This has some nice tips, but seems overly complex. Try using the "Unread First" inbox, and simply mark email that you need to take action on as Unread, whether you've replied to it or not.

Cool app Mark, quite handy. Have you thought about making a browser extension version? It would be a quick way to get on more platforms and you can still build in the business model.
