Wikimedia is hiring a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to support and maintain the data and statistics infrastructure that powers a big part of decision making in the Foundation and in the Wiki community.

Stately··on Show HN: Interactive Maps for IoT Search Engine Shodan
Very cool. But you're using basemaps that require attribution[0], which you're very conveniently covering with the Shodan Maps logo.

Stately··on French Uber protests block airports
Because that's worked out sooooo well for taxi drivers in the rest of European cities...
Stately··on To Lose Weight, Eating Less Is Far More Important Than Exercising More
Have you tried that though? I'd say the reason why people associate bacon with being fat is because people that overeat bacon tend to overeat junk food, sugary snacks, industrial bakery and drink litres of sodas. Truth is though, that over the last few years more and more studies are disproving[0] the connection of saturated fat with obesity and heart disease.

Stately··on Why We Are No Longer Developing for the iPad
I developed on Android with IntellIJ IDEA and an awesome Surface Pro 2 for almost a year, until a move to a new job made me switch to a MacBook Air. Amazing, amazing little thing.
Stately··on Ask HN: What is wrong with me?
This is a perfect answer. Actionable, kind and empathetic. Thank you, as someone who has struggled with this too.
Stately··on Show HN: Timeline.com
This is beautiful. It really shows that a lot of thought has been put into it. Have you guys thought about using CartoDB's Oddysey.js[0] to integrate maps in your timelines? It seems both projects are very related to each other.

(Full disclosure, I'm a CartoDB employee, although not involved in Oddysey's development)

Stately··on Show HN: App for Falling in Love
Any chance this is open-source? I'd love to translate it to Spanish, at a request of my non-English speaking friend.
Stately··on Farm 432
Yeah, no: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism_by_country#India

31% isn't an overwhelming majority. Plus you're saying that India should be the standard for scarcity of vegetables, which it clearly isn't.

Stately··on Ask HN: What is the most important lesson you learned this year?
I'm too young/immature/irresponsible to be productive working remotely. And I feel too isolated/lonely to enjoy the freedom it provides. Turns out it wasn't the office environment what I hated from my job a year and a half ago, it was the toxic office environment. Just started a new job in an awesome team and it's like being born again.
Stately··on Uber banned from operating in Indian capital after rape accusation
That ranking is meaningless, since what rape actually constitutes varies wildly depending on the country, not to mention the probability of a victim to report it or of the authorities to take it seriously. I suspect that is the reason why Sweden is third in case rate per capita. I also suspect that the reason why India's might be lower is that cases tend to stay within the secrecy of the family, the village, or the company.

Also "Indians are more outraged towards rape than Americans & British" is a super bold claim I'd love to see proof of.

Stately··on Gravitricity
I'm far from being even slightly knowledgeable in this topic, but would it be possible to build this in very deep waters? Like a massive column containing a tunnel? Seems cheaper than digging a 1km hole.
Stately··on Show HN: Sail boat simulation – try to sail into the wind
More info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_of_sail#Close_hauled

Thanks for making this. As a teenager I used to sail competitively and this brings good memories. Sailing close hauled under decent wind was incredibly fun.

Stately··on Dutch Girl Fakes a Trip to South East Asia
My guess is that there was no formal research process involved at all. It was probably a project for an arts or design course, where a lot of times the more "disruptive" an idea looks, the more encouraged the student is to proceed with it.

That reminds me of a BBC documentary called "But is it art?", where a Goldsmiths, University of London art student, for her final project, went to several art exhibitions, stole objects on display, swallowed them, and then showed them as her art after defecating them.

Source: I'm a Goldsmiths alumnus.

Stately··on Microsoft on GitHub
Yeah because everybody knows that if Microsoft lacks something is resources to build a static landing page.
Stately··on 243 Game – inspired by 2048
It seems to be significantly easier to beat than 2048, but at the same time it's a bit challenging to get your head around matching three tiles instead of two. Good stuff.

BTW, change the favicon?

Stately··on Uber protest gridlocks London
Why can't we just do like they do in America? Uber's been there for a while now and it works incredibly well. Apparently Uber cabs are safer than minicabs:

Stately··on Woman’s cancer killed by measles virus in trial
Don't take it as a very profound observation. I just meant that a cure for cancer from a genetically-engineered variant of the measles virus is the way that all the population in the US ends up turned into zombies in that movie.
Stately··on Woman’s cancer killed by measles virus in trial
This is too similar to how I Am Legend begins.

Stately··on Here's the Most Idiotic and Brilliant App Ever
If the app is indeed able to have a fairly accurate height value, it just needs the turning point height in order to calculate speed, duration of fall, and the (more or lees) exact time of impact. So it could transmit the value whenever it detects that the phone has stopped moving upwards.
Stately··on Observations from a Tipless Restaurant
Also, in the UK it's nothing like the restaurant in the article. I have the rule of asking, if there is a service charge, who gets the money from it, and so far in 100% of the cases, the money goes to management, which is ridiculous.
Stately··on Google Latitude will be retired
According to the FAQ, the location history will not be retired, which is really the only functionality of latitude that I use/have seen others use.
