TheBranca18··on How Two Guys Lost God and Found $40M
I think you need to understand what empathy is. Nothing in your post actually addresses the post you replied to. Seems like what you're implying, is that it's okay to take advantage of people. And you're basing this implication on some anecdotal experience you had growing up. I just fail to see what that has to do with anything. Do you feel like taking advantage of desperate people is okay? Because that's what I'm getting out of your post.
TheBranca18··on Locust – A modern load testing framework
A bit tongue in cheek, but is a testimonial from someone at EA/Dice something you'd want to highlight? I know Battlefield 4 is almost two years old at this point, but man, I still have the scars from that game...

In all seriousness, definitely going to check this out, not enough load testing is done at the company I work for, plus I want to learn more python.

TheBranca18··on Nuon, the gaming chip that nearly changed the world but didn’t
I think it's pretty interesting that people at Sony were upset with Kutaragi for putting DVD functionality in the PS2. People argue today that it was a small part of the mass adoption of the format. Perhaps, along with the disastrous unveiling and launch of the PS3, it contributed to his downfall at the company.
TheBranca18··on Hagoromo president explains why he closed down his beloved chalk business
Love the quotation, and also didn't realize it came from a Bible verse originally.
TheBranca18··on PC Drivers for the Xbox One Controller
His insincerity is at odds with someone like Phil Spencer, and it's not a surprise that Phil is in the position he is in now.
TheBranca18··on The x86 PlayStation 4 could signal a sea-change in the console industry
I would think producing 50 gb+ flash for games would be prohibitively expensive compared to optical discs. Especially as they can continue to add layers to Blu-ray to add more storage space. As long as the disc read speeds are faster than the PS3's (2x) I think it's still an advantage.

On a different note I wish the PS3 would adopt the 360's way of installing the entire game to the hard drive. I can't think that either Sony or Microsoft will stick an SSD in their next generation console but having a 500 gb hard drive shouldn't be too costly.

TheBranca18··on SOPA is all fun and games until NBC rips off Apple's artwork
Or just use a website like http://placehold.it and grab an image: http://placehold.it/256x256

It's pretty obvious then when you need to replace something before going into production.

TheBranca18··on DuckDuckGo: Escape your search engine filter bubble
Most people don't realize that Google and other companies are doing this. That's my main problem. It's not about selling books in my mind as much as it about communicating why something is in a search list for person A vs. person B. I don't want my Internet censored.
TheBranca18··on PSN has been hacked again
PSN hasn't been hacked again. A webpage has been hacked that could change your password. Definitely a misleading headline.
TheBranca18··on This is What Irony Tastes Like: Capcom and the PSN Outage
Genuinely curious, if you don't have time to read stuff like this on here why bother clicking? Seems like you could solve your problem and others by not clicking.

The quality aspect comes from the people who participate on here, not its obscurity.

BTW, stories about a large company getting hacked is relevant to a site called Hacker News.

TheBranca18··on Facebook HipHop serves 70% more traffic on same hardware
I think Facebook is worried more about scale, hence HipHop. Drupal doesn't scale well at all and shouldn't be used as an example of what's best practice. Otherwise we'd see tons of products having function chains longer than a tapeworm.
TheBranca18··on Why Plenty Of Fish Stores Passwords in Plain Text
Not true I bet there are plenty of hackers that are single and looking for love! I go on there even though I don't like the website and its functionality once a week just to see who's around.
TheBranca18··on Plenty of Fish Hacked
I'm on plentyoffish and they do weekly send you your password in plaintext (there are plenty of other sites that do this). Thankfully I change my passwords each month to a random string of 12 characters and don't really care. Perhaps if hackers get into my account, my account can finally get a date!
TheBranca18··on Sublime Text 2: Public Alpha Released
Nevermind I take it back, I just had a lot of files, took a while to load. This is tremendous!! Plus you don't really need the file browser with the Go To Anything functionality.
TheBranca18··on Sublime Text 2: Public Alpha Released
Perhaps I'm using it incorrectly, but the Folders option does not seem to be working for me on 32 bit Ubuntu 10.10
TheBranca18··on Kinect is fastest-selling consumer electronics device in history
My roommate has it at home, for fitness related games I think it's a godsend, but then again the Wii has already taken that with games like Wii Fit. Being a video game aficionado I'm scared that this is going to replace controller-based games with the advent of Move and the WiiMote as well. I might have to go to the handheld market for less gimmicky gaming depending on what the next gen holds.
TheBranca18··on How my iPhone made me miss my first flight of the year
In contrast, I bought a ticket on Continental while I was in line for Jetblue at Logan airport right after Jetblue cancelled my flight. I was panicking putting in my credit card in Mobile Safari (and still have never got a confirmation email) but I was able to get out and make it home for New Year's. I try to never rely just on my phone alarm for whatever reason, call that being overly cautious.
TheBranca18··on The Price 20-Somethings Pay to Live in the City
Four years ago, my best friend and I were paying 1850 for a two bedroom, one bath in Astoria. It had cockroaches, the power would go out if we plugged too many things in, and it was four avenue blocks from the train.

I'm not saying living in New York is bad, especially if you're single in your 20's, but financially it made no sense to me and I'm glad I moved.

TheBranca18··on [dead]
I'm scratching my head. That's the only thing you want to comment upon? Semantics? I'm devastated by the amount of people willing to give up their rights for a group (TSA) that has shown no competence whatsoever regarding what they're supposed to be doing.

(I also don't want to be seen naked in an airport.)

TheBranca18··on Android devices outselling iOS by 2:1 in US (q3)
Are people surprised by this? I mean I'm wondering why this is news. iOS is locked to first-party hardware, rather than the Android route, so I'm curious as to what's so surprising about this. Perhaps I'm missing something (would not be the first time on HN).
TheBranca18··on Why Game Dev Story is a great game?
You can immediately start playing without feeling overwhelmed, which is something that cannot be said about current console games. One of the benefits of portable gaming.

Also the game developers don't take everything seriously, considering you can advertise on the moon.

TheBranca18··on Facebook iPhone app shares all your phone numbers
It's a little more than that when this article is stating that there's a severe privacy risk for people who don't even own an iPhone or have never installed the Facebook application. Perhaps it's not a big deal for you to have your phone number out there for public consumption, but it is for many people including myself.
TheBranca18··on Why I'm not happy about IE9
I know for me not having to boot up VirtualBox to test that everything works fine in IE would be a boon not a problem. But yeah I'm not seeing where it really benefits MS here at all.
TheBranca18··on Why the iPhone will fail (2007)
iOS 4 on the 3G seems almost unusable and with little additional features I wonder why Apple bothered with it. There are downgrade tutorials around I'd suggest looking at them.
TheBranca18··on Who is your hero?
At the risk of sounding childish I'd say Batman is my hero. One could even consider him a hacker based on his technological prowess.
TheBranca18··on Your Code Sucks
Personally I think it's smart. I'm sure she gets more page views because of it as well. First time reading the blog and I thought it was interesting enough.

I don't see how she's intentionally fooling you. The URL is girldeveloper, she has a picture plastered on the right (like a ton of other blogs I might add). I guess I'm confused by your reaction.

TheBranca18··on [dead]
They posted the poll to get page views. The integrity on Engadget is severely lacking, in my experience.
TheBranca18··on A new type of phishing attack. Works on savvy users.
Unfortunately I've found that the passwordanywhere stuff doesn't work on Chrome on Linux anyway. Probably wishful thinking :)
TheBranca18··on If Mario Was Designed in 2010
It really is more like if Sony or Microsoft took Nintendo's original design and added their APIs on top of it.

If Sony or Microsoft actually designed Mario the character would be overly muscled and bald like Gears of War or Infamous.

TheBranca18··on Pedal to the Chrome metal: Our fastest beta to date for Windows, Mac and Linux
I'd have to say the developer tools are comparable to Firebug and won't freeze Chrome the way Firebug periodically freezes Firefox.
