adambyrtek··on Humans hold the key to collaboration no matter how good the software tools
Sure, but is constant "direct attention" the best way to empower engineers? I would argue that systemic improvements (e.g. onboarding process, good documentation, team communication or company culture) are more impactful since they scale better and address the root of the problem. Of course, you need both, but saying that everything other than hand-holding is "just filler" shows a lack of understanding of good leadership.

Their handling of the Aaron Swartz case (rightfully) caused a massive hit to their reputation.

> Everything else about my job is basically just filler for whenever you don’t need my direct attention

That might be taking it a bit too far?

Sure, what I meant is that founder CEOs are not as irreplaceable as it might seem.

adambyrtek··on Internet spring cleaning: How to delete Instagram, Facebook and other accounts

"The data controller responsible for your information is Meta Platforms Ireland Limited, which you can contact online or by writing to:

Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd.

Grand Canal Harbour

The "contact online" link leads to the following form: https://help.instagram.com/contact/186020218683230

I would send the request both online and by tracked post with a proof of delivery. In the end your lawyer would do the same thing and charge for this at an hourly rate.

You don't need a lawyer to send a standard "right to erasure" GDPR request and they are required to respond within 30 days: https://gdpr.eu/right-to-erasure-request-form/
adambyrtek··on Success and Failure at Pebble
> No other smart watch had that feature, and (almost) no other smart watch has it today in 2022.

That's not really true, unless your definition of a smartwatch is limited to Apple/Android devices with LED displays. I use Garmin Fenix with a transflective display which lasts about 2 weeks on a single charge. However, like with Pebble, there are some tradeoffs: the display is not as bright (but clearly visible in the sun), it has less colors, and the screen resolution is lower.

adambyrtek··on Why enterprise software is bloated
I know this is just an anecdote, but a good developer wouldn't ask the manager to approve every small refactoring or expect them to understand the importance of "one method in SuperFactory". They would have instead made a judgement call and taken the responsibility of doing the quick fix.
adambyrtek··on Pocket migration to Firefox accounts
Instapaper after multiple acquisitions feels even more abandoned than Pocket.

I'm not sure this is a good metaphor since weapons are designed for violence, regardless of whether that violence is legally justified or not. Just to be clear, I'm not trying to make a political stand, this is simply the dictionary definition: "weapon /ˈwɛp(ə)n/ a thing designed or used for inflicting bodily harm or physical damage".

> Assume promotion after releasing 10 changes

Where did that assumption come from? Also are you claiming that it takes 10x more time to release a non-breaking change?

I guess you simply purchase the domain. Just like bit.ly which, as far as I know, doesn't have an entity in Libya.
adambyrtek··on Slack is down
I doubt that regularly releasing breaking changes that reduce uptime is a good strategy to get a bonus or promotion.
