Yver··on Kiwi Farms is down across all domains as DDoS-Guard terminates service
This is an inflammatory, fact-free assertion.
Yver··on I ran the worlds largest DDoS-for-Hire empire and Cloudflare helped
How does one reconcile the idea that KiwiFarms is guilty of unspecified crimes that threaten lives and require emergency intervention, but also those alleged crimes aren't urgent enough that authorities would prosecute them? Is that entirely handwaved by calling the whole of U.S. law enforcement "transphobic / homophobic / white supremacist / right-wing"?

As this submission shows, cybercrime is prosecuted in the U.S.

Yver··on Blocking Kiwifarms
If you want to claim that they do, then you should provide some evidence. Preferably not in the form of circular references to unsourced blog posts/articles.
Yver··on Stranger Things is being edited retroactively by Netflix?
Earlier versions of the article can still be found on the Wayback Machine. [1]

The original article called the alleged removal of that scene, "wimpish laziness."

Yver··on Apple execs: Let's take a 30% cut of Uber and Lyft's membership programs (2018)
Customers deserve access to all app providers.
Yver··on Governor Mike Parson might have known about the threat in 2019
It's worth noting that the @RomanRaminsky Twitter account it refers to was created today and all of its tweets are to throw barbs at the @bitsdigits account.
Yver··on The handshake emoji is more complicated than you might think
The same multi-tone scheme would generate more than 10,000 combinations for the family emoji. I wonder if it will ever be seriously considered.
Yver··on Renaming Coq
That's a transparent attempt at concern trolling.
Yver··on Renaming Coq
That sounds like a you problem. Also, you could say "the language" for the oh-so-many times(?) you apparently have to have to refer to it during a programming class.
Yver··on Anti-fingerprinting extensions tend to make fingerprinting easier
Sure, but that's an issue with those websites, not the law. The law doesn't mandate to have a fullscreen modal that says "We value your privacy" with a big button that allows all cookies and myriad tiny buttons to disallow them individually.

If websites choose to sacrifice usability to be able to fingerprint users, that's on them.

Yver··on Google Chrome is preparing a widget with shopping ads on the new tab page?
I replaced mine with a static HTML page via a custom extension loaded in "Developer mode". It only takes a small JSON file for the manifest and the HTML page itself.
Yver··on Vilified early over Covid-19 strategy, Sweden seems to have scourge controlled
> The per capita rate is far lower than nearby Denmark or the Netherlands (if higher than the negligible rates in Norway and Finland).

According to this article, Sweden's per capita infection rate is far lower than Denmark and the Netherlands, and slightly higher than Norway and Finland. Compare that to population density: (numbers from Wikipedia)

    Netherlands: 521/km²
    Denmark: 137/km²
    Sweden: 25/km²
    Finland: 16/km²
    Norway: 14/km²
Not so coincidentally in my opinion, Sweden has a far lower population density than Denmark and the Netherlands, and slightly higher than Norway and Finland.
Yver··on The First Randomized Controlled Trial on Vitamin D and Covid-19
The patients in this study were not given a prescription of "go outside", they were given vitamin D3 as calcifediol.
Yver··on [dead]
The repository has 2,221 issues labeled as duplicates. If it takes the developers 30 seconds to close an issue, that's about 18 hours spent on handling bogus reports.
Yver··on Colleges rescinding admissions offers as racist social media posts emerge
> If they didn't learn that at home [...]

And if someone comes from a dysfunctional home then tough luck. Be born in a better home next time.

Same thing for people who've been arrested for anything violent or threatening. Wouldn't want to be forced to interact with someone with a criminal past. They need to do some soul searching, which can be done from a prison cell.

Yver··on No Code Of Conduct (2018)
To behave is defined by the Oxford dictionary as "[to] conduct oneself in accordance with the accepted norms of a society or group."
Yver··on Reiser5
If you have to imagine it then this is concern trolling.
Yver··on Hyperscan: High-performance multiple regex matching library from Intel
As per the documentation, the library supports a subset of the PCRE syntax.

Yver··on No Radical Changes in GNU Project
The letter does not even mention who the "large part of those we want to reach out to" refers to. The reader is left to figure out on their own whether these are legitimate grievances or power struggle.
Yver··on For Children With Peanut Allergies, F.D.A. Experts Recommend a New Treatment
Based on previous articles on the subject, the only brand name I associate with peanut allergy is Bamba.

Yver··on The phpCE 2019 conference in Dresden has been cancelled and won't be continued
Outreach groups work as a lobby; They're the ones who need to call organizers. They can't just cultivate a pool of speakers and then wait for conferences to call on them. They're the ones who need to reach to both parties and connect them.

Conferences publish a call for participation and wait for speakers to submit their application rather than the other way around.

Yver··on The phpCE 2019 conference in Dresden has been cancelled and won't be continued
Wouldn't it be better to leave outreach programs to outreach groups? This is a conference about programming and "single responsibility principle" is a fairly popular concept there.
Yver··on The phpCE 2019 conference in Dresden has been cancelled and won't be continued
There is something unsettling in men refusing to attend an event because not enough women wanted to be there. (only one woman applied) They asked the organizers to find more women for them.

"Bring me some women!" said the male speakers.

Yver··on Douglas Adams was right–knowledge without understanding is meaningless
The original article uses a spaced en dash: "Douglas Adams was right – knowledge without understanding is meaningless"

Not as distinguishable as an em dash but much better than an en dash with no spaces.

Yver··on After suggesting a developer drop Linux support, Vivox have released a statement
That's because the developer's OS support is outside of Vivox's prerogative. They tried to change the developer's plans because they couldn't fit in them. If their reply had been something along the lines of "We don't support Linux and can't help you with that" I'm certain most people would be fine with it.

Their original reply makes me think of a hotel that can't accommodate a family of four so they suggest you leave the kids to the grandparents and go on vacation alone. It solves their problem, not yours.

Yver··on Meet Q, a Genderless Voice
This is [uncanny valley][1] applied to voice. They intentionally made a voice that listeners can't quite identify, and it ends up feeling unnatural.

Yver··on Doomed Jets Lacked 2 Safety Features That Boeing Sold as Extras
For a long time, ABS and airbags were as extras as well. The difference is that a consumer shopping for a car can decide how much safety they want to pay for, while air travelers have no idea how safe the plane they are going to board is.
Yver··on Amazon, Amid Crackdown on Seller Scams, Fires Employees Over Data Leak
I had the same feeling a few years ago when the sharing economy was the next big thing and people were prompted to subrent their flat, guest room, tools or car. Depending on who you'd ask, it was touted as the best (or the worst) of capitalism and communism combined.
Yver··on Chrome 71 will block any and all ads on sites with “abusive experiences”

Yver··on The Water Abundance XPrize winner makes water from air
Those specs mention producing half the competition's amount in optimal conditions, which I assume means 99% humidity. They don't actually say at what humidity level and temperature their product can deliver that much. They don't give any specific numbers at any specific temperature, only the machine's operating conditions and the upper limit on what it can produce.
