Yaziyumaru··on Ask HN: Who is firing?
Could be, I know alot of developers here who work for GoodGames and InnoGames. I think GG did a batch of firings semi-recently but I don't recall hearing about anybody not being paid. Then again I'm not German so I miss out on some news.
Yaziyumaru··on Ask HN: How to handle a workaholic colleague?
I mean I'm a Canadian working in Germany and to me it seems like Mayday is very similar conceptually to the American/Canadian Labour Day idea, but I will agree work-life balance is better here.
Yaziyumaru··on “Finland could employ some 2000-3000 developers immediately”
I found the job on StackOverflow Jobs. There was an online test, some online video interviews, and then an in-person interview.

The visa I have is this one:

I had to scan some documents, but otherwise the process was mostly handled by the company. I had to do a couple meetings to finish the process once I moved but they put me on a temporary visa until that happened.

Immigration to Germany as a skilled worker was very easy for me.
Yaziyumaru··on The world’s most liveable cities
Any major city still has low wage workers, but for Software Engineering many of the positions in Vancouver are not proportional to the cost of living.

I grew up near Vancouver and am currently working in Germany because I was getting better offers among other reasons.

Yaziyumaru··on Ask HN: Do you use either C# or Java in your professional work?
C# Developer here, I think C# is an incredibly good language and the Microsoft ecosystem is moving in a much better direction.

You have way more options for OSS nowadays and you don't have to be as reliant on Microsoft's black-box frameworks. I think these changes could improve the popularity of C# in the coming years.

Yaziyumaru··on Ask HN: How much do you make at Amazon? Here is how much I make at Amazon
This is true of my position in Germany as well, but from what I understand it rarely works out like that. Unless you are leaving a company at a critical juncture they likely don't want to keep an unmotivated employer there for three months. I can mutually agree with my employer to leave early if necessary.
Yaziyumaru··on Silicon Valley and Black Coders: Howard University fights to join the tech boom
It might be true that the majority are coming out of top tech schools, I really have no way of knowing that. However, I'm skeptical about how important the school is to Google as an employer given their rigorous screening process. Coming from a top tech school certainly can't hurt but I don't believe the school you go to necessarily dictates what quality of engineer you are, though it can increase your opportunities for sure.

On the second point, I think interest prior to University is certainly helpful but saying it's a majority is just an anecdotal conjecture itself.

I don't think this is true, I went to a very small not well known college in Canada and a classmate of mine went straight to Google after finishing his CS degree.

Good companies generally hire off of provable skills not "how early" you started learning.

Yaziyumaru··on Ask HN: Finding work in another country as Junior Developer
Great, these are exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
