck: Raspberry Pi Recovery Kit
Love that tiny keyboard, but where is the space bar?
ajmarsh··on The Real Reasons I Don’t Hire You
Counterpoint: Most start-ups are going to have crunch times periodically where extra effort is called for. At least if they are trying to solve an ambitious problem. I doubt she is talking about a 24/7/365 death-march.
ajmarsh··on 20,000 Startup Ideas
"Splice or solder cables together or to overhead transmission lines, customer service lines, or street light lines, using hand tools, epoxies, or specialized equipment."

No...no no don't do that you will stand a good chance of being electrocuted.

ajmarsh··on Minnesota Will Pay Residents to Grow Bee-Friendly Lawns
Michigan checking in, 20 acres not that big really.
ajmarsh··on GM and Fiat Chrysler Unmasked as Tesla’s Source of Cash
Some of these trucks are being driven solo by people who live on an onion farm just FYI. Also, my truck gets better mileage than a Giulia. I live in the midwest and sure there are guys who don't need a truck but most of us do.
ajmarsh··on Musk Can’t Dodge Tesla Cash Woes Any Longer
I don't think it's that far off at all.
