_eht··on People slept on grass beds 200k years ago
I sleep on my camping cot or hammock full time. I should buy a sand box.
_eht··on How Did the Casio F91W Become a Terrorist Icon?
I think you are correct. I didn't realize they would look so similar.
_eht··on How Did the Casio F91W Become a Terrorist Icon?
It definitely is in the family. I say this while staring at my stack of F91W-1 Classics. The only difference between mine and the one in their header is the top right says “ALARM” instead of “F-91W”, and a few other minor face label differences. Unless it’s a counterfeit, but either way every other detail looks spot on.
_eht··on This Blog Is Now Running on Solar Power
I think you missed the point I was trying to make. I haven’t had my coffee so that’s my bad.

As long as there is a means of conversion you can start with anything and end up being able to pay your taxes. You can’t directly pay taxes with your time and skills, but you can trade your time and skills for USD, and then pay your taxes. You can’t directly pay your US taxes with the AUS dollar, but there is a market where you can exchange that for USD, then pay your taxes. The logic is inclusive of BTC, which makes the ideology that BTC is bad because you can’t pay your taxes with it, at very least, murky.

_eht··on This Blog Is Now Running on Solar Power
>US dollars are the only accepted means to pay taxes.

I agree with this, of course. But there is also a method that allows me to convert my AUS dollar in to US dollar. I just paid my taxes with $AUS?

Does the logic follow: $BTC->$USD->USTAXES ?

_eht··on Hazard pay in focus as essential workers earn less than the jobless
In case you missed it, the Fed has removed almost all reserve requirements.
_eht··on Carving out a niche as a small artist on Spotify
I heard a rumour once that artists did not actually need to eat.

_eht··on Comcast, Mozilla strike privacy deal to encrypt DNS lookups in Firefox
You are being downvoted, but are not wrong. A lot of people confuse Mozilla the foundation with Mozilla the corporation, which is the profit seeking branch and the entity which holds the IP. They are different utilities with different goals. They hold similar contracts with Google and you would all do well to at very least become aware of their financial prospectus.
_eht··on Patagonia joins growing list of companies boycotting Facebook ads
It should be noted that in addition to this being true, they are also diversely testing other production lines in Vietnam and Sri Lanka. There may be others I am unaware of. This leads to the natural question-- are those countries' factories being managed better than those of China? Are we saying China bad, generally, or are we saying the state of factory workers is bad, wherever they clock in? If you are to believe the Patagucci mission statement, they are in a quest to better the world. One could deduce that this also includes working to better their supply chain.
_eht··on Patagonia joins growing list of companies boycotting Facebook ads
OK so if I follow, you make a false claim above ( >For added irony much of their clothing and equipment is made from synthetic materials derived from oil.), and now you're talking about Coca Cola?

Why don't you stop trying to make weird points, read the mission statements of companies akin to Patagonia, verify they are following their missions, AND THEN join the discussion?

For added cruft here are a list of the most common materials used by Patagucci:

- cotton

- hemp

- recycled* synthetic material

Here is a great place to get started on your research path: https://www.patagonia.com/activism/

As one current example, if you start looking at who is bankrolling and moving money for a lot of the current Amazon Forest destruction you will find the likes of Chase JPM, et. al. To save from picking a source, I'll just say it's a pretty easily duckable.
_eht··on The food we buy is shrinking (2018)
The article is from 2018 and the context you are missing spans a large area. Maybe try being less relaxed and complacent? Also consider reading the article. Your comment indicates you missed the points.
_eht··on The food we buy is shrinking (2018)
Here's an idea, stop constantly feeding yourself from companies who enjoy playing psychological pricing and ingredient/filler games on massive scales. Chances are you have someone in your town who roasts coffee beans. Chances are there are local eggs you could be getting easy, or with a little more effort, harvesting your own. Stop feeding yourself and your offspring insanely high levels of sugar breakfast cereal. Have you realized that they skirt food definitions around you? When was the last time you bought real dairy iced cream? Why are we chlorinating chicken and pumping it full of saline solution for the shelves, again?

This article is frustrating because the onus is not directly on the manufacturing... consumers allow the behaviour by largely being ignorant about their own nutrition. But who can blame them, we have entire governments building pyramids to suit questionably beneficial food industries. Where does all that corn come from for our addiction to high fructose corn syrup?

Stop letting people and companies who do not care about YOU, feed you and your family.

_eht··on Gimp 2.10.20
I’ve been using Gimp non-professionally for almost eight years now and the latest releases this last couple years have made it such a pleasure to use. Great job team.
_eht··on The Brave web browser is hijacking links, and inserting affiliate codes
To your point, they are collecting contributions for URLs that are not signed up on the platform. When I heard this I checked a few of my publishing URLs and sure enough they are accumulating ETH/BAT without me doing anything.
_eht··on The Brave web browser is hijacking links, and inserting affiliate codes
You can believe it, they are really good at advertising and marketing. They know the arena very well. Ad Ops is their biggest dept, if I had to guess. Everything they do is intentional with an end goal of getting a market share of the ad industry. It’s huge. They want a piece of it, and you’re right, who can blame them.
_eht··on Ask HN: Will IDN domains ever get browser support?
Alright yeah that was what I was referring to. Are phishing attacks the only real thing holding back full support? I'm wondering if maybe a notification that the domain is an IDN similar to how they notify about bad https for anything they don't already fully show would do the trick. Seeing as how phishing is not currently a solved problem, would it really be that much worse if all IDN's displayed properly?
_eht··on Ask HN: Will IDN domains ever get browser support?
Without converting to punycode?
_eht··on Wine 5.10 Release
https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7102

Really glad to see Microsoft Word 6.0 bug reports from 2007 finally get closed!

_eht··on Wine 5.10 Release
Is there anyone out there who can just let your voice be heard if you use Wine and it has been a frustration free experience?

Do you use it for serious applications, or mostly just curious if you can manage an iTunes install?

What have you failed to install? What have you succeeded to install, even partially?

_eht··on Facebook Novi: Wallet for Libra Digital Currencies
>Facebook’s brand will be plastered on Novi/Libra so just name alone might make people slightly distrustful anyway.

By that logic, Facebook wouldn't have any users right now, Instagram wouldn't be growing, WhatsApp shouldn't exist... should I go on? Facebooks digital grasp is enormous. That alone is why I think this will be a huge player.

_eht··on Facebook Novi: Wallet for Libra Digital Currencies
They are already collecting GID if you use FB for anything more than creeping these days.
_eht··on Facebook Novi: Wallet for Libra Digital Currencies
I was skeptical when I first heard about this. Now, seeing every screenshot showing USD values and nowhere having to worry about conversions, or weird money transfer junk... yeah it’s going to be huge.

IMO banks have sat back and let themselves be replaced. Bit of a bummer to have to be rescued from bad banking interfaces by big Fintech.

_eht··on Unc0ver Jailbreak for iOS 11.0 to 13.5
Not true. You can have your iCloud credentials but no device that runs iTunes. The iTunes requirement is the catch here for me personally.
_eht··on One-Word Domains
I have quite a few in this category that would probably sell. Are you considering allowing listings?
_eht··on Unc0ver Jailbreak for iOS 11.0 to 13.5
I’m 7hrs away from a apple store... pretty remote, but do have proof of purchase. I’ll take that as a no? Someday I’ll have a usable iPad again.
_eht··on Unc0ver Jailbreak for iOS 11.0 to 13.5
I’ve had an iPad that’s been locked for at least a year (forgot pin) and I don’t have a computer that runs iTunes to plug it in to and unlock it. Would this get past that?
_eht··on JPMorgan Extends Banking Services to Bitcoin Exchanges
What is accounting without a history to account for? It’s a part of their living history, similar to Quaker Oats having a history which includes participating in the Manhattan project. I guess I don’t understand why we’re discouraged from including history when we talk about living and breathing companies. Should it be saved for when the company no longer exists? How do we make them accountable when they are gone?
_eht··on JPMorgan Extends Banking Services to Bitcoin Exchanges
