Uchikoma··on How Airbus is debugging the A350
So your answer in this discussion is "PR spin. PR spin."
Uchikoma··on How Airbus is debugging the A350
To me, not being an expert, the article mentioning a lot of rigor and thoroughness to not run again into the A380 problems, this

"This is nothing new and isn't different from Boeing in anything they mentioned in the article."

contradicts this

"Lack of rigor and believing things would just work (too optimistic) from what I have heard on the outside."

Uchikoma··on An Introduction to Lock-Free Programming (2012)
I refer you to the classic " Erlang Style Actors Are All About Locking "

Uchikoma··on ShowHN: SitemapFX – Check sitemaps for keywords
Coded SitemapFX over the weekend to compare Scala Play 2.2 with my Liftweb experiences. Also I had some need to look more into sitemap.xml files, so why not create a simple service. Enjoy.

Open for any feedback and for things you think might be good extensions of functionality. Thanks.

Uchikoma··on Ask HN: Where do you register your domains?
Namecheap
Uchikoma··on Why does Apple continue killing bitcoin apps?
The problem is not building a plattform, the problem is marketing one ($$$). You can't make money on a plattform without users willing to pay.
Uchikoma··on 100 time cheaper dropbox like service
"The company has eight datacentres housing at least 145,000 machines."

Uchikoma··on Mt.Gox Withdrawals
Nearly 63k BTC now.
Uchikoma··on Two big announcements
They could just have two different frontends, everything else the same.
Uchikoma··on 37signals becomes Basecamp
Or their move is because of Trello.
Uchikoma··on Two big announcements
Great success.

Though my guess is all the people who applauded 37signals for their product strategy, will now again applaud 37signals.

And there will be a book "The One Product Company".

Uchikoma··on Indian School Girl Creates Washing Machine That Runs Without Electricity
Thanks for the information.
Uchikoma··on Indian School Girl Creates Washing Machine That Runs Without Electricity
I understood it as during the washing cycle power demands fluctuate, peak, and there is not enough power for that. Like memory, your process starts, has a memory peak after 15min and you get an out of memory error. Does not run through.
Uchikoma··on Indian School Girl Creates Washing Machine That Runs Without Electricity
I guess he assumed that there was power, or no power, but there was no state of "not enough power", just like me.
Uchikoma··on It’s Time to Make OpenStreetMap Your Only Street Map
Thanks for the links, didn't know.
Uchikoma··on It’s Time to Make OpenStreetMap Your Only Street Map
When in Tokyo lately I've used OSM and found it suprisingly good. What I did miss compared to the Google Maps app is the direction the device is pointing towards.

Routing would also be nice :-)

Uchikoma··on Streetpong [video]
Hmm, looks fake to me, the image/text is wobbling differently than the camera.
Uchikoma··on Big changes to Erlang
I don't want to sound pessimistic, but adding a map structure to an language sounds rather small to me.
Uchikoma··on PayPal Denies Providing Payment Information to Twitter Username Hacker
After all the prison sentences lately, I'm not sure he wants to brag about himself.
Uchikoma··on PayPal Denies Providing Payment Information to Twitter Username Hacker
Sorry, in my argument I meant user with what you've called customer.
Uchikoma··on PayPal Denies Providing Payment Information to Twitter Username Hacker
If you display 4 digits to the user for CC validation, as basically everyone does, then there will always be someone who can read those 4 digits and give them to someone else.
Uchikoma··on PayPal Denies Providing Payment Information to Twitter Username Hacker
The argument was, he was deflecting attention away from him towards others - which, as this thread for the parent poster shows, worked.
Uchikoma··on The craziest bug you never heard about from 2008: A Linux threading regression
WTF! No I'm not :-)
Uchikoma··on The craziest bug you never heard about from 2008: A Linux threading regression
Craziest to me is The Bug by Ellen Ullman.

Personal craziest was an Oracle performance problem on Windows NT in the 90s. Slow as hell. Going to the server, logging in, checking everything: Blazing fast. Back at the desk, slow as hell. Problem was the GL tube screen blanker with software rendering :-)

We had this too with one large hiring agency.
Uchikoma··on My Amazon interview experience
NDAs for interviews? Is this common in the US? I would feel intimidated and not sure I'd sign that.
