Working primarily in presales engineering.
A lot of my previous data work was someone saying "show me what's interesting"... "no, not that- something else"... "huh, this doesn't jive with my gut, start over".
Bringing _value_ out of data sciene / engineering is incredibly hard. You have to have the engineering skills as baseline, but I firmly believe everyone undervalues the amount of work to "sell" your analysis to less technical folks in a way that's inline with the needs of the org. It's incredibly difficult.
I’m much more content, calmer, and the day to day bs of life just doesn’t get to me as much anymore.
Physically- getting serious about weight training. I much prefer cardio, but lifting heavy has keep me injury free and honestly I like what I see in the mirror now.
In each aspect I try to do something every day. Even if it isn’t perfect, it builds “muscle memory” and I’m less dependent on motivation. Now it compounds even more time after time. Be well :)
Anyhoo, all pure speculation. While I've never used it, my friends have great things to say about DBT.
I’ve had a Strava since, forever? Over a decade at this point. It’s the de facto app for cycling and running and is one social media app I get real value from.
I will say- as someone who pays for Strava Premium their product strategy has been a mess for ages. Feature requests go unacknowledged for years and they keep adding silly features no one wants.
I’ll keep using it because my friends are all on it, but it does feel like they are slowly dying of self inflicted wounds.
As someone who doesn't write Ruby, even I can grok RoR in a few hours. And even though it's boring and not trendy, it gets the job done for a lot of use cases.
I will just say I really miss the Jepsen blog posts. They were always fun to read and I learned a ton.
I saw version 29 was recently cut- is there anywhere I can get a good overview of “best practices in 2022”?
I wouldn’t mind dusting off my init.el and updating it. I haven’t had a good yak shave in five years or so :)
I know that these taxis will be in slowing moving city traffic, but nonetheless it's an automobile and should have (IMO) all of the safety of a modern day sedan.
One thing that this article touches on, but I think needs to be emphasized even more is that the stark reality is that the only advocate for the patient is the patient themselves, or perhaps a caretaker.
The burden is on me to ask questions about fertility and sperm banking because my oncologist is well... an oncologist not a fertility expert. I have to ensure that every department is communicating with every other department.
Hospitals and physicians are fantastic at solving discrete issues, but the bigger picture is often lost in the chaos. I can do it as a technically adept 34 year old, it's horrifying to think about how someone closer to 80 goes about it.
