aeonsky··on Why people leave companies
I know that point of view too - if you leave now, we would have to look very hard for a long time to replace you. We have many projects and you're the only one that knows X, however, we don't have the cash to offer you a raise, here are some more options for $0.001 each.

However, I usually found the minute you are inconvenient, you will be let go. Communication is important, but remember that businesses ALWAYS has their best interest in mind. Sometimes it is necessary to make tough decisions (bad for company, good for you - because you feel selfish) and quit a unwinnable situation.

aeonsky··on C4 – C in 4 functions
I am a junior dev without a ton of experience so correct me if I'm wrong, but I strongly disagree. Comments should explain "why" something was written. Wouldn't the function name indicate what you are doing (and comments in the function)? This is especially true in business logic.

reverseNaturalSortOrder(listOfItems); // case sensitive sort of items by reverse alphabetical order

or

reverseNaturalSortOrder(listOfItems); // sort this way because the upper layer expects items in reverse order since user requested it

I think it is usually significantly easier to understand what something is doing rather than why it is doing that. To answer the former it usually requires a narrow scope of focus, but the latter requires a very broad scope.

There is no right answer to that problem.

The Russian is terrible too, reads like Google translate. They left in the "silver bullet" idiom, which makes zero sense in Russian.
aeonsky··on How programmers should write their resumes
While I do agree with you somewhat, I'm willing to give up to be called an engineer by others to stop all of these new engineering disciplines from appearing: political engineering, social engineering, market engineering. With this logic you can apply engineering to anything you do. Engineering used to be a much nobler and much more respected calling, not so much anymore.
aeonsky··on How programmers should write their resumes
While it might make one feel better to call oneself an engineer (you're not, it is not one of the original engineering practices), a developer (I guess, is it any better though), guru, ninja, evangelist (rebranded words). There is absolutely no need for these names in the software context. All of these words are made for the touchy-feely Gen-Y'ers (which I am a part of). While everyone tries to make the word "programmer" a dirty word these days, I'm proud to call myself one. When I go into job descriptions, I would put "Helped architech...", "developed a...", "designed flow of...", and etc.

Or it is maybe just due to his quick visit with the nice people at Langley.

I pressed solve from the start, and the AI lost.
aeonsky··on Apple CarPlay
While in motion, a driver should maintain 100% of their focus on two things: direction and speed. Having to juggle another pedal and lever to make sure upcoming speed change would be suitable to the driver is unnecessary and a distraction. Modern cars perform gear changes good enough, at the worst. If you have a CVT, it is even better (but very expensive to buy/repair, I acknowledge that).

I still have yet to see these concrete user benefits.

I'd rather stay away from software jobs that want "rockstars" or "ninjas" or "gurus".

aeonsky··on Intel's "cripple AMD" function (2009)
I am usually not a free market extremist, but if Intel makes an excellent software product after years and millions of dollars in R&D, and make it only work for certain platforms, power to them.
aeonsky··on Intel's "cripple AMD" function (2009)
I'm still not entirely sure why is Intel forced to do this? Is it only because they advertise that it optimizes equally well for any CPU? If not, then I don't really see why they can force them to provide another AMD-friendly version.
aeonsky··on Git add -p
Or he could go with the much friendlier and less elitist: "feature you might not be aware of", "feature you might not be using yet".

Because the title provides a statement without any evidence and is downright condescending?

"Off-Topic: Most stories about politics..." and "If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic." If we go with your logic, I would start posting and upvoting news coming from TMZ and the latest Casey Anthony updates.
