adamvalve··on All design and engineering of the original Tesla Roadster is now open source
Interesting timing for such bullshit when this is on the front page of HN as well https://www.theverge.com/2023/11/21/23971138/tesla-gigafacto...
adamvalve··on Shell admits 1.5C climate goal means immediate end to fossil fuel growth
Good.
adamvalve··on Heart attacks on rise for 25-44 age group
What I find interesting is how many people rush to blame vaccines for this when the easier explanation, occums razor, is that the thing that killed +1m in the US has long term and secondary effects. Could it be the vaccine? Maybe because it isn’t impossible but let’s be reasonable and acknowledge we already know COVID caused blood clots and this is highly likely the culprit. I mean the damn virus was so weird and severe it caused temporary and delayed brain damage in the form of parosmia.
adamvalve··on US Department of Energy: Fusion Ignition Achieved
No need to pit them against each other. This achievement wasn't certain. Multiple paths towards a more sustainable future is better for everyone.
adamvalve··on Pedal Me bans staff riders from wearing helmets for safety reasons
Are we getting dumber as a nation? This feel like the mask thing.
adamvalve··on Ghost CEO lectures locked out customer about empathy
The YouTube issue you describe could be on purpose to limit abuse/gaming of the system. Since we don’t deal in YouTube’s moderation day to day we aren’t privy to the reasoning that feature was never developed. Maybe they did it early on and realized before they released it could be abused to make copies of your YouTube channel with slightly different language optimized for different search terms. Hard to say intent without working on it day to day. Sometimes things are hard on purpose because a small part of the population suck and will abuse a feature.
adamvalve··on Tesla’s headquarters will move to Austin
People have been pouring in to Austin for years and Austin has done nothing in terms of infrastructure. Traffic is a nightmare.
adamvalve··on Branson and crew reach space, return in runway landing
Seriously, most billionaires are so fucking boring. Imagine all the interesting things you could do. Most of them just buy homes and yachts. Who’s spending billions on a future tech iron man suit or building a utopia under the sea? Not that those are worthwhile but it would at least be interesting.
adamvalve··on America, Stop Moving West
If you move to Phoenix now and plan to live in your house for 30 years, then you are going to have a bad time because Phoenix will be unlivable if there aren’t drastic measures put in place. 118 is the ceiling now. Not the ceiling forever.
adamvalve··on Avoid News, Part 2: What the Stock Market Taught Me about News
Ignorance is bliss and all that
adamvalve··on Why Nuclear Power, Not Renewables, Is the Path to Low-Carbon Energy (2020)
Why does it always have to be one or the other? It’s silly.
adamvalve··on I don’t have time for coding challenges
Came here to share the same exact points. He’s making a lot of assumptions never being on the other side and actually interviewing lots of candidates. Most of the time I get half assed projects with bugs that are obvious and they haven’t ever made contributions to open source software as an alternative to the take home project.

I think the at home project is the most lenient way to test someone because they aren’t pressured to solve a problem on the spot, instead they are in the comfort of their own home and can reference whatever documentation they would need, just like they would in a real position.

adamvalve··on Mysterious illness that paralyzes healthy kids prompts plea from CDC
I have a coworker who's son just got this diagnosis. This stuff is scary. They caught it fast and were able to treat it but he still lost most control of his left arm. Long road to recovery but it seems some kids aren't as lucky.
adamvalve··on VW opens preorders for the ID.3, its first long-range electric car
If the interior is anything like my Tiguan... I would greatly prefer my Model 3 any day. I don't think the ID3 is going to come with a premium interior... haven't seen any photos of it so I could be wrong.

adamvalve··on Baked MacBook Air: A cautionary recipe
"cardiac surgery with a chainsaw" encapsulates this perfectly
adamvalve··on Tesla’s First-Quarter Deliveries Plummet
Who moved my cheese? It really isn't a huge deal. There is a divide that I notice, older people cling to buttons and younger people are fine getting rid of them. Is it dangerous? Hardly, I just wait till I stop if I need to adjust something that isn't on my steering wheel which is actually pretty rare.
adamvalve··on What the elite expect and receive from an Ivy League education

Fast Good Cheap. Choose two.
adamvalve··on Palmer Luckey Leaves Facebook
He was on the hook for 50m of damages in the Zenimax lawsuit. I wonder how much that eats away at his worth?
adamvalve··on GitHub commit search: “remove password”
This one seems to be a winner:

adamvalve··on Autopilot Full Self-Driving Demonstration [video]
Actually, i think in AP 1 they used MobileEye and Tesla has their custom software to compliment it and with the switch to AP 2 "It runs a Tesla-developed neural net for vision, sonar, and radar processing." https://cleantechnica.com/2016/10/25/inside-nvidias-new-self...

I also read another quote from the Tesla engineering team that "nearly all of it" (the data collected from AP 1) can be used for the new AP system https://electrek.co/2016/11/07/tesla-bought-1-million-data-s...

So it seems like the analogy is more akin to Xbox 360 and Xbox One, hardware got an upgrade but they were able to run Xbox 360 games on it with some work.

adamvalve··on Show HN: Robin – OpenTable for your office
This looks like something that would have been on Silicon Valley (TV Show)...
adamvalve··on Show HN: Kvpbase – a new way for developers to store data
This looks really neat! I took a look at your C# Sdk and it doesn't follow some of the standard C# conventions. Would you care if someone stepped in and helped with that? The naming conventions would make this Sdk stick out like a sore thumb in my source code.

adamvalve··on Be My Eyes – Lend your eyes to the blind
That is the first thought I had. The expectation here is that the blind need help, which may not be the case. The interesting thing to me was that the blind can "see" through echo location. Very cool stuff.
adamvalve··on KeySweeper – Arduino-based passive wireless keyboard sniffer
I recently switched back to usb Microsoft Natural keyboard for comfort from multiple versions of Microsoft wireless ergonomic keyboards but this hack makes me value the wire even more.
adamvalve··on Why I left my PM role at Microsoft
From when I went to interview with MS, the PM role was Program Manager.
