afsina··on Project Shield
At the end, if nation states are helpless on preventing this, and only being part of the problem, I say this - our benevolent feodal overlords - is the preferable solution.
afsina··on Project Shield
Better than nation states.

Relative decrease in WER is not so significant for lower percentages. How about "we make 6 errors on 100 words but Kaldi makes 7".

Sure they can be. Also cults ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_subway_sarin_attack ) and atheists (Countless far leftist militant suicide bombings or attacks).
afsina··on Fuchsia, a new operating system
Probably you mixed Flutter with Dart.
afsina··on Fuchsia, a new operating system
No, flutter is still in tech preview mode. There are working example demos in the codebase but that's it. I have no idea on their release schedule but my guess is that Q1 of 2017 can be a target for a beta release.

Albeit flawed, some sees monarchies as being superior to democracies.

afsina··on Hello from Orkut
I think in some contexts using word "farklı" (different) may imply the meaning. However, in the Turkish version of the article this is not the case.

Most proper word for "gay" in Turkish is "eşcinsel". He should have used it. "gay" is also used as a loan word in informal speech.

IMO, even though in general movement has nationalistic tendencies, It cannot be said "they are not fond of Kurds" (as an ethnicity). However, their agencies were making a lot of negative press on the last peace process. Also, they were quite likely behind exposing secret peace meetings and mass detaining of kck members in (if I recall correctly) 2010. Apparently Kurdish problem was one of the main issues of conflict.

There are more serious evidence to consider than a clueless random TV reporter's blunder. I will say statements of many captive officers and government workers but I guess you will say they are fabricated. A former police (who was fired because of a link with them) was found in a coup tank with army suit. You will say it was his personal vendetta. There are recordings of people hinting the event a month ago in public domain. Then you will say it is just not apparent. Bias is a problem but I think evidence so far is quite clear.

About those stories, search deeper for their sources.
afsina··on “Turkey coup plotters' use of 'amateur' app helped unveil their network”
Claiming being not part of a coup is something else. I have yet to see a coup official claiming it was a fake or orchestrated by the government.
afsina··on “Turkey coup plotters' use of 'amateur' app helped unveil their network”
Did I say they were involved? Most likely they were clueless. I meant once the the decision makers of the movement are even slightly involved with this, people will blame it all. This is a natural reaction. Besides, on the flip side, movement has more serious `group think` issues than others.
afsina··on “Turkey coup plotters' use of 'amateur' app helped unveil their network”
Can you blame people? That is a consequence they should have been thought of before being involved with a coup.
afsina··on “Turkey coup plotters' use of 'amateur' app helped unveil their network”
According to the article, they abandoned using the application several months ago after they understand that it is compromised.

Very few of the army generals were his supporters. From now on surely numbers will go up. But it is clear that for more than 20 years it was Gulen who put his followers to police force, army and all state departments (especially justice) semi-secretly. It was a network of people who collected information and kept things moving according to their agenda.

Besides, there are sensible explanations why his plane was not shut down etc. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_Turkish_coup_d%27%C3%A9ta...

it was their previous try. It probably contained legitimate claims mixed with stuff that fit their agenda. Now hopeless, they tried their last chance and failed miserably.

Events of end of 2013 and 2014 were not about Gezi protests. This is about the corruption scandal and claims. Wikipedia link (Although probably quite biased) :

Guardian and NYT are trying hard to support that theory because they have their axes to grind against Erdogan, no doubt about it.

That aside, I do not think being the brother of a former vice president means anything when there are overwhelming more evidence supporting Gulen hypothesis. Read press in Turkey (critical to Erdogan) for what I mean. I am still trying not to suggest Gulen movement is violent, but they did screw up on this one. He will also be responsible for the ramifications of this.

Your statement "happy to kill Kurds" is also absurd. I am not at all supporting nationalist tune of the government but come on, PKK started the fire by filling the streets of poor Kurdish towns with tons of explosives and detonating them without hesitation, putting Ak-47's to the hands of teenagers and forcing and threatening civilians to stay, destroying their houses and using them as human shield. I have zero sympathy to PKK for what they did to their own people.

In the Last election Erdogan's `party` had 49.5% of votes with %85.18 turnout.
afsina··on Turkish academics: Remain silent or risk all
10% is a major over estimation. I would say 2-3%. Also you clearly have no idea on how this kind of structures work.

The events of 2013-2014 that solely aimed overthrowing Erdogan were undeniably controlled by Gulen movement. However they lost the battle big time.

One or two weeks before the coup, some army officials in Izmir were detained linked with a previous army spy case and they were linked to Gulen. The supreme military council was about to be happening with the agenda of sacking multiple army officials related with him.

IMO, coup was not solely planned by Gulen, but they were involved significantly.

Lastly, again, check multiple coup officials' statements.

For quacking, http://www.city-journal.org/html/who-fethullah-gülen-13504.h... check paragraph of quotation from a Gulen's leaked speech.

For walking, multiple sources confirms that for years, they stole questions for army and police college entrance exams.

Of course also the statements of coup officials.

afsina··on Turkish academics: Remain silent or risk all
Statements are very detailed and fits the previously known inner workings of the movement. Sure there may be some modifications we never know. They just sound legit to me.

Actually it was not a friendship. Perhaps a mutually beneficial partnership. And things went downhill probably much before 2012, regardless of political speeches.
