adar··on Funkwhale – Decentralized, self-hosted music server
You're aware that popular legal sites like BandCamp exist where musicians sell their albums in no-DRM mp3 format, right?
adar··on Launch HN: Doppler (YC W19) – Easily manage your env vars and secrets
Nitpicky typo alert on the pricing page:

> Doppler empowers engineers and their teams too quickly set up a secure way to store and manage their sensitive application secrets like API keys, database urls, certifications, etc... through a dashboard, API, and command line tool.

should be "to quickly".

Best of luck with the launch, I'll definitely try it out.

adar··on WSL Getting GUI Support
I can't speak for VirtualBox but I can confirm that VMware Player/Workstation do support Hyper-V now and are compatible with having WSL 2 installed simultaneously.

This information probably doesn't help you much if you're tied to VirtualBox though.

adar··on Dijo: A terminal-based habit tracker written in Rust
Looks like Iosevka to me.
adar··on Ubuntu Deepin Desktop Environment
AFAIK many (most?) Node devs completely ignore the version that comes with their OS and use something like nvm to manage their Node version(s) anyway.
adar··on New iPhone SE
All stores in the US do this, online or brick and mortar.
adar··on Cloudflare silently deleted my DNS records
I don't think he's saying that OP should've known to email him, just that he would've done the same thing over private emails where nobody was watching, as he is doing here publicly.
adar··on DigitalOcean is laying off staff
Have you looked into LightSail? It's AWS's DigitalOcean/Linode competitor pricing-wise.
adar··on DigitalOcean is laying off staff
This analogy would make more sense if it wasn't trivial to make and store exact clones of your apartment and its contents in minutes, if not seconds.

If Scaleway moved into North America I'd move more VPSes to them in a heartbeat.
adar··on A Sad Day for Rust
From what sklabnik's post says, patches were submitted but the author wasn't really receptive to them.
adar··on JetBrains: $270M revenue, 405K paying users, $0 raised
Just yesterday I noticed a "Fork Activation" option in the Fork menu with fields for an email and a license key. I think you might be right, it won't be free for much longer.
adar··on Low-Cost VPS Testing
LunaNode has been great, I just wish they had even one US location or something that wasn't on OVH's network.
adar··on Ask HN: Curious to know if people still use IRC?
I think they might no longer do this but for many years Linode's Atlanta location blocked access to IRC-specific ports, I believe because of a specific policy by their Atlanta datacenter.
adar··on Show HN: Cascadia Code, a Font for Windows Terminal and VSCode
> You need to be on the insider programmer which forces telemetry and means you have a PITA windows style upgrade every other week (and the nagging associated with it).

FWIW you can upgrade to the Fast Ring version of Windows that gets you WSL 2 and then switch to the Slow Ring that only gives you updates every month or so.

adar··on Show HN: Saag as a Service – macronutrient-portioned Indian spinach curry
Pretty sure almost everyone on this site can do basic multiplication, I'm not sure the aggressive "warning" is necessary.
adar··on Show HN: Saag as a Service – macronutrient-portioned Indian spinach curry
On their website they state at the top: "saag [/sa:g/] is an Indian curry of delicately spiced spinach and other greens"

I'm not sure if it was always there or done as a response to you.

adar··on Launch HN: Quirk (YC S19) – Open-Source Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
I wasn't able to make it to WaffleJS yesterday but I hope your talk went well! As someone who's dealing with anxiety about the job hunt/interviewing for my first tech job right now, I can definitely see myself using Quirk.

Best of luck.

"Doesn't happen to me, but you should deal with it."

Really inspiring stuff!

Not sure what GMusic is, but you should not be seeing ads on Youtube if you're paying for Youtube Music.

adar··on My dog was killed on a walk with a walker ordered through Wag
Test his hypothesis how, exactly? By putting a child and a dog into a disaster situation?

You seem to be overreacting hardcore. They didn't say it was like losing your mother. They said it was like losing family. There are many different types of relationships in families, some more or less important than others. I'm pretty sure you'd be more torn up about losing your pet who you see every day than hearing that a cousin you've seen twice in your life has passed.

What a weird thing to get worked up over.

adar··on Elementary OS – Fast, open, privacy-respecting replacement for Windows and macOS
With all due respect, that screenshot you linked looks straight out of 2008.
adar··on Nvidia announces RTX 2000 GPU series with ‘6x more performance’ and ray-tracing
> Better cancel my pre-order then...

I mean you're not countering his point in any way. He didn't say nobody would buy it, but it's a simple fact that most people can't afford or justify a thousand dollar GPU.

The vast majority of people buying Nvidia GPUs in the 10xx generation were going for 1060s and 1070s.

adar··on An extensive ZFS setup on MacOS
When I tried setting ZFS up on macOS, when I tried to set the ZFS pool as a network share through macOS's sharing panel any individual user permissions I set would not stay set after I closed out of the screen.

Is there another way of doing this that's recommended?

adar··on Poetry: Python dependency management and packaging made easy

I'm a neophyte at JS, what is the reason for all the code in /dist/index.js to be compacted into one line?
adar··on Show HN: Hyperlogs – Easy time tracking
You should state on the site that it's a beta/work in progress so people don't think it's a finished product and leave because you don't offer a feature they want yet.
