aio2··on A video game where you are an operating system
That's what computers are for, doing the repetitive stuff without freaking out for you :)
aio2··on Learning produces a hippocampal cognitive map in the form of a state machine
That's something I do too, but a bit modified: instead of going to someone about a problem, we try and figure it out instead, and if we can't, we go and ask help while explaining our original solution.
aio2··on Show HN: There are over a thousand possible finger arrangements for your hands
Was it intentional that when I clicked until I get two the first time, the hands greeted me with middles fingers?
aio2··on The US government is taking a step toward space-based nuclear propulsion
I remember learning that when they started testing atomic bombs (I think?) the nuclear debris in the air spread basically throughout the whole united states and the government tried to keep quiet about it. Something similar will probably happen here if they mess up with the launch.

Btw, the video I saw was on Veritasium.

aio2··on I'm 17 and wrote this guide on how CPUs run programs
The fact that you're impressed makes me impressed.
aio2··on How to stop the “login with Google” pop up window?
What happens if you click it 1002 times, then? Does another sheep explode?
aio2··on Ask HN: What's the coolest physical thing you've made?
Goddamn that's pretty crazy
aio2··on Internet Explorer is EVIL! (2002)
The question is: who still wants to use Internet Exploder?
aio2··on IronOS: Open-source soldering iron firmware
Well, if you get something cheaper and of less quality, there's a higher chance that if you mess up, as a newbie, it'll be harder to figure out what the problem is.

It could be just faulty, or it could be a mistake on your end.

Edit: Reading the other comments, it seems I'm mistaken about this.

aio2··on Ice core scientists in East Greenland reach bedrock
This is more for oil drilling, but this is a possibility. https://www.drillingformulas.com/fishing-drill-pipe-procedur...
aio2··on US smartphone shipments fall sharply, but Android more than iPhone
From experience, the type of people who judge you on that aren't the ones worth dealing with.
aio2··on Watch TV from the 90s and earlier
Ah yes, what I truly wanted.
aio2··on Environmental Discs of Tron Roadside Pickup
I feel bad for her sister.
aio2··on X tells advertisers to spend $1k per month or risk losing verification status
From 8 to 1000... that's quite the jump.

And now look at what they got.
aio2··on Kids Online Safety Act is still a danger to our rights online
I know I'm stating the obvious, but we're screwed.
aio2··on Farmer ordered to pay $CAD82k after confusion over meaning of thumbs-up emoji
that thumb was worth 82k, holy shit
aio2··on Twitter’s legal letter to Meta: a guided tour of a weak litigation letter
lol
aio2··on Tuesday set an unofficial record for the hottest day on Earth
Well I'll be damned. First Monday, and now Tuesday.
aio2··on France passes bill to allow police remotely activate phone camera, microphone
Gonna have to agree to disagree.

I feel it's significantly better to know that someone is doing the spying and all that. Why should they hide that they can spy on whoever they choose? When they don't make clear what happens, we end up in a position where everyone's uncertain. And, as history has shown, it makes things significantly more difficult.

There's no decency in that.

aio2··on Backend of Meta Threads is built with Python 3.10
Finally, a difference between the two.
aio2··on Threads has passed 2M sign ups in the first 2 hours
Just found this:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/07/06/threads...

aio2··on Threads has passed 2M sign ups in the first 2 hours
This is 'in the first two hours'. We gotta give it another 2 weeks
aio2··on A human just defeated an AI in Go. Here's why that matters
It reminds me of one of Murphy's Law saying that an amateur is more dangerous than a professional since they are more unpredictable.
aio2··on Anatomy of a Firework (2002)
Those videos were truly beautiful.
aio2··on Threads, an Instagram app
It reminds me of the social media BeReal.

Similar logo, black and white.

aio2··on Threads, an Instagram app
You could honestly be right.
aio2··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
It's cause some people are so fucking stupid
aio2··on YouTube is testing a more aggressive approach against ad blockers
Uhm... Youtube still puts in ads for those videos, regardless of whether or not the creator wants to.
aio2··on 2/3 of men choose partners like their mothers
I like that mentality
