StriverGuy··on The rise of never-ending job interviews
We are looking to solve this over at Chatkick (https://chatkick.com) if anyone is interested in working on this problem.
StriverGuy··on Cuomo Aides Spent Months Hiding Nursing Home Death Toll
For some reason no one wants to talk about urban density. Comparing populations is not apples to apples.

New York was also the first hit in the world and most medical treatment/handling wasnt really understood when NY got hit with the brunt of the virus in March 2020.

StriverGuy··on Robinhood now has a 1-Star rating on the Google Play Store
This is a bit of a dense question - but being shut out of trading a stock doesn't physically threaten someones life. So not exactly analogous to the twitter situation you are clearly alluding to.
StriverGuy··on Ask HN: What are you working on?
Trying really hard to scale a newsletter/resource/community site in the startup space with a former colleague of mine. Some of you may have seen it around here already: https://boringstartupstuff.com.
StriverGuy··on Airbnb to Block and Cancel D.C. Reservations During Inauguration
Attempting to topple the legitimately elected US president comes with consequences. No matter the reasoning. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Edit: It is interesting to see my comment downvoted. Taking part in such acts and not expecting consequences is naive at best.

StriverGuy··on Boring Startup Stuff
OP here - thanks for the suggestions. Definitely plan to put info about the writers behind this. We just started in early September so initially we were hesitant but I think its important to show credibility.

The archive is available (https://boringstartupstuff.com/newsletter) and can actually be found in a link on the landing page :)

And agreed, boring startup stuff isn't really boring at all. It's what makes the early days of a company an interesting challenge.

StriverGuy··on New ‘Meow’ attack has deleted almost 4k unsecured databases
If you have ever used Mongo Atlas, you would understand why people use mongo. The administration ease that the platform provides is unmatched by any other DBaaS I am aware of.
StriverGuy··on Joe Rogan Is the New Mainstream Media
Considering Joe has millions of listeners I would say he is mainstream, but then again I am probably talking to a wall by making this comment.
StriverGuy··on Ask HN: How does one improve their product thinking skills?
Talk to people about products they use and the processes they have around those products. Honestly, human interaction is the only way to fundamentally improve product development processes.
StriverGuy··on Cloudflare CEO pledges to double 2020 internship class
good product, growing market, good stewardship, growing revenue, high margin...
StriverGuy··on Ask HN: What problem would you pay someone to solve for you?
Hire a consulting team. They will hold your hand through the whole process and save you buttloads of time.

The whole process is not cheap and can run from 20k to 100k+ depending on your org size.

StriverGuy··on Today’s Top Tech Skills
Regarding your 2nd point: commercial grade NoSQL db's can do all of these things now. I think the notion that they cannot is from the v1-2 era of Mongo about 7 years ago. You should read the Dynamo white paper and subsequent documentation on write consistency, transactions etc. and also look at the feature set available on Mongo V4.2.
StriverGuy··on Ask HN: Which stack will get my MVP API off the ground fastest?
This is the only correct answer.
StriverGuy··on The Rich Do Pay Higher Taxes Than You
What evidence do you have to support that the article was false?

Additionally, what in the world does it have to do with the OP?

Bloomberg is a relatively moderate news source with a strong track record.

StriverGuy··on At Booming Toptal, No Stock for Employees or Investors
Certain business models require high amounts of capital in order to create leverage/growth. Think of Uber, WeWork etc. All the founders made out fabulously rich due to the ability to leverage growth on the back of VC money. Organically growing, profitable business may never need to take outside money. It really comes down to the market and growth strategy.
StriverGuy··on Ask HN: Why are non-technical managers paid more than engineers?
I am not implying no technical skills are necessary to manage. The point is that hyper-technical skills in very specific niches seem to negatively correlate with people skills required to manage well.

Of course knowing enough about the product and space is important to make correct technical decisions as a manager. That goes without saying. The point is rather that the goal of a technical manager is not to come up with all of the answers, but put the right heads together to answer tough questions.

StriverGuy··on Nearly all mass shooters have four things in common

StriverGuy··on Ask HN: Why are non-technical managers paid more than engineers?
Number 2 is so hard for a lot of engineers to grasp. Technical knowledge does not translate to strong management skills. In fact, I would say at a certain point deep technical expertise becomes a hinderance on your ability to manage people.
StriverGuy··on Ask HN: Can you build an MVP in one week?
Maybe you are over-engineering for an MVP?

StriverGuy··on Ask HN: Should I find a job or try to build a profitable project?
This completely ignores the true value of time. I would give up plenty of my own money for more time.

This is what drives people eventually hiring employees for their ventures and should not be undersold as a reasonable way to think about things.

Number 8 is a fantastic idea -- as a resident of nyc I would happily pay for this. Especially if you created family oriented packages/pricing.
