aft42··on Ask HN: What did your 'Show HN' project turn into?
I'm not epileptic or anything, but the background graphic was making me nauseous, not figuratively nauseous, but actually, physically nauseous. I couldn't make it past the nausea!

(I've never had a response like this before! Out of curiosity, I opened it up again after writing the first paragraph, and yep - waves of nausea with some not so subtle vertigo thrown in the mix!)

aft42··on I’m a black man – What happened when I booked an Airbnb
My point is just that there are a lot of people who reward known racists - so putting a label such as "I'm an anti-gay bigot" would reinforce people who think this is appropriate, which can result in even scarier things - things like having a person who is "overwhelmingly perceived as a con artist" being nominated as the Republican party's presidential nominee.

>need public exposure for the full consequences of their beliefs to be realized

Yeah, Trump is certainly realizing the full consequence of his beliefs.

There is an option to try a polyfil version, which seems to be working.

Producers are not necessarily consumers.

One of the most narcissistic people I know writes quite prolifically, but can't be bothered to read more than a paragraph or so of somebody else's writing.

aft42··on Finland considers basic income to reform welfare system
Yes, the "with a part-time job and being frugal" was a critical part of my post that @adventured clearly missed. Thank you for highlighting it.
aft42··on Finland considers basic income to reform welfare system
> completely prohibitive for eg. raising a family

But if it's an unconditional guaranteed income, i.e. each member of the family is making it, then it shouldn't be a problem. For example, a single mother with two kids would get her 500 EUR/month plus 500 EUR/month for each kid, bringing in a total of 1500/month for the family. While this certainly isn't massive, with a part-time job and being frugal, it should enable her to pay the bills.

In fact, I have yet to find an actual Amazon[1] on amazon.com, although I have found books about them [2].

I'm not sure how this actually helps keep your anonymity. I would suggest setting up a temporary email address (there are many services for this purpose - https://duckduckgo.com/?q=temporary+email)

aft42··on George Soros May Face a $6.7B Tax Bill
> "At a time of massive wealth and income inequality, we need a progressive tax system in this country which is based on ability to pay," Sanders said last month in Washington. "It is not acceptable that a number of major profitable corporations have paid zero in federal income taxes in recent years, and that millionaire hedge fund managers often enjoy an effective tax rate which is lower than the truck drivers or nurses." - http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/29/politics/bernie-sanders-announ...

>The saying that it takes 10,000 hours to master something may or may not be true but is indisputably popular (which is often an attribute of true ideas).

The 10,000 hours comes from empirical research on expertise, spearheaded by Anders Ericsson - http://www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=anders+e...
