Specstacular··on The very quotable CK Prahalad on entrepreneurship, strategy research etc
I love this quote onn the nature of entrepreneurship:

"Having aspirations greater than your resources. That’s universal. Whether you’re Sam Walton or Narayana Murthy [founder of Infosys Technologies Ltd.], if your aspirations are not greater than your resources, you’re not an entrepreneur. For large companies to be entrepreneurial, they have to create aspirations greater than their resources. You can call it 'strategy as stretch' or 'strategic intent'. "

Specstacular··on Could coffee be an Australian entrepreneurial success story?
Oh, that does look tasty...
Specstacular··on Could coffee be an Australian entrepreneurial success story?
But Italian migrants did continue to go to US right through to the late 60s (indeed most Aussie Italian families I know have a tale of a great uncle/aunt in Canada and a couple more somewhere on East coast of US or in Chicago)... I'm intrigued by the theory though...
Specstacular··on Who'll follow The Gap to Australia?
And it seems Zara is definitely on their way...see http://www.insideretailing.com.au/Latest/tabid/53/ID/8635/Za...
Specstacular··on Startups - Is all press good press?
Given blog posts are pretty painless to correct (unlike hardcopy news stories which may require an embarassing retraction), I would think a very friendly request to "correct an unfortunate misunderstanding" would be worthwhile...
Specstacular··on Entrepreneurship from the beachside
No, there is commentary and analysis beyond the content of the original interview (which is linked from the blog post also)...
Specstacular··on ITunes for Research Papers
Wow, that could be sensational... will play with it this weekend...
Specstacular··on Mass litigation as a revenue stream
I presume you mean litigation... ligation has a variety of meanings, none of which typically involve lawsuits...
Specstacular··on Why The Gap will fail in Australia
It'll go the way of Starbucks in Australia within 3 years... i.e. down. There is simply nothing distinctive about their offerings within a mature market
Specstacular··on Ben Folds Chatroulette Piano Ode to Merton
I've seen Folds live about 10 times over the past decade. He's always had crazy improv skills. It's great to see him getting coverage and recognition of this beyond his rabid but small fan-base...
Specstacular··on Powerpoint has been banned from Embedded conference.
link would be even better without clickthru front page...
Specstacular··on More on making money in the umbrella business
The earlier parts of this interview are here:

Specstacular··on Is Australia set for a US retailer invasion?
The fashion chains do face one pretty nasty issue - different seasons... do they offer Aussies 6 month old styles each spring/summer? ... or do they use Australia as the testing ground for the US.

That issue is what has prevented H&M, Zara, Top Shop and many, many other European brands fast fashion chains from heading to Australia (one of very few Southern Hemisphere markets).

Specstacular··on Rage Against the Machine? Raging within the machine will do for now
I wish it were "Take the Skinheads Bolwing" getting all this 'underground' support instead...
Specstacular··on Amazon's core competency? Pricing.
To demonstrate that spot pricing is a CORE competency you would need to show that it is applied ACROSS their businesses. Where's the evidence they use it much in books sales, music etc?
Specstacular··on Has Amazon caught the forward integration bug?
And multiple threads on here already... a couple of days ago...
Specstacular··on Has Amazon caught the forward integration bug?
Of course, there is a big denial from Amazon about all this.
Specstacular··on Amazon to open brick-and-mortar retail shops in Britain?
Thanks rg. That's very insightful info.
Specstacular··on Google mails 2D barcodes to local businesses
It remains unclear if businesses will be that enamoured with giving Google further control of their "message" at this point of engagement.

Would I rather a potential customer typed in my URL and got my "story" or would I let them scan a QRcode that takes them to Google and its links to reviews, competitors etc?

Might businesses also have legitmiate concerns that this is Google getting even more information about the customers (and that this might become yet another Google revenue stream down the track)?

Specstacular··on Amazon to open brick-and-mortar retail shops in Britain?
I'm curious as to why the might be testing this new channel in the UK rather than the US. Does anyone have any sense of the market share of Amazon in Britain?
Specstacular··on Why don’t more producers sell on-line?
Here's eome more on this topic:

Specstacular··on Startup School Final Speaker List
Weirdly I was just reading about an Australian version of this concept:

Specstacular··on Australia looking to censor iPhone apps
Another stumbling block to innovation and engagement in Aussie Software development and 'new media' market. Typical!
Specstacular··on Music Industry Wants Apple To Pay For 30-Second Song Previews
This does inside seem strange. There are several different uses of music at play. Incidental music within film, ads etc needs to be paid for as one artist is benefiting from the work of another. Trying to get end users to pay for this is clunky and perverse, however. Surely the onus rests with the appropriator (i.e. the film maker).

30 sec song previews are a completely different beast. They are ads for the music. Why ask Apple or others to pay for promoting your own product??

Specstacular··on Rethinking long tail theory
Interesting take on netflix, amazon etc... seems to quash considerable element of Chris Anderson's arguments with real data...

Will be interested to see who win's netflix's competition too...

Specstacular··on [dead]
Do we know how much it costs to play? If its only a few cents (or the equivalent thereof) the returns are considerably better than if these tickets are a $1 or more...
Specstacular··on Why doesn't iTunes have a long tail?
Interesting points. I expect iTunes is not to fault here at all. The fault would lie with record labels being too lazy to look at the back catalogue (beyond the million-sellers).
