agonzalezro··on Ask HN: If you were to build a web app today what tech stack would you choose?
Phoenix & its Liveview. Backed by Postgres or even SQLite for some use-cases.
agonzalezro··on Show HN: Isketo.com to quickly know if a recipe you are reading is keto or not
Yes. With a banned ingredients list we have a good & quick first impression. I have plans for it that can improve the accuracy a lot but it will also require much more work and I want to validate it first.

Thanks for the interest!

agonzalezro··on Gordon: Serverless Architecures Using AWS Lambda
I made a small Telegram bot with it. Basically it's a cron(ed) lambda that get GBP to EUR exchange rate and sends it to me via telegram every day.

The process was seamless and the money that I pay for having this running in my AWS is close to 0 :D

agonzalezro··on Monitor and Log your Docker containers from a container with packetbeat
Hi! I wrote the post, if you have something to ask, feel free! :)
agonzalezro··on Show HN: Hnwatch – Linux x64 terminal-based real-time HN watcher/reader
Done. Awesome image! Thanks for sharing :)
agonzalezro··on Show HN: Hnwatch – Linux x64 terminal-based real-time HN watcher/reader
I made a docker image for this: https://github.com/agonzalezro/docker-hnwatch

If you want to run it: docker run -it agonzalezro/hnwatch

I don't know why but hnwatch doesn't look like working ATM. I've tried in a Linux box (without docker) and I have the same problem with the tty, it's just loading 4 news and no comments or similar.

agonzalezro··on Golang UK Conference Schedule
For Go (the meetup), we will always create the events here: http://www.meetup.com/Go-London-User-Group/

For the conferences... you can expect a Golang conf next year :) But I don't really see any centralised place. I usually keep up to date about them with my twitter feed.

agonzalezro··on A Code of Conduct for the Go community
Since the CoCs started to be a thing I always though that they were unnecessary because I growth with the mantra: "do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Said that, sadly, this doesn't seem to be a true statement in tech and a CoC doesn't hurt. I am ok with Go getting one if it's going to make people feel more welcomed on the community.

agonzalezro··on Concern about racism and sexism in Supertuxkart 0.9
Closed here: https://lists.debian.org/debian-women/2015/05/msg00024.html

But it looks like there is some noise around it in other places.

agonzalezro··on Google Font Effects
WordArt is back!
agonzalezro··on How to Install Ubuntu Linux on your Dell PC
As far as I know they are directly coming from Dell. That's the "breaking" part of this manual, that a retailer as big as them are trying to explain how to get rid of Windows and just install a Linux distro.
agonzalezro··on CloudFlare “Interview Questions”
Well, I know that there are "interview questions", but they are trying to show us the kind of knowledge that is needed to join a Company as Cloudfare so I am pretty sure that some of those are going to be questions in some point of their interview process.

I just wanted to know that in case that the questions are formulated that way, what's the ratio of people that can successfully answer those.

agonzalezro··on CloudFlare “Interview Questions”
I've mentioned it on the blogpost but: Do you have some metrics about the success of your candidates replying to those questions?

agonzalezro··on ‘Try on Desktop’ Button for Docker Hub
I think that soon we will see private (and painful to install) applications running without effort & transparently into Docker containers.
agonzalezro··on AWS Summits 2015 – London: Session Recordings and Slides
Hi @unomole.

Following the "Play" icon you can see the Youtube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCT-nPlVzJI-ccQXlxjSvJmw Perhaps the video that you want is already uploaded but not linked from there (S. Francisco talks or something).

Good luck!

agonzalezro··on A homeless man learned to code and became famous; one year later, he stopped
Completely agree. When you are completely down is more difficult to keep the wheel moving than when it has some inertia.
agonzalezro··on A homeless man learned to code and became famous; one year later, he stopped
I can not believe that people decide to live that way, but you can be right though.

Perhaps the rewards coming of development were not as quick as doing a dirty job for X hours to get Y dollars?

agonzalezro··on Redis 3.0.0 is out
The author wrote this on twitter: https://twitter.com/antirez/status/583279481453936640

"p.s. no April fools here. 1 year ago I released HyperLogLog, today 3.0.0, just to contrast with some shit done this April fool lameness."

agonzalezro··on Redis 3.0.0 is out
It's software. Everybody knows how it works :)
agonzalezro··on Redis 3.0.0 is out
For lazy readers: CLUSTERING!
agonzalezro··on Windows 1.0 emulator
It actually supports more profiles: http://copy.sh/v86/ (for example running a Solaris or an Arch Linux)
agonzalezro··on Polls in Slack
Nice idea, but really difficult to follow all those steps.

I remember to have a plugin like that on Hubot for Hipchat time ago.

agonzalezro··on The Golang UK Conference – 2015
Nice! I will see you there
agonzalezro··on FinTech Companies vs. Retail Banks, Round 1
Google Banks is something that scares me... A LOT. I use almost all of their services because I love them, but I don't think that I would go for a bank account as well.
agonzalezro··on Ask HN: Your lead developer got bored. What to do?
Well, there are business constraints that doesn't allow you to investigate those fractal of unsolved problems.

Imagine that your work 9 to 5 is creating some CRUD forms, and your company gets payed because you create those forms so, start investigating by your own is not a chance anyhow -> YOU GET BORED and you can not change the situation just by yourself.

agonzalezro··on Buckets of Water
That would be a cool project. Sometimes you need to explain a concept that is difficult for non techies and you don't know how.

Actually, it should be useful as well the other way around. When they talk to me about finance concepts and stuff I get properly lost :D

agonzalezro··on Buckets of Water
I also know an example to explain the arithmetic mean. I have read it somewhere but I don't remember the exact book.

"If I have 2 chickens and you don't have any chicken, in average we both have a chicken, but you are going to be hungrier than me."

agonzalezro··on Graph your meetup.com group with Neo4J and some Go
I am the author, if you want to something about the article, here I am :D
agonzalezro··on Configura – Store all your Go configuration in environment variables
Wow, adding templating there is a good idea :)

I usually did that with puppet in my previous job to create different confs per server/stage.
