As someone who works for an HIE and in the interoperability space, I feel like we have been talking about FHIR for the last decade. Hopefully it hits critical mass soon but I doubt it.

I would think it is fairly common knowledge that insulin is rather expensive in the US, and while the sample size is small, anecdotal evidence from my experience in health IT and working with social determinants of health seems to indicate that debt with diabetes is fairly common.

I don't think it is a stretch to assume that these high medical costs, specifically insulin are forcing patients into debt.

I am really not surprised. I'm under 30, about to get married have a decent paying job but the uncertainty of a lot of things (Healthcare, inflation, global warming, just to name a few) has both me and my SO still unsure if we want kids. It also might be that some people are realizing they would not be good parents and thus choosing to not have kids.

Probably not the minority. I know I would appreciate a flush back but lets be real consumers really don't have a ton of influence on a design choice like this.

Funny you mention hammers. I checked and my local ham group is run by a bunch of right-wing nut jobs, so I don't think they would be interested in a meshnet.

I would really love to do something like this in my neighborhood. Seems like an interesting project and a fun hobby but sadly I think I would have a hard time with hardware and finding willing people to help out.

Personally, I would say this is a much smaller issue than GNU/Linux simply not being pre-installed on machines and sold at retailers. I think there would be much better adoption if people could simply walk into a store like Best Buy and buy a machine with GNU/Linux preinstalled and go about there day. I do agree that UX/UI consideration like terminal use are certainly a barrier but I do not think it is the biggest issue.

Right? I am not really sure I see the problem. It seems to me like Huawei is just submitting clean-up patches and the maintainer has higher expectations of what patches they should be submitting. Granted I am not a developer not a maintainer of any project so that might be why it is not obvious.

I thought it might be kind of obvious but I think I tend to forget that things posted online are missing some critical context. So anyways, I really I don't want to be dismissive of fair and valid criticisms but its hard to articulate my opinion on the matter in a short and semi-awkward format like HN. Basically what I am trying to say is that my point is probably a little more nuanced then it seems.

That being said, I do think that there are circumstances in which being "canceled" might not be warranted. I have not heard of the case you are referencing specifically until just now. I read the article and found the prof on RateMyProfessor and overall they do not seem like a shitty person, however I would still like to read the "confidential" report the school conducted even though that is probably not possible as that might change my opinion. Also I am not Canadian and most of the Canadians I know/have experiences with do not outright strike me as racist. Of course current trends I have seen in both the US and Canada have lead me to rethink that people/areas are not inherently free of racial prejudice and if Canada has a somewhat similar history to the US, there is most certainly a bit of racism.

I digress, I think canceling can be a problem for situations like the one you referenced and I do not want to undersell how shitty it can be for someone who is on the wrong end of it. In some cases in may be warranted if the proper mechanism for fairness or recourse are not working. I guess it just kind of depends.

I agree, I'm not saying you should have your entire life uprooted because you said something stupid on Twitter when you were like 13. The situation in this case is a little different. Again, don't be a dick or try to avoid it when possible and I don't think you will have to worry about being canceled.

Fair point. I did not intend to be as blanketing as I was. I assume there are a number of people who would not mind going back into the office. I think my point still stands, as long as employees do not have an option, some will leave.

I guess it depends on the industry and if you/the industry you work in has been effected by COVID.

Working as a bartender or cook at a restaurant? Doubt we will see a mass resignation. Unless people decide they are tired of shit treatment.

Working in IT or some similar position at a modern company? I bet we would see a larger number of people quitting. Why go back into the office? Why commute? Why do anything like that when COVID has shown that remote work is a viable option. Any company that cannot accept the new fact that workers want to be able to work remotely is going to struggle to find talent.

If Google had a paid, ad-free option for more then just YouTube and some drive space I would be happy to pay it. I don't know if I would shell out for paid Google searches but I would at-least like to see an alternative option.

This is a great point. My evidence is anecdotal but I became a vegetarian about 5 years ago. I used to hate all of the meat substitutes as the tasted "off". Now, after a few years of not eating meat, I could not tell you what chicken or meat would taste like and I have grown fond of some of the alternatives.

A little bit of both.

I like the concept of NFTs as it pertains to allowing artists more "control" over their works but I see no value in NFTs as a means of investing or really anything other than the modern pet rock. That being said, I still think it would be cool to own one as a novelty.

Not to be a naysayer, but do you have any sort of evidence to substantiate this claim? Any evidence of exceptions to laws regarding the usage of the watershed and lake with specific regards to Foxconn? Or any kind of indication that a bottling facility will be built up?

A bit ironic that RT is talking about this, right? A country that has some censorship issues is mocking a stupid award from a western company that also has censorship issues.
