adar··on I accidentally loaned all my money to the US government
Are you sure you correctly read the post you're replying to?
adar··on Ask HN: What do you wish you had done/known in your 30s?
As someone who just turned 35 last week, thanks for this.
adar··on Cloudflare announces fourth quarter and fiscal year 2021 financial results

adar··on Why is LinkedIn so cringe?
My favorite riff on these is when the poster is headed to an interview but saves a dog along the way, and the dog turns out to be the interviewer.
adar··on XSuspender Auto-suspend inactive X11 applications
Yep! I speak from experience as an Indian.
adar··on XSuspender Auto-suspend inactive X11 applications
It's a Hindu/Buddhist swastika, which is still widely used by adherents of said religions.
adar··on Google Chromium, sans integration with Google
> So you say your current position is to be rather carefully around anything by/from Google, but you trust Internet randos to build the binary of the browser you use?

How did you come to this conclusion when they stated that they'd rather use Firefox? Or are you saying Mozilla are the internet randos?

adar··on FarPlay: Low-Latency Audio over the Internet
This is a good tip but unfortunately I'm on Windows on one computer and Fedora on the other.
adar··on FarPlay: Low-Latency Audio over the Internet
I've been looking for a simple way to be able to listen to audio from my desktop and laptop simultaneously without requiring a hardware mixer or something. I'm currently using Scream but there is a bit of latency/delay.

Farplay seems to be more for audio recording, but would Farplay be a good solution for my use case?

adar··on Microsoft Edge GA on Linux
> Edge has built in support for vertical tabs, tab groups, and chrome extensions.

IMO Vivaldi's implementations of vertical tabs and tab groups is superior, but Edge is definitely a close second.

adar··on Fedora 35
100% in agreement with you. I liked the idea of Manjaro but the way they deployed Nvidia driver updates made it feel like absolute luck of the draw whether you'd have a login screen waiting for you after rebooting post-update. I've had more Nvidia driver issues on Manjaro in a year than I've had in the past decade+ on Ubuntu or any other distro.

Switched to Fedora a week ago which I like a lot so far, but I still very much miss the AUR.

adar··on Backblaze S-1 IPO
I'd feel deeply uncomfortable backing up 80tb of data to a $60/year plan, tbh.
adar··on Mozilla to put ads in Firefox address bar suggestions
I like Vivaldi but the issue is that you're still locking yourself into Chromium's Blink rendering engine which just serves to strengthen Google's push to be the de-facto standards enforcer of the web.
adar··on Mozilla to put ads in Firefox address bar suggestions
I'm not quite sure scripted dialogue in a fictional TV show about murderous superheroes is the correct comparison for Mozilla putting ads in search results...
adar··on Hiawatha Webserver
Is there a non-North American context for the word "Hiawatha"?
adar··on Video streaming battery life improved from 12h (12 Pro Max) to 25h (13 Pro Max)
The comment was quickly flagged by other users and is now dead. I'm not sure the hysteria is warranted, you're never going to find a public site where nobody ever posts anything dumb.
adar··on Almost all of the top subreddits are moderated by the same people
It takes about 10 seconds to create a new Reddit account so it's the moderators who'd be fighting the uphill, impossible battle to keep someone banned.
adar··on Unity to acquire Parsec for $320M
And? They lose absolutely nothing by asking.
adar··on Give to Thunderbird

adar··on Windows Defender blocks qBittorrent
I hate being the kind of internet guy who's like "X sucks" about something a lot of people have worked on, but I really, really, really dislike Finder. It fails as a file explorer on several fundamental levels. For example network shares in Finder feel so tenuous and like they could break any instant. Sometimes after you sleep your Mac and wake it up, you have to reboot to be able to reconnect to a network share.
adar··on My app just got removed with no prior warning
What else would you call the Play Store on which the vast, vast majority of Android users acquire apps? Please don't bring up F-Droid or the Amazon App Store as alternatives, that's just a joke compared to the sheer volume of app installs (and more importantly, purchases) on the Play Store.
adar··on Resident Evil Village crack completely fixes its stuttering issues
Using something you consider "spyware", even without paying for it, sounds like just as much of a self-own.
adar··on Ask HN: Feeling guilty for doing the bare minimum at work
Being snarkily dismissive of mental disorders isn't a great look, especially when OP stated that they also went to therapy for anxiety/depression and also stated they work less now than they did before because they're able to properly focus.
adar··on Google suspending Parler from the Google Play store

adar··on Just Wanted to Say Thanks
Nothing's stopping you from praising people at other times, is it?
adar··on We read the paper that forced Timnit Gebru out of Google
> If you take a step back and read the snippet you cherry-picked

Cherry-picked? It's literally the first sentence, the central thesis of OP's entire "argument". If they can't get that down on paper correctly, they're not worth taking seriously.

> You would do well to work on your literacy and reading comprehension skills.

Ascribing unsubstantiated sentiments to someone's post in lieu of what they actually said doesn't fall under literacy or reading comprehension, sorry. It's actually the polar opposite of that.

Why are you claiming to know OP's intentions (despite their own words) better than everyone else here? Is OP your alt account?

> I don't expect honest and well-meaning people to continue insisting on this at this point. It feels that these attempts to distort what was said are simply attempts to attack the OP based on misreprentations of what he did said.

It's extremely bizarre that you're questioning the literacy of people when you're projecting your own unsupported sentiment to OP's post while simultaneously claiming that people who are directly quoting the OP's post verbatim are "misrepresenting" what OP said.

You're being very disingenuous here (as well as borderline manipulative) by trying to shut down any dissent against your flawed position by questioning the good faith of the people doing nothing but directly quoting the OP's words.

adar··on We read the paper that forced Timnit Gebru out of Google
> I didn't noticed the OP making any remark on the author's qualifications.

Did you not read the first sentence of OP's post?

"Ok, so basically she is a bullshit social engineer, masquerading as an 'AI ethics researcher'"
