TheGateKeeper··on iPhone 5
So let me get this straight. A single app on iOS, which doesn't live up to expectations or desires AND is still in BETA (re: unfinished, unready) and this makes you consider buying an entirely new phone?

You sound like those soccer moms I make house calls for who just think it's easier to throw away a working system and buy something else.

TheGateKeeper··on The real source of Apple device IDs leaked by Anonymous last week
I'm laughing my head off at all of those Apple haters and conspiracy theorists right now over the collective brain explosions when facts come out that Apple wasn't colluding with the government.
TheGateKeeper··on From Linux to OSX - 1 Year Later

TheGateKeeper··on From Linux to OSX - 1 Year Later
This is why you use macports ;)
TheGateKeeper··on How can I convince my boss that ANSI C is inadequate for our new project?
That or whoever the poster is, is inadequate at understanding technical level management and their requirements. I had the same problem once.
TheGateKeeper··on Amazon's New Kindle Fire Tablets Are All Ad-Supported
I remember a day when cable tv had no commercials. You paid, as opposed to programs coming in over the air, and therefor didn't need to see commercials.

I wish it were still this way.

TheGateKeeper··on What killed the Linux desktop
Neither do I. Ncurses and mc work just fine in OS X Terminal.app. Even under 10.8.1
TheGateKeeper··on Twitter Launches “Twitter Certified Products”
So does Facebook, and Myspace.
TheGateKeeper··on Apple's New Pinch-To-Zoom Monopoly is Bad News
Being obvious doesn't make it prior art alone. If that were the case, Shazam would owe me millions.
TheGateKeeper··on Who inherits your iTunes library when you die?
I remove DRM from everything I purchase.

Who inherits my iTunes library (or kindle library etc etc)? My estate does.

TheGateKeeper··on Statement from the Family of Neil A. Armstrong
Get out.
TheGateKeeper··on Steve Wozniak: Internet should not have gatekeepers or regulators
Thank you for this post. I'm constantly amazed, dumbfounded, and outraged that people don't know the BASICS OF REAL FREEDOM in this country.

It's not what the government allows you to do.

It's what we allow and not allow the government to do.

TheGateKeeper··on White House Deletes TSA Petition
You can't get "signatures" with the 'like' button by using facebook or gmail connect.
TheGateKeeper··on Debian Now Defaults To Xfce Desktop
I still use a self-customized BlackboxWM for my graphical mode needs. It's great on debian. =]
TheGateKeeper··on Show HN: Burner, for temporary phone numbers
How is this not obvious? It's right there on the iTunes page.
TheGateKeeper··on I'm an American and I want to watch the Olympics. What do I do?
It not only ignores them but people purposely place these restrictions on them for greedy reasons.

Frankly, in my experience it doesn't take a lot to enable multicast and doing it internet wide _shouldn't_ be that big of a deal so we can handle all the streaming of live events with little worry - but the "powers that be" want to restrict everything online and it's frustrating, angering and downright dangerous attitude to have as a defacto "standard".

TheGateKeeper··on Sparrow made downloadable to conform to LGPL
> Customer may not redistribute any work based on those files

Well it's a good thing I'm not a customer!

TheGateKeeper··on No Credit for Uncle Sam in creating Net? Vint Cerf disagrees
WSJ should be embarrassed and fire that writer.

Getting basic tenets of history wrong and misleading millions? What a sham.

TheGateKeeper··on Hacker Opens High Security Handcuffs With 3D-Printed And Laser-Cut Keys
Don't you dare give them ideas!
TheGateKeeper··on Why Do We Wear Pants? Horses.
You're right, it had nothing to do with it. It was a side effect that was predominant in male fashion before it came to women's fashion.
TheGateKeeper··on Logins are Dead, and Mobile Killed Them
This isn't a popular sentiment but the way I solve this is not to let anyone borrow or touch my devices.
TheGateKeeper··on That’s No Phone. That’s My Tracker.
It is laughable, isn't it? If they're needing wifi to triangulate you chances are they already know where you are anyways.
TheGateKeeper··on Android sales "trouncing" Apple since release of iPhone 4
Android devs really need to step up their game and give these non-childish names. Jellybean? where am I, disney.com?
TheGateKeeper··on Wireless Firms Are Flooded by Requests to Aid Surveillance
And why wouldn't you go that far? There's no reason for a third party THAT I PAY SERVICE FEES TO to save my conversation. Transmission of the material until it reaches its client is the limit. ONLY WHEN any agency gets a warrant from a judge should they be given LIMITED ACCESS to the CURRENT messages being transmitted. Not have the ability to peruse the history of.
TheGateKeeper··on Wireless Firms Are Flooded by Requests to Aid Surveillance
My question is: why are they storing the data anyways? Pass it along and don't keep it on the servers! Ignore all requests not authorized by a Warrant issued by a Judge.
TheGateKeeper··on How to Get Started with Usenet in Three Steps
I remember back in the 90s time warner's news servers were only nntp://news-server/ and we could see our neighbor's computers via Windos 95/98's "Network Neighborhood".

Good times.

TheGateKeeper··on Winamp's woes: how the greatest MP3 player undid itself
That's how you should view all software, frankly. As a utility to get the job done.
TheGateKeeper··on Because Everyone (Still) Needs a Router
There's nothing inherently wrong with that. I say the best tool for the job at hand is what wins, especially over ideologies.
TheGateKeeper··on How a Mexican Drug Cartel Makes Its Billions
Or the less popular option is to forcibly remove them from the planet.
TheGateKeeper··on Valve Says "Yes" To Steam Linux This Year
I hope they have a CLI only version available for simpler server management on both local and remote systems. Having it as a desktop UI for gaming would be absolutely fantastic.
