Tempest -- the quintessential 80s video game... colored vector graphics and a perfectly-weighted knob that growled when spun. http://www.andysarcade.de/tempest.html

Tempest1981··on StreetComplete on iOS is now in public beta
Or add a "probability of injury or death" attribute for more granularity.
Tempest1981··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
And someone quickly hacked around it:

Tempest1981··on AI coding has made CI a bottleneck, so we reworked ours to keep up
Start a few dozen agents, and take a long lunch, right? No?
Tempest1981··on Can you tell which images are AI-generated?
Play the lottery! I got -1350 spamming 2, -400 spamming 1. Feeling unlucky.
Tempest1981··on iPhone Duo
Story from 2017, but the iPhone event: https://www.engadget.com/2017-09-14-apple-explains-face-id-f...

> Face ID ... didn't quite work as he expected. "Your passcode is required to enable Face ID" popped up, eliciting a nervous chuckle out of Craig and forcing him to switch to the spare demo phone

Tempest1981··on iPhone Duo
Assuming they don't swap it out every night/week.

Speaking of which, when will it be in the stores to play with?

Tempest1981··on iPhone Duo
True, I remember years ago, the presenter was doing a demo and ran into a problem. He quickly transitioned to another identical device nearby, and continued almost seamlessly. Didn't seem like much of an issue. Although that might have been WWDC, which is a different crowd.
Tempest1981··on The car industry A/B tested selling a car with and without CarPlay
CarPlay Ultra adds information such as speed, fuel/charge level, climate control, and tire pressure. Hard to imagine legal issues around that.

Although I could imagine the car manufacturers wanting to get revenue from refueling ads.

Tempest1981··on Chrome again exempts Google from user site data settings
Microsoft Edge does this too, iirc, for "Startup Boost".
Tempest1981··on I Don't Think I Can Stay in Tech
I grew up believing that capitalism somehow separates business from government, with each operating independently. Same with separation of church and state. Not sure what to think of things now.
Tempest1981··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
op forgot to add "/hyperbole"
Tempest1981··on 'Pervert glasses': Backlash against Meta's smart glasses grows
I think they tried that, and people hacked around it:

Tempest1981··on 'Pervert glasses': Backlash against Meta's smart glasses grows
"I'll let you guys introduce yourselves..."
Tempest1981··on Americans are rallying against data centers. Surprisingly few are getting built
In that case, try the "Blue Cube" method, like the old Onizuka Air Force Station near Moffet Field.

Tempest1981··on Americans are rallying against data centers. Surprisingly few are getting built
I'm surprised they haven't tried painting them "Go Away Green", vs stark off-white monoliths.

Tempest1981··on Flock – Chilling Effects: Long Island's Emerging Open-Air Prison
> The list includes a school district near Syracuse, a casino's tribal police force in Connecticut, the Fort Worth, Texas police department 1,600 miles away, and Home Depot Corporation, a private company

Can any private corporation request/buy access? Or is Home Depot special?

Found this: https://corporate.homedepot.com/page/immigration-activity-ou...

Tempest1981··on Moonshot built on 20k Nvidia chip cluster from Alibaba
> Either they have Blackwell

From the article:

A person familiar with Moonshot’s procurement strategy confirmed that the company does indeed have a channel for accessing Blackwell processors via Southeast Asia. They didn’t specify whether this was a rental channel...

Tempest1981··on Vehicle Motion Cues
I like the "bubbling" dots effect that occurs in an airplane when making a turn. Anyone know the reason?

I guess they're moving in the opposite direction of the turn to force the perception of turning.

Tempest1981··on My Images Are Dithered
Reminded me of how Safari removes the first word from tab titles
Tempest1981··on Apple targets dozens of OpenAI employees with legal letters
Effective Sept 1
Tempest1981··on Linux eliminates the strncpy API after six years of work, 360 patches
I wonder if an early built-in string class would have been 8-bit or 16-bit UCS-2? Would have been hard to stomach 16-bit storage and performance.
Tempest1981··on My two-part desk setup (2025)
Yep, even more-so with a corner desk (L-shaped). Although there are times my work involves both papers and computer, and the quick swivel of a corner desk is great.
Tempest1981··on Peter Neumann has died

Tempest1981··on Linux security mailing list 'almost unmanageable'
At my job, multiple people have vibe-coded bug-triage utilities. They're great for grouping duplicates.

But now we need an AI tool to consolidate the triage utilities.

Tempest1981··on Waymo recalls U.S. robotaxi fleet after vehicle swept away in flood
Is it a hardware fix?

Or a software fix, but can't be done OTA?

Tempest1981··on IBM didn't want Microsoft to use the Tab key to move between dialog fields
Ctrl-F6 ?
Tempest1981··on Backblaze has stopped backing up OneDrive and Dropbox folders and maybe others
Parent is using "backuped" to mean "likely in some cloud (latest version)". And that may explain why BB excludes .git folders.

You are using it to mean "maintaining full version history", I believe? Another important consideration.

Tempest1981··on Filing the corners off my MacBooks
What tools are needed to redo the anodized color? Is it doable at home?
Tempest1981··on Native Instant Space Switching on macOS
My Cmd-TAB frustration is I'm usually moving the mouse while I press it, causing the mouse to select some unwanted app. It doesn't help that the row of apps forms a solid bar across the center of my display.

Wish I could ignore mouse movement when the app switcher is displayed.

Tempest1981··on Microsoft terminates VeraCrypt account, halting Windows updates
Thanks, the previous title was easy to miss: "Veracrypt project update"
