abronte··on Show HN: I noticed I've spent too much time reading Hacker News
I just pushed the custom settings feature live.

You can click the "options" link at the bottom of the email or get it here http://dailyhn.com/options.

You can change your timezone, delivery time, the top X items to save, and the point threshold.

abronte··on Show HN: I noticed I've spent too much time reading Hacker News
You read my mind :). I want to fork this code base and apply it to reddit.
abronte··on Show HN: I noticed I've spent too much time reading Hacker News
1) Heres a preview image http://i.imgur.com/6D46M.png

2) It takes any story that makes the top 10 on the front page and are over 40 points. (I plan on making this customizable)

abronte··on AWS drops bandwidth pricing
We have a pretty big e-commerce scraping project, and we don't really run into many problems regarding blacklisted ip's. There are a few sites who we get consistent bans from, but with elastic ip's it's pretty much a non-issue. I have yet to see a site that ban's all amazon ip's.

Why is there no "forgot my password" form?
abronte··on SonyPictures.com hacked, personal information and passwords compromised
Apple has gone after jailbreakers? Thats news to me. Geohot has hacked (as far as I know) almost every iDevice Apple has put out, but Apple didn't take him to court because of it.
abronte··on Create Mobile App Mockups easily
Why does everything automatically float to the top? It doesn't seem very usable if I can't place things where I want them.

Seems like a nice start though.

abronte··on Chromebook
Chrome OS is open source http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os

A quick search in google you can find tutorials on how to run it on your own hardware.

abronte··on Poll: What do you use to track your bugs?
Assembla. Lots of project management tools and source control all wrapped into one service. Theres a few things I'd change but it gets the job done.
abronte··on AT&T U-Verse almost a complete failure
Set top boxes are flaky? I've had quite the opposite experience. These have been the fastest, most responsive STB's I've ever worked with. Kicks the crap out of the Time Warner boxes.
abronte··on Minecraft server built in Node.js
This is pretty awesome, can't wait to try it out. The current minecraft server is such a memory hog and can be sort of hard to run a decent server on a small VPS. I wonder how this version compares.
abronte··on Stay up late while you can. It pays off
There are two things my dad has always told me. 1) "Always make sure you get paid" and 2) "Work hard when you're young, you can handle staying up late"
abronte··on Ask HN: Do I need to secure (SSL) my login page?
Google accounts act like an openid/oauth account. Lots of sites have a "log in with your google account" option.
abronte··on 'How piracy works' according to Minecraft creator
I think Notch's biggest way of combating piracy right now is his price point. The game is only $13 USD and has endless amounts of playtime and creativity.

Time and time again, all these big publishers keep putting out big name titles with only 8-16 hours of gameplay for 60$. No wonder their games get pirated...

abronte··on $150 Android Tablet from Kmart
I believe that is the SD card notification, which the tablet has. It shows up whenever you put an SD card in or take it out or hook it up to the computer via usd. Anything regarding cell phone stuff is displayed next to the battery icon.
abronte··on Our Reddit Ad By The Numbers - Whiteyboard
This is the first time I've heard about Whiteyboard, and I didn't have any trouble at all figuring out what it was.

From the name "Whiteyboard" and the words "stick-on whiteboards" right at eye level when the page first opened, I immediately knew what it was.

abronte··on Ask HN: What web apps do you pay for?
github and toggl
abronte··on Blizzard/Activision Removing Anonymity From Game Forums
This sort of defeats the purpose of a "Role Playing Game".
abronte··on TI releases Launchpad, a $4.30 (shipping included) microproccessor dev kit
It's on the wiki. http://www.ti-estore.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&...

But the store doesn't seem to load :(

abronte··on Just open sourced an Android input method I worked for a few weeks...
May I suggest adding where you left off/what needs to be done in the readme or on a wiki page in the github project?
abronte··on Ask HN: Developers, do you play computer games?
Yes, it's what got me into programming. Though as I get more work, I don't tend to game as much.
abronte··on Flash proven to ruin Android 2.2 performance
Not to mention you have to download the flash player from the market if you wish to play flash (at least I did when i updated my nexus one), so it doesn't even come on the device by default as far as I know.
abronte··on Ask HN: Your Development Environment
vim and debian via ssh. Either on a vm on my laptop or on a VPS depending on the project im working on.
abronte··on O'Reilly is selling any eBook for $9.99 today
Same here, when I go to the "emedia" page, it sits there loading for a good 3 minutes, then says I don't have anything to download.
