adrianbye··on Dogs learn to drive in New Zealand
frans de waal is another along the same lines.

check out the two sides of evolutionary psychology - the bonobos and the chimpanezee. the bonobos are the feminine, nice, friendly monkeys that are dying out. the chimpanzees are warlike and aggressive and are quite strong. both are closely related to humans.

researchers will generally take one side or another depending on whether their views skew more to the left or the right

the page you links to cites one solo "debunking" study which was done by a guy named Dave Mech, who links to occupy wall street and likes "evolutionary biology and social justice": http://www.davemech.com/

people's personal views often influence research

adrianbye··on You don't have to be local
i left the bay area for the same reason
adrianbye··on You don't have to be local
or he's not, and this is a happy balance for him.

not everything is what you see on tv

adrianbye··on Poll: Do you select text while reading?
its called "stimming". i do it too
adrianbye··on How to stop hospitals from killing us
the problem is this method encourages hospitals and doctors to avoid taking the difficult cases.

lets say you have a complicated problem which only has a 25% success rate. but due to these statistical models, nobody will do the procedure for you, since it will skew their results. what do you do?

adrianbye··on Your Mechanic (YC W12) Wins TC Disrupt
i think its people like your GM friend that this startup is working to disrupt. a lot of backyard mechanics can do a great job very cheaply.
adrianbye··on 4 geeky laws that rule our world
i have a lot of confidence in reeds law and over time i think facebook will demonstrate how powerful it is (provided they keep things together well).

the fb business model may be fairly simple today but in the future it will expand and expand

adrianbye··on Released footage of the police raid on the Kim Dotcom mansion
why did kim go to the red room alone, presumably leaving his wife and kids to be handled by the intruders?
adrianbye··on The Challenge of Making Friends as an Adult
do you think he had aspergers?
adrianbye··on Elon Musk and the future of spaceflight
i thought both the question and answer was good, but it didn't need to be first. i don't like fluff interviews, its too easy for critical areas not to be discussed.

(i do quite a few interviews myself).

adrianbye··on IBM 1959 Job Post
its pretty hard to know what is important in the moment.
adrianbye··on Why I decided to skip college, and how I've fared (10 months later)
what people generally miss about dropping out of college is that guys like bill gates, mark zuckerberg, etc drop out because they are working on something that is turning out to be absolutely massive.

ie the alternative of staying in college was a small opportunity by comparison.

adrianbye··on Richard Stallman Was Right All Along
same for me, except around 2003. RMS is a difficult guy but he tends to be right.
adrianbye··on Happy New Year!
Happy new year from tasmania, australia
adrianbye··on Desperation: Go Daddy calling customers, begging them to stay
please let us know where you move to. i'm also disappointed by the lack of good options
adrianbye··on I'm turning 30 and I've produced no amazing art.
this isn't a big deal. just study project management and get really good at it. you'll learn how to execute well on projects and find yourself getting things completed
adrianbye··on Why Spotify can never be profitable: The secret demands of record labels
amazon may end up solving this problem for us by becoming a good distribution outlet for music
adrianbye··on The co-op business model: share whatever you've got
no, its real. and its a great way to test whether you have something with commercial value and build a userbase
adrianbye··on Don't dumb girls down
the social/behavioural problems of aspergers (autism spectrum disorder) are diagnosed in men at a 4x greater ratio than women.
adrianbye··on 30kloc and $0 revenue. Lessons from my failed startup (& code release)
this can be dangerous thinking.

sticking with a project that has no momentum for a long time can be a huge waste of time. better to focus on finding momentum as quick as possible either in the current project or abandon and find new one. there's a lot of interesting things to do in the world

adrianbye··on Introducing the New Commodore 64
maybe a smart MVP ;-)
adrianbye··on How Western Diets Are Making The World Sick
he can't support it.

you're discussing the concept of "empty calories", just like alcohol has.

adrianbye··on Patio11's perspective on the Japan Earthquake
excellent post and exactly what i suspected.

i think the news should steer back to the middle east and libya in particular right now; thats where things hang in the balance and can impact billions of lives.

adrianbye··on IPad 2 introduces new headphone jack
so this means my headphones will work now with VOIP sip calls on my ipad?
adrianbye··on Khan of Khan Academy at TED (video)
I worked with Sal when we were both at Oracle. one thing i think is that what he's doing with khan academy ties directly to his strengths.

he was very good at explaining and teaching, and liked analyzing data.

adrianbye··on SEO is no longer a viable marketing strategy for startups
#2 in santo domingo
adrianbye··on Ask HN: Please destroy my startup idea so I don't waste time on it
its a massive market. the problem is the targeting. how do you target ads appropriately? everyone wants the high CPM ads, but nobody knows how they will perform. and you have to do a separate mailing each time
adrianbye··on GroupOn, LivingSocial engaging in questionable practices
yeah but costco generally gets very good deals in place; i've cross checked it numerous times.

once groupon management catches wind of this it will be fixed; they can't afford the damage to their brand

adrianbye··on What it's like in Egypt: An email from my mom
they're just people. there's plenty of countries out there
