access_denied··on Providing a high quality education to anyone, anywhere.
Sorry.
access_denied··on Using Game Mechanics To Teach Users MS Office
Play nethack.
access_denied··on The case against layoffs: they often backfire
SAP was founded by former IBM employees who weren't allowed to do the project inside of IBM.
access_denied··on Ask HN: Am I crazy to port my Rails app to PHP?
> I don't want to play sysadmin in my spare time collaborate with someone who does.
access_denied··on Ask HN: What should Microsoft do to get its mojo back?
That's what is wrong with MS: they lack vision. They need to focus on a compelling vision. All else comes from that.
access_denied··on Italy looking to kill user-generated content sites
Italy is strong in fashion and has a big market for motorcycles and mobile phones. That's it.
access_denied··on How A Student With $1,100, Launched Whitepages.com, A $57 Mil A Year Business
Drumsticks is a way forward from the usual stuff like mugs, t-shirts and so on.
access_denied··on This is the title of a typical incendiary blog post
This is the sentence in which I try to steer the thread back to he original topic. This sentence is my backup in which I blather unrelated, anecdotal stuff from my workplace, because it just popped into my head and I have the slight feel that my first sentence won't meet his purpose.
access_denied··on View facebook friend list (hidden or not hidden)
You know that saying "everyone knows everybody over 6 other people", maybe something about that. Or: who of your friend's friend's friend's has the same hobby / whatever.
access_denied··on Drucker on Apple
manage the costs == doing something about it
access_denied··on Google Twists Knife In IE6, Pulls Support From Docs And Sites
The irony is: nothing will put more cash in MS pockest than forcing those corporate lame-ducks to finally upgrade.
access_denied··on Drucker on Apple
Not controlled the whole economic chain, but knows and manages the costs of said chain. Switching over to Intel after Motorola proved itself unmanageable. Keeping OS development inhouse instead of buying from MS. These are managed costs.

Dell gets basically blackmailed by Wintel, Apple has an alternative for everything they buy.

access_denied··on The iPad Big Picture
Can't you use a form in iWork Numbers for that?
access_denied··on The Free Software Foundation's Reaction to the iPad Launch
Exactly that's why we should concentrate efforts on building up free alternatives. It's not that music discs, printed books and movie theater tickets were free before the advent of the PC. I believe the most important breaktrough for freedom (in regards to IT) is the personal cloud (or the houshold/street cloud).
access_denied··on Poll: Are you getting an iPad?
I am seriously thinking about the publishing aspects of it. You know, a content website is nice, but a "diskmag" can be a nice business too.
access_denied··on The Apple Tablet Is Here, And It's Called the iPad
No, it's the result of lazzyness of "journalists" who don't want to do research and come up with real content by themselves.
access_denied··on A gentle introduction to Lisp
The elisp tutorial that comes with emacs is a well written starting-point for the total beginner.

access_denied··on [dead]
sitepoint.com (?)
access_denied··on Richard Stallman on The Setup
Full screen Emacs on a laptop? I wouldn't want a bigger screen than 13' with that setup.
access_denied··on Sun CEO: Go Oracle [Internal Memo]
Beat IBM. Indeed. Oracle won't nix MS or Goog, but they can walz over IBM and SAP, if they integrate Sun's assets thoughtfully.
access_denied··on Sun CEO: Go Oracle [Internal Memo]
> Go home, light a candle, and let go of the expectations and

> assumptions that defined Sun as a workplace

Sun as a company may be dead, but the ideas and values can live on. It's up to the people in that culture to clarify those and live them. If they manage to do that, than Sun the company was the first era of Sun the culture and the acquisition not the end.

access_denied··on Realism in UI Design
Redundant only if you use just 1 browser. Second: it's a piece of personal art (pop-art).
access_denied··on David Heinemeier Hansson, 37 Signals - Unlearn Your MBA (Audio)
"this audio contains explicit language" haha, funny dave.
access_denied··on When work doesn't pay for the middle class
Good comment.

Going to "work" is not the only way an individual can be beneficial to society.

access_denied··on Ask HN: Is a .net domain good enough?
Well, Gruber has daringfireball.net and .com
access_denied··on Ask HN: How do you juggle time spent on learning vs. time building things?
Let's say you absolutely want to stay in 9-5... than I would constantly propose interesting projects inside the company. That way over time I would work on more exciting stuff.
access_denied··on Ask HN: How do you juggle time spent on learning vs. time building things?
The site you would use to market your part-time contracting could later be re-used as a sort of shop for related products, so you turn it into passive income and cash in on your marketing efforts twice.
access_denied··on LG Display Reveals News-Worthy, Flexible E-Paper
Who ever doubted we would get better and better displays over time? The exciting thing would be to get to know some of those damn user-ready products...
access_denied··on Making A Living (Barely) On The iPhone App Store (aka The Numbers Post)
At advertising school I learned in first grade: "every product has an economical value (to the buyer) as well as an psychological one".
access_denied··on Writing English as a Second Language
“Whenever the literary German dives into a sentence, that is the last you are going to see of him till he emerges on the other side of his Atlantic with his verb in his mouth.” (Mark Twain) (I am German btw)
