agrona··on Nintendo 2DS
The 3DS is within a few mm in dimensions of the DS Lite.

What would a "DS Lite-style" 3DS look like?

agrona··on Nintendo 2DS
I am assuming this is a serious comment.

The answer is no, the 3DS is significantly different on the inside (processor, RAM, NAND) than a DS (or DSi).

The IPL is also significantly better (and is even OS-like). And there's a store.

Nb: I work for Nintendo.

agrona··on Papers, Please - A Dystopian Document Thriller
I appreciated that Republia shows up in Papers, Please. Didn't realize they were the same author.

OT a bit: I remember reading the code and turning my nose up at some of the implementation specifics. But then I remembered that he's the one shipping and getting things done.

agrona··on Anatomy of a pseudorandom number generator – visualising Cryptocat's buggy PRNG
John Cook has some interesting material on testing PRNGs in his chapter for the book Beautiful Testing. His material is (was?) online free, here: http://www.johndcook.com/blog/2010/12/06/how-to-test-a-rando...
agrona··on Texas teen makes violent joke during video game, is jailed
IANAL, but as I understand it, in order for the courts to consider this a "true threat", the government must prove (beyond reasonable doubt) that the it was intended to be taken seriously (the subjective test), or a reasonable person familiar with the context would interpret it as a serious threat (the objective test).

Here's a case of almost the same thing happening in CA, from December of 2012: http://www.popehat.com/2012/12/18/the-true-threat-doctrine-i...

agrona··on "Microsoft engineer" on Xbox1
As someone who works in Redmond, the details of Microsoft's gigantic food court thing aren't exactly private.
agrona··on Startup Transparency (Founder Salary) - An Interview with Buffer Founder
This reminds me of Fog Creek's compensation transparency.

agrona··on How Google Authorship decreased our traffic by 90%
To be clear, my coworker doesn't run thisiswhyimbroke, but a site with a similar layout.

It's a little extra money in his pocket, but not something profitable or rewarding enough to do full time. (He also has a few other attempts that don't do as well as the camping one, and with the camping one the income is pretty seasonal).

agrona··on How Google Authorship decreased our traffic by 90%
>Why on earth would anyone want a face associated with a program, website, or anything that's not a social media account?

A coworker runs one of those aggregate-amazon-affiliate-link sites (think http://www.thisiswhyimbroke.com/) for camping and outdoorsy things. He saw a noticeable increase in traffic by associating his wife's picture in his search results. He's of the opinion that a pretty face helps sell things.

agrona··on Collection of the best fonts for programming
Proggy has a variant with a slashed 0. Can't see I've ever seen a 7 or Z with a slash in it, though.
agrona··on Don't send me a message to tell me I have a message
I think I've only ever seen this from banks or medical organizations, where the annoyance is a little more acceptable.

I'd much rather they send me an (encrypted) e-mail, but I understand why they can't.

agrona··on We used to sleep twice each night
This reminds me of how the British Navy forgot the cure to scurvy after 150 years. http://idlewords.com/2010/03/scott_and_scurvy.htm
agrona··on What Really Killed the Dinosaurs?
This is the first I've heard of the Deccan Traps. Interestingly, they're "almost" on the opposite side of the globe from the Chicxulub impact (21'N 90'W to 17'N 77'E).

I wonder if their formation or activity might have been caused by the impact?

agrona··on How I Force Myself to Take Breaks
When I first started learning dvorak, my passwords consisted of a,m, the numbers and ~ (these keys are in the same positions as they are on QWERTY).
agrona··on Victims of Revenge Porn Mount Class Action Suit Against GoDaddy and Texxxan.com
This is all to true in a lot of cases. I regret there aren't more organizations like the Center for Class Action Fairness who object to ridiculous terms where lawyers just "cash out", often leaving the class with very little.

agrona··on Stripe Checkout
I don't think I've ever seen a demo card that doesn't accept any valid string for expiration/name/CVC.
agrona··on How Tealeaf Academy increased student engagement 3x
Can users start a new thread via e-mail? What would that look like?
agrona··on I want the world to scroll this way
I too am a dedicated highlight-reader, precisely because it's so easy to lose my place when scrolling. I found myself reading somewhat slower (perhaps due to trying to understand what was going on and how it worked), but I wasn't clicking the mouse maniacally, either.
agrona··on Finding and Fixing a Five Second Stall
I suspect the author means viable for video games, not software. I don't have any proof of this, just the dearth of large-budget games make their way to Mac.

Fire drills strike me as an infrequent yet important safety measure. Unless it's some management term I don't understand?
agrona··on How I Gamified the Google Interview
I'm generally not one to get excited about the concept of gamification. However, I thought the variable reward stuff was novel and interesting (and obvious, in hindsight).
agrona··on Show HN: an app to help your family be on time
One of the reviews mention android, which is apparently where the prototype is. It's unclear to me, though: is this only for iOS now?
agrona··on Washington voters approve legalized marijuana
In WA, the Sales tax on liquor is 20.5% (plus the per-liter tax)
agrona··on Learning C with gdb
gdb is one of those tools that I regret never learning because I've always had an IDE. I was able to follow the examples here well enough, but the array assignment causes gdb to crash in Cygwin. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to overcome that (short of installing a vm & a real linux)?
