Music Industry Wants Apple To Pay For 30-Second Song Previews

Yet another instance where the music industry is completely off their rocker. How do they think their product gets sold? If someone suggests a band to me, I want to hear them first, I am not just going to pop onto itunes and buy their album.

If the music industry makes Apple pay for the song previews they either won't exist, or they Apple will pass along that cost to me.

This does inside seem strange. There are several different uses of music at play. Incidental music within film, ads etc needs to be paid for as one artist is benefiting from the work of another. Trying to get end users to pay for this is clunky and perverse, however. Surely the onus rests with the appropriator (i.e. the film maker).

30 sec song previews are a completely different beast. They are ads for the music. Why ask Apple or others to pay for promoting your own product??
