Tim-Boss··on If I was your cloud provider, I'd never let you down
Try disabling https-everywhere for joyent.com. Worked for me!
Tim-Boss··on If I was your cloud provider, I'd never let you down
All I know is I get a time-out when connecting to joyent with https-everywhere running, and a normal webpage when it's disabled!
Tim-Boss··on If I was your cloud provider, I'd never let you down
Apparently they're having some SSL issues, try disabling "https everywhere" or any other similar browser addons I presume you're running!
Tim-Boss··on Ouya: A New Kind of Video Game Console
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBl-goBrWno The Tegra3 quad-core processor doesn't perform awfully, and comes with 1Gb RAM... I'm not sure how much better you can get for $95 (lowest backing point to secure a console)!
Tim-Boss··on Show HN: Project Maya
This post has restored some of my faith in humanity. The world of software... no, screw that, the ENTIRE WORLD would be a better place with more people like you guys in :)
Tim-Boss··on Show HN: My learn-Zend project -- A chat room on top of all the web's sites
It was called OLark if my memory hasn't failed me. From what I remember it was semi-popular for a while but ultimately died a death of user scarcity as only the most popular websites ever had >1 active user with the program installed. Let me try find the link.... [edit] http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=801242
Tim-Boss··on Live: SpaceX Dragon docking with ISS
From https://spacex.com/updates.php

"FRIDAY MORNING - Final Approach, Dragon Grapple

Around 2:00 AM Pacific/5:00 AM Eastern NASA will decide if Dragon is GO to move into the approach ellipsoid 1.4 kilometers around the space station. If Dragon is GO, after approximately one hour Dragon will move to a location 250 meters directly below the station. Dragon will then perform a series of maneuvers to show systems are operating as expected. If NASA is satisfied with the results of these many tests, Dragon will be allowed to perform the final approach to the space station.

Sometime around 6:00 AM Pacific/9:00 AM Eastern, astronauts on the space station will grapple Dragon with the space station’s robotic arm and the spacecraft will attach to the station."

Tim-Boss··on Miso pays disputed $10k referral bonus to ex-engineer, apologizes
Hi javajosh, I just had to leave this comment here to say thank you. Your comment was possibly one of the best comments I have ever read on HN, and possibly the internet at large. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity somewhat.

If I could sit here all day clicking the upvote button I would!

Tim-Boss··on The phone with a projector
As someone who has forgone any TV's in place of a pretty heavy duty projector in my living room, I can say with some certainty that 15 lumens will barely be visible even in a pitch black room! My full-size/spec projector puts out about 2500 lumens and is still hard to see with the curtains open in the day time!

I view this in the same way I view "fun-size" candy bars...an interesting novelty for kids, completely impractical for most everyone else!

Tim-Boss··on India can make world’s cheapest nuclear reactors
Cheap != Quality
Tim-Boss··on High Court: The Pirate Bay must be blocked by UK ISPs
Within minutes of any major ISP implementing a "block" a few thousand people will post on facebook/twitter/blogs and websites links to the plethora of proxies/TOR tunnels/Open DNS settings and VPN's that will instantly negate any ISP level "block" (sarcastic quotes intentional).

This will cost british ISP's hundreds of thousands or millions of pounds to implement and manage, and will at best only delay any would-be knock-off-nigel 30 seconds or so while he learns about proxies et. al. and configures a browser.

Security theatre at its worst...THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!

Tim-Boss··on Cheaters in Garry's Mod
The line "You cant just ban them because...It is also a violation of the human privacy rights." has particularly brightened up my afternoon!
Tim-Boss··on NameCheap Overtakes Go Daddy In Google
I'm very happy to report that in the UK GoDaddy don't even appear on the first page of results!

Tim-Boss··on Chronic Buckyball Administration Doubles Rat Lifespan
Obviously not everything studied in Rat models scales well or is even effective at all in Humans, but the potential applications of this will surely raise a few eyebrows!

Interesting to note a daily diet of olive oil increased their average lifespan by 4 months alone! The Omega-3 fatty acids in it at a guess... but I wonder what the exact methods of action are for C60!

Tim-Boss··on How to apologise to your customers
yes, yes I did....and I will be uninstalling the auto-spell-correct asap ;)

Tim-Boss··on Murdoch owned Sky admits email hacking "in the public interest"
Where does the line get drawn between investigative journalism and investigative policing these days?!
Tim-Boss··on How to apologise to your customers
I know this apology has only ended up being as thorough and all encompassing as it has because of the other recent PR screw-ups from YC/tech related startups (wont name them here), but I'm not sure I care!

This should go down in the annuls of history as the defacto "OH SHIT! Sorry guys, our bad, srsly, really sorry! It wont happen again for these reasons.... oh and as a gesture of our sorrow, here's some free stuff!" style apology!

I don't currently use balsamiq, but after seeing this apology and reading their attitude to customer service, I will definitely be finding out more about them!

I'm pretty sure that mother bears aren't at all keep on strangers being around their cubs...let alone playing "patty-cake" with them!
Tim-Boss··on GoDaddy Domains for $1.99 only
I would rather take my 199 cents and throw them at Bob Parsons one by one.
Tim-Boss··on Your Last Straw: Reusable Drinking Straw
Cleaning and the stiffness/inflexibility of the whole thing are going to take some getting used to! Not entirely convinced these will be taking off in a massive way any time soon...
Tim-Boss··on Easy cloaking with superconductors and magnetic tape
EM cloaking at near absolute zero has always been possible, just waiting for the day when one of these stories involves EM within the visible light band rather than a simple magnetic field!
Tim-Boss··on [dead]
Agreed that the brush tool is pretty much useless...

What's wrong with "The GIMP" (Gnu-Image-Manipulation-Program)? Its always my second choice when it comes to image editing, or as a "photoshop-backup"!

Tim-Boss··on Introducing Flow from Mixpanel
How long is this going to be free for? Hate to convert a some websites to it, only to have to move on again in a few months!
Tim-Boss··on Female coders, lighten up
It does sound like she needs to lighten up a bit though.... (JK!) ;)

Seriously, I'm starting to believe the reason that there's not more female coders/developers has something to do with all the men that are already there....
